[Bug 2062128] [NEW] Booting with nvidia proprietary drivers 550.67 results in gdm3 being displayed on X11 rather than Wayland
Public bug reported: I am testing Ubuntu 24.04 beta and using the proprietary NVIDIA drivers (550.67). Prior to installing the drivers packages (using nouveau), the system would load gdm3 in Wayland. After installer the drivers package, the system would load gdm3 in X11. This appears to be caused by the configuration file at /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules However, according to the comments in the rules file, it should prefer Wayland: # Disable wayland when nvidia modeset is disabled or when drivers are a lower # version than 470, # For versions above 470 but lower than 510 prefer Xorg, # Above 510, prefer Wayland. I am able to work around this by making a system override on the file, in /etc/udev/rules.d: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Apr 18 00:34 61-gdm.rules -> /dev/null With this in place, when booting, gdm3 will be loaded with Wayland. ** Affects: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062128 Title: Booting with nvidia proprietary drivers 550.67 results in gdm3 being displayed on X11 rather than Wayland To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/2062128/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Let me know how I can collect and post data after letting it leak for a while and I will do so when I wake up. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2006675 Title: Memory leak when hdmi switcher is not sending data/not outputting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons/+bug/2006675/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 2006675] [NEW] Memory leak when hdmi switcher is not sending data/not outputting
Public bug reported: Main problem: Gnome-shell has a memory leak when my hdmi switcher is on a channel that is currently not inputting hdmi (i.e. desktop on hdmi 2 but hdmi 3 is selected with nothing inserted). This memory leak does not happen if signal is being sent through the hdmi switcher either from the desktop itself or from some other device. [Bug 1998529] [NEW] Uninstalling extensions dereferences symlinks, risking data loss
Public bug reported: Uninstalling a gnome-shell extension removes its folder in ".local/share/gnome-shell/extensions", recursively as it should, but dereferencing symlinks!! Here is what happens and how to reproduce: Someone (me) installs an extension to try it out. While tweaking with its configuration, to try to customize it, I put a symlink within its extensions directory, pointing to somewhere else in my home folder. For example, in my case, a symlink to "~/Pictures/Icons", to be able to set it up with one of many custom icons I've created. Uninstall the extension later as it's not to my liking, extensions folder is gone, as well as my ~/Pictures/Icons folder's contents in my home directory. This could have been a lot worse, if the symlink was pointing higher up, since its doing a recursive delete. In this case, extension was installed as well as removed from the gnome- extensions website. Usually I install from website, but uninstall from extensions manager. Do not know if it happens with extensions manager as well. Please fix this, because I was frankly shocked that this happened, and could lead to very bad things (I've never seen a rm -rf follow symlinks, and wouldn't even want to know what flag would do that and why you would want that). What would expect to happen: A simple rm -rf recursive, non- dereferencing removal of extensions directory. What happened instead: A recursive removal, dereferencing symlinks, which can lead anywhere, and be very dangerous. Symlinks may have been placed in there if someone was working on or tweaking an extension. [Bug 1754125] Re: Rhythmbox stays running in the background after quit
This is a confusing bug. It appears that the app has quit, but music still plays & it is not obvious how to do anything about it. I have learned now that you can right click the icon IF you have it in the dock, but why does the icon not show the app running? - without a dot under the icon it looks like the app has correctly quit, but it has not. [Bug 1830513] [NEW] Display scaling inconsistencies while using Wayland
Public bug reported: I have a 2880x1620 onboard display and a 1080p external display that I use for my computer. As far as I can tell xorg does not allow for different scaling options for two separate displays. Based on https://askubuntu.com/questions/1028622/different-display-scale- settings-18-04 I logged in with Wayland and thought I had achieved the effect I wanted. However, after I started using my computer, I realized that some applications were still scaled based on the display I set to be primary. I have my 1080p display set as primary. Firefox, for example, looks just fine on my primary, but when I move it to the higher-DPI display, it does not look correct. [Bug 1703068] [NEW] Badly broken rendering of text views
Public bug reported: Applications utilizing gtk3 text views display terrible rendering artifacts on my system. A portion of the canvas immediately below the drawn text view gets redrawn (or perhaps more accurately *not* redrawn), and then text gets drawn over the top. Subsequent updates to the text view will just draw on top of the existing text. This is visible in (among other things) gtk3-demo (from gtk-3-examples), gnome-calculator, EiskaltDC++ Gtk3. A screenshot comparing gtk3-demo and gtk-demo (via gtk2.0-examples) is attached. It's a distinct possibility that the real issue is in the video driver or compiz or something, but this was my best guess for a starting point, since I've isolated the issue to [seemingly] gtk3 text views (and possibly also transparency overlay? the top right and bottom left of Overlay -> Decorative Overlay exhibits the problem, along with Transparency also in the Overlay section of gtk3-demo). Kernel: 4.10.0-26-generic xorg-server 2:1.19.3-1ubuntu1 OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ivybridge Desktop OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 17.0.3 Although I haven't tried a fresh install, I have confirmed the behavior persists in a guest session. The issue had briefly gone away a month or two ago, but I didn't have time to closely track what changed (presumably: what updates were installed?). [Bug 1698607] [NEW] "Mode" menu is out of place when launched from keyboard shortcut (unity-settings-daemon)
Public bug reported: As similarly reported in Bug #1615408 [1], the "Mode" menu for gnome- calculator appears out of place below the application title bar, however now it only manifests for me when the calculator is launched from the keyboard shortcut. I've seen some circumstances where the calculator is launched with a thick gnome3-style title bar with an integrated mode menu, but under normal circumstances, the calculator has a 'normal' title bar, and has the mode menu in the unity-integrated menu bar. My keyboard has a built-in "calculator" key, but this can be recreated by going to System Settings -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> modify the "Launch calculator" to something else (e.g. ctrl-alt-c). Press the shortcut; unity-settings-daemon spawns gnome-calculator with the improperly located Mode menu. Sebastien, I should point out that I used the standard bug reporting tools to create the original ticket. It is very surprising to me that these do not send you the files you need. I hope you have communicated this deficiency to the team that maintains 'ubuntu-bug' I have run ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_share_apport_apport-gtk.0.crash - however, that file was created on May 12, and the unexpected logout has occured many times since then.
