[Bug 1706542] [NEW] Can only launch Nautilus once in GNOME shell
Public bug reported: Press super, type "nautilus", type enter -> nautilus can be only launched once this way, same with any new pinned dash icon. This is due to having both nautilus.desktop and org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop, despite this one having OnlyShowIn=, GNOME Shell converts nautilus.desktop to org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop, but still think that nautilus.desktop is running (as nautilus desktop background drawing icons instance), hence no dash icon unicity between the already present one and this new one. The older dash icon desktop file was converted as well, but it doesn't match as in memory it's org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop. We end up as well with 2 desktop files with identical names in the dash preference settings. The easy fix without impacting Unity is to: 1. append to "OnlyShowIn=Unity;" in org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop, "GNOME" 2. add "NotShowIn=GNOME;" in nautilus.desktop -> that way, only org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop will be matched by GNOME. There is no transition issue as Unity is matching nautilus to org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop already, so no transition needed. [Bug 1706524] [NEW] Enable switch option to set volume above 100% from media keys and gnome shell UI
Public bug reported: Some devices have very office-oriented hardware and so, low volume power speakers. The normal usage can make the sound unhearable on those configurations. We added in u-c-c an option to switch it above 100%, per max volume capability, and unity was picking up this value in its indicator and u-s-d. We desire thus to bring the same experience in the new ubuntu GNOME Shell session: gnome-control-center have a slider enabling setting the volume above 100%, however, this settings is only available in that panel, and if you use the media key or the GNOME Shell controls, volume is reset at 100% at max. Upstream GNOME doesn't seem to have genuine interests in enabling that feature (see the discussion on the linked bug report). The proposal is thus: - only enabling that feature in the *ubuntu* sessions. Don't let the sound (even if the key was enabled in the ubuntu session) goes above 100% in the gnome sessions to preserve upstream desired experience. - reuse the same gsettings key (as long as it's not upstream) as we used to have. Easy migrations, user's setting preservation and such - add this switch to gnome-control-center - modify GNOME Shell agregate menu (volume settings) to represent the % in the volume slider corresponding to actual setting. We approach this as a distro patch and not an extension. The extension approach was hacky (overriding a callback, copying logic), and may work badly with well-designed other extensions. Hence this untrusive distro-patch. - patch gnome-settings-daemon volume plugin for respecting this settings in the global OSD and react to media keys - add a dependency from the ubuntu-session package on the schema, as reading the schema is conditioned on the session name. ** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #710424 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=710424 ** Also affects: gnome-settings-daemon via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=710424 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Also affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1706524 Title: Enable switch option to set volume above 100% from media keys and gnome shell UI To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1706524/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1503418] Re: [SRU] [REGRESSION] launching byobu from unity uses the terminal icon rather than the application icon
Sorry, Dustin, I have to revert this change right now as all terminal- based application having a correct match pre-xenial is now matched to byobu (like weechat and such). We have a wrapper for this kind of use case that you can use now (it's working for a couple of cycle) due to the gnome-terminal-server change. For instance, I have fr.didrocks.Terminals.weechat.desktop shipping: Exec=gnome-terminal --app-id fr.didrocks.Terminals.weechat -e weechat-curses I guess we can do something similar for byobu. [Bug 1440549] Re: please convert python scripts to python3
The python2 dependency on gconf2 binary package is due to the fact that migrations scripts are using #!/usr/bin/env python, which is what was adviced by the ubuntu python maintainers so that the day default python is changing, we'll get the correct default version. dh_python3 is then, adding this python2 dependency. It means that day python3 is the default, a simple package rebuild will be needed. Considering back this bug as "fix released" as nothing has to be done in gconf itself. ** Changed in: gconf (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gconf in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1440549 Title: please convert python scripts to python3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gconf/+bug/1440549/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1441487] Re: Running any Java program produces messages in the terminal, while rendering many Java applications broken
@Robin: the extra message is annoying indeed (only with openjdk), it's hardcoded in openjdk, writing those env variable on stderr. I agree that some written script can have some output expectation on stderr (even if I don't think it's the best and most reliable way of handling output from a script). I think this part will be redirected in another bug report (even if we disable jayatana, to keep a track on it and have that noise turned off on openjdk). I was wondering if the crash that people here were seeing were due to openjdk 8 instead of 7. I didn't get any crash with it though with jayatana installed, (I checked that /usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk- amd64/bin/java was executed) when starting android studio on my wily machine which was pointed as one of the crashy program. The menu is then correctly exported. Can somebody give a simple (with a program that is in ubuntu repository) step by step reproducer so that we all start from the same bases? That would probably help danjaredg to have a better start. ** Also affects: jayatana (Ubuntu Vivid) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: jayatana (Ubuntu Vivid) Importance: Undecided => Critical -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to jayatana in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1441487 Title: Running any Java program produces messages in the terminal, while rendering many Java applications broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1441487/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1488795] [NEW] Still getting cached last location even if the permission is denied in system settings after the application started
