[Bug 1037196] [NEW] Set network proxy to none, yet http_proxy env var is still set in bash after new login
Public bug reported: I configured a proxy using gnome-control-center (launched via the proxy config in chromium). I then changed it to none. After several restarts, the http_proxy environment variable is _still_ set to what I'd set it to. I had to add lines to my .bashrc to unset it. In gconf, it appears that the http_proxy values are blank. I don't see it stashed elsewhere in any of the environment related files, but it must still be somewhere. [Bug 917152] [NEW] nautilus has to build search index for the first search, doesn't warn user what's happening
Public bug reported: My downloads directory has 1177 files in it. With nautilus opened on Downloads, I press ctrl F, and type any word. Initial search takes 10+ seconds (presumably to build the index?) Subsequent searches are fast enough to be useful. The initial time is a problem, because nautilus does not report to the user what it's doing. Most non technical users will give up, and close the window, believing that nautilus search is slow, and probably won't reuse search. Multiple approaches to fixing this could be taken; e.g. background build of indices, or just better user messaging (Because this is the first time you've used search, we need to create an index. Your future searches will be fast.) [Bug 917152] Re: nautilus has to build search index for the first search, doesn't warn user what's happening
Sorry, I really think this is a bug. Searching 1177 titles should take less than 1 second, even reading them off disk. It's not wishlist to say that 10+ seconds is too slow. ls can read the directory contents in 0.033s. If you're telling me that it waits to display items until it has also scanned all of their contents, then that's also a bug. It should display results as it finds them, and any logical implementation of this would display title results first. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/917152 Title: nautilus has to build search index for the first search, doesn't warn user what's happening To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/917152/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 192508] Re: mouse keys turns on randomly
Ah, a comment in that thread is the key to this, I think - shift numlock is the hotkey that turns the feature on and off. I bet that I've been hitting that shortcut accidentally. Since it's such a destructive shortcut (i.e. it wrecks the number pad's function) could this bug be resolved by popping up an obvious-but-automatically-disappearing alert when the shortcut is selected? And, could we have an option in the settings dialog for mousekeys to permanently disable the shortcut? Sorry, but you're wrong. This is a bug in the UI design. It's a disk usage analyzer. If I scan home, baobob should be able to indicate to me that there are large files in my home directory taking up space. I'm not asking you to show me the files directly - just make the UI clearer so that you can see that there is file usage IN home. You should treat the root of the tree differently from sub-directories, since otherwise you'll never be able to make it clear that you're counting it. 100% is useless and duplicative information - you should change that to show the actual *contents* of the home directory. Hopefully you're on a later RC than I am. -- GIMP can't open JPEG for editing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gimp in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 152331] Re: GIMP can't open JPEG for editing
Understood that it's not a valid jpeg, but I don't think completely crapping out is the right response from Gimp. Ideally it would say this does not look like a valid JPEG, but here it is anyway. The KDE apps (gwenview, konqueror, etc) all open it silently, which is perhaps correct given their use cases. It was sourced from a google image search, and saved by firefox. The file name is jpg online. (If you search images.google.com for rubber chicken you should find it and be able to reproduce the issue.) -- GIMP can't open JPEG for editing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152331 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gimp in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 114341] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory
Yes, this is easily reproducible. 1) Copy a DVD ISO image to your home folder. Name it .bigfile [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cd ~ [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -al .bigfile -rw-r--r-- 1 reuben reuben 3740401664 2007-05-18 08:02 .bigfile 2) Run disk analyzer 3) Where is it? -- Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/114341 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-utils in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 114341] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory
I understand, but the output does not indicate that the used space is directly *in* the home folder. It lists /home/reuben as being 100%, and then the summation underneath (the subdirs) adds up to only, say, 50%. It is not clear that the home directory itself has files that are taking up the space. Perhaps the fix would be to add an item for files within this folder 50% to the listing. The graphic is also inaccurate - it does not display these files.
Respectfully, I disagree with it being obvious. I'm an experienced user, and I did not find the output at all obvious. The problem is that the meaning of the home folder, i.e. the folder at the top of the listing, is overloaded. It contains a sum of ALL of the sub folders, plus a phantom group of files which are not displayed anywhere in the UI. Try the above steps on some newbie users, and I bet they will be confused (i.e. unable to quickly locate the large file in the home dir). I see what you mean about the graphic (the folder itself being in the center), but again when you mouse over you get the sum, not the specific size. I.e. when I mouse over, I get 15.8GB, which is [files not displayed anywhere].size + [subfolders].size. -- Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/114341 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-utils in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 114341] Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory
You have been subscribed to a public bug: My home directory was full but I didn't know why. I ran disk usage analyzer (baobob). The %s of all listed items added up to about 8%. The biggest listed item was a folder named mp3, which was about 2.5GB. I dug around using the CLI, and found an 11GB .xsession-errors file in my home directory. This was not picked up by the disk analyzer. ** Affects: gnome-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/114341 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
