[Bug 1857893] [NEW] Evolution looping using 100% cpu

2019-12-30 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

Possibly one bug, possibly two. At any rate there are two symptoms.

1. Evolution is constantly hogging the whole of one CPU. See attached
screenshot.

2. Evolution is stuck opening a folder. If I try to cancel the open it
just gets stuck in the close. It has been like this for a couple of
weeks now. See attached screenshot.

Neither coondition is cleared by killing and restarting the process.

[Bug 1809443] [NEW] Lock-screen does not enable one to switch keyboard layouts

2018-12-21 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

First, I am not quite sure where the problem lies: in the power manager,
gnome-screensaver or xfce-screensaver.

I use keyboard layouts in more than one alphabet. If the screen-lock
happens when I am using a non-latin alphabet the unlock screen gives me
no way of switching keyboard layouts. I have to use a tty login to kill
the session, or reboot.

Yes, as I discovered later there is a problem in a bad interaction
between lightdm and xscreensaver.

I removed lightlocker a long time back and replaced it with
xscreensaver because lightlocker caused too many problems (don't now
remember what). Replacing lightdm with gdm has eliminated the latest
problem I was having with secondary logins.

So in summary: lightdm+(lightlocker|xscreensaver) - bad;
gdm+xscreensaver - good,  or at least fewer problems.

2018-06-29 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

Whenever I delete a message or move it to a different folder I get the
popup message:

[Bug 1748748] Re: Evolutiion fails to start. Cannot connect /tmp/dbus-*

2018-02-11 Thread Raphael Mankin
Yet another follow-up:

I did a 'pkill -9 evolution' after which I could start evolution.

After a logout/login evolution would not start. After a pkill it did.
Removing the evolution background servers from the session startup cleared the
problem.

I could then also start evolution automatically at session startup.

[Bug 1660289] [NEW] On waking from sleep laptop does not re-connect to wifi

2017-01-30 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

After waking from a suspend my laptop (Lenovo X1 Carbon) does not always
re-connect to the wifi network. It seems to be consistent in which
networks (access points) it will connect to and which it won't.

I cannot force it to reconnect using the applet to 'connect to hidden
network'. It says that the connection is invalid, and the 'connect'
button is greyed out.

Logout/login does not clear the condition.

After a reboot the machine connects with no problems.

There is a similar problem with *some* new wifi networks in that after
configuring the new connection I have to reboot in order to use it.

[Bug 1569223] [NEW] Evolution hangs or crashes when deleting an LDAP email address

2016-04-12 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

A contact has changed his email address. I added the new address and
then tried to delete the old one. Evolution hung, several times. On
restarting evolution I found that the new address had been inserted, but
that the old one had not been deleted.

After a while I tried again and this time I got crashes rather than
hangs, but still no deletion.

This is using an LDAP address book.

Running evolution in foreground gives:

[Bug 1532138] [NEW] Evolution cannot have two contacts with same email address

2016-01-08 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

If I have to contacts with the same email address evolution crashes when
I add the second one.

Specifically: LDAP address book

The situation is that these are business contacts where a manager uses
his assistant's email address and does not have one of his own. I wish
to have the same email address recorded for both people.

[Bug 1488076] [NEW] Copying/moving an entry from local to ldap addressbook fails

2015-08-24 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

When I try to move or copy an addressbook entry from a local to an LDAP
addressbok I get an 'object class violation' error.

I quite understand why this happens; I suppose that the copy/move has to
be done field by field and not as an object. It means that I have to
manually copy each and every field from the old objects into new ones.

I am trying to edit a contact's surname. Specifically, I am changing it

[Bug 886386] Re: evolution connection calendar missing

2014-07-11 Thread Raphael Mankin
I have two machines running 12.04 with Evolution 3.2.3, the problem
appears on the 32-bit machine but not on the 64-bit one.

Adding the suggested text to the gconf key on the 32-bit m/c enables me
to create the calendar, but once created it does not work. I can see the
calendar with webcal but not update it. With caldav I cannot see it at
all.

The 64-bit machine has no problems.

[Bug 886386] Re: evolution connection calendar missing

2014-07-11 Thread Raphael Mankin
A correction to my previous comment:

On the 32-bit machine I can save caldav entries but not see them. They
do however show up on the webcal view of the same calendar.

I can also see the new entries on my 64-bit machine.

The server is running radicale.

[Bug 1010349] Re: Evolution address book inaccessible without killing one time e-addressbook-factory

2014-07-02 Thread Raphael Mankin
I have two machines both running 12.04 with Evolution 3.2.3. One has
this bug the other does not.

I start my sessions without evolution and then start it by hand later.
On the 'bad' machine I have found no way of starting gnome without e
-addressbook-factory running.. Again, the 'good' machine can do this.

[Bug 1298544] Re: LDAP addressbook has flaky authentication/authorization.

2014-04-01 Thread Raphael Mankin
I suspect that this is a duplicate of 1010349 and 1292166

I also suspect that the problem is that evolution is starting before the
keyring is unlocked. When the keyring is unlocked e-addressbook-server
does not recover its connection. Killing and restarting therefore clears
the problem.

[Bug 1298544] [NEW] LDAP addressbook has flaky authentication/authorization.

2014-03-27 Thread Raphael Mankin
Public bug reported:

I am connecting to ldap addressbooks on port 389, with no encryption.

The addressbooks work OK on my desktop at work.

From my laptop at home using wifi I keep getting error 0x32 -
insufficient access. Logout/login does not cure the problem. Reboot
does not clear the problem. I can run ldapsearch with no problems.

[Bug 1298544] Re: LDAP addressbook has flaky authentication/authorization.

2014-03-27 Thread Raphael Mankin
I have managed to make it work by killing e-addressbook-server and all
the other evolution processes, deleting the ldap password from my
keyring and starting again. It is conceivable that the keyring became
corruupt, but the password has not changed in yonks, so something is
rotten somewhere.

[Bug 775345] Re: USB headset not selectable in Output tab of Sound Preferences

I *think* I can make it work by ensuring that the headset is unplugged
when I login and then plugging it in later. This trick works at least
some of the time.

[Bug 775345] Re: USB headset not selectable in Output tab of Sound Preferences

2014-03-17 Thread Raphael Mankin
I had this on a previous kernel, then it went away and now it has come back.
3.2.0-60-generic-pae #91-Ubuntu SMP .
Ubuntu 12.04 on a Lenovo T61P.

In 'sound settings' the headset shows in the 'hardware' tab, but not in
'input' or 'output'.

In pavucontrol it shows in the input devices, but not in output.
Previously, tinkering in pavucontrol made it come back. Not this time.