Public bug reported: With OTA5. Note that I don't know if the caching is done in location- service or is due to PositionSource Qt components. 1. Starts an application with location capability, accept the location permission - You have some console.log() callback on position changed 2. Without closing the app, go to system settings and disable location permission for that app 3. Put back your application in focus - You will still see regular (at updateInterval refresh) console.log() callback onPositionChanged, firing the same QGeoCoordinate than the last known one. I guess it should send QGeoCoordinate(nan, nan, nan) (and should set the Error parameter) as when we can't theorically get the current position anymore. snippet: import QtPositioning 5.2 import QtLocation 5.3 PositionSource { active: true updateInterval: 12 // 2 mins onPositionChanged: { console.log(coordinates + positionSource.position.coordinate); } } ** Affects: location-service (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: devexp -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to location-service in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1488795 Title: Still getting cached last location even if the permission is denied in system settings after the application started To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/location-service/+bug/1488795/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1488811] [NEW] No error set on PositionSource when couldn't fetch location
Public bug reported: PositionSource, when used on the phone (OTA5), didn't set the right sourceError on its object. run the snippet below, deny location permission on that application 1. see that onPositionChanged event is fired, with QGeoCoordinate(nan, nan, nan) for positionSource.position.coordinate. However, if you read the documentation: However, whenever a positionChanged signal has been received, at least position::coordinate::latitude, position::coordinate::longitude, and position::timestamp can be assumed to be valid. So, this forces the developer to add an extra positionSource.position.coordinate.isValid check. The event shouldn't be fired to respect the documentation 2. sourceError is always PositionSource.NoError (as if the location was permitted). It should rather be, from the documentation PositionSource.AccessError. -- snippet: import QtPositioning 5.2 import QtLocation 5.3 PositionSource { id: pos active: true updateInterval: 12 // 2 mins onPositionChanged: { console.log(error value: + pos.sourceError) console.log(coordinates + positionSource.position.coordinate); } } ** Affects: location-service (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: devexp -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to location-service in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1488811 Title: No error set on PositionSource when couldn't fetch location To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/location-service/+bug/1488811/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1488801] [NEW] PositionSource onPositionChanged event is kept being fired every 12 seconds, not respecting updateInterval (phone only)

[Bug 1439301] [NEW] one autopkgtest failure since 219-5ubuntu1
Public bug reported: One autopkgtest fails since 219-5ubuntu1. This one checks that plymouth is started around the same time than fsckd, and that fsckd/fsck doesn't fail if plymouth crashes. The issue comes from debian/patches/v219-stable, which is a backport of http://cgit.freedesktop.org/systemd/systemd-stable/log/?h=v219-stable branch (until 16 march). The culpurit commit is http://cgit.freedesktop.org/systemd/systemd- stable/commit/?h=v219-stableid=b238b0eaf71449e128480bb5a5875a4b51cafd6f. What happens is that: - systemd-hwdb-update.service is After=systemd-remount-fs.service (so once fsck runs) - udev is thus started later on - plymouth-start.service is After=systemd-udevd.service. So fsck runs on root FS before udev is up, and so plymouth, the whole boot sequence is delayed. We have multiple options: - changing the test to get that use case tested in other ways (in ubuntu, plymouth is started from the initramfs) - reintroduce the change if we see that udev being started way later is an issue. Attaching 2 journald boot logs, where we can see the differents time (once with udev/plymouth starting earlier than the other one). ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Tags: systemd-boot ** Attachment added: normal-boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1439301/+attachment/4363164/+files/normal-boot -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1439301 Title: one autopkgtest failure since 219-5ubuntu1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1439301/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1434758] Re: mysqld: errno: 24 - Too many open files
Hey postadelmaga: the file is in /lib/systemd/system/mysqld.service in debian and ubuntu. Those services are shipped in the mysql package, so closing the systemd tag (adding the tag though). I looked at mysql upstream, and their service files doesn't let the limit of files to opened up. Do you have a particular use case with a very large database? I really vary on the idea we disable the limit checks on mysql. Also, did you look at other distros, did they change the limit as well as distro-patch (it doesn't seem for me)? Note that the java openjdk dependency has been stripped out in a similar way that we did with gtk and qt appmenu support to not bring the toolkit if no application is installed. Maintenance: Simple binding (low). As been tested for years by some contributors and months by the desktop team. ** Affects: jayatana (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to jayatana in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1410106 Title: [MIR] java appmenu integration for applications using swing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jayatana/+bug/1410106/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1401984] Re: non persistent logging after cleaning log files on disk
Actually, this is not a systemd behavior but seems to be a syslog one. 1. rm /var/log/syslog 2. reboot - no log (under systemd or upstart) 3. touch /var/log/syslog 4. chmod syslog:adm /var/log/syslog 5. reboot - logs availables The cause is that /var/log is 755 and root:syslog (I wonder why it's in syslog group as it's not 775?), and so can't recreate the file. If I chmod syslog, indeed, /var/log/syslog is created, but with other rights, being syslog:syslog instead of syslog:adm. So, it worths more discussion (retargetting to syslog), pinging Martin on this. ** Package changed: systemd (Ubuntu) = rsyslog (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1401984 Title: non persistent logging after cleaning log files on disk To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1401984/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
