I mean; does 'top' report constant CPU without moving the mouse, or was that only with gnome-system-monitor? (bug 1773502) -- top reports constant CPU without moving mouse ... and it increases to a higher value on Mouse / touchpad activity this is even without Gnome-system monitor. Hello Daniel, Here are the logs. The top output is in gnome-shell file. The Load goes up during mouse movement .. No lock screen on this system !! The behaviour is erratic, after fresh boot the load is very high initially and GUI is very sluggish. it becomes usable after ~ 2 min. The load jumps up and stays up randomly. Just FYI, i was working on a java file in gedit and i tried to disable plugin and gedit crashed but then i closed that file first and then closed gedit. i opened gedit again without anyfile open and i tried to disable this Zeitgeist plugin and it worked. Initially i thought it's a Nautilus own issue, when i used dolphin same thing is happening. I was copying a .mkv file (6GB) in size (though this problem is occurring for all file sizes) to external harddisk whose file system is NTFS. Then i tried copying within same ext4 file system i.e from downloads folder to Document folder, the CPU usage shot up again! no... video plays flawlessly I tried that too... like I said, it happens only after I play an audio and in totem when the visualisation is disabled. I said this too: Restarting totem with a video will play the video flawlessly. My driver is i845 Nope, no compiz here. All video files (the ones I've used are ogv, avi and mpeg ones). and the problem arises only when the visualisation is disabled.
