[Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste
Andrei (andrei-doom) on 2015-09-07: #320 Exactly. This is the point I'm always trying to make when talking to Linux or Ubuntu fanboys. To them it's like the holy grail in operating systems, but come on... if you can't even implement a proper clipboard. This problem has always existed. Even years before Ubuntu existed this bug already existed. Linux has never had a proper clipboard and they just refuse to fix this. To them it's just the way it was designed and that's what we have to live with. You don't like it? Well, that's your problem, because they don't give a shit. This is just fucking insane! How can these guys even take themselves serious? No wonder they can't get any market share. Who wants to use such crappy, buggy, amateurish piece of useless shit? Come on. A clipboard is one of the core elements of an operating system. This should never fail. It should just work. You write some text in LibreOffice Writer, you copy this text and you immediately close the app (because that's a completely logical thing to do, because you don't need this source app anymore, because you're going to paste your text somewhere else) and then you can't paste it anymore, because there isn't anything to paste. You just copied this piece of text ONE SECOND ago and it's already completely lost, forever! What the fuck?!?!?! Even a child can understand this is absolutely ridiculous and this can never be the way you want copy/paste to work. Still the developers (if you can even call this bunch of useless amateurs "developers") of Linux and Ubuntu and their blinded fanboys don't see it as a problem and refuse to fix it... or do they? Maybe they just don't want to admit their design is flawed and they don't want to admit they're not competent enough to fix this. Anyway, just don't use this useless piece of crap. Just use a proper operating system. Ubuntu and Linux in general suck so hard, even the best porn star would be jealous. Just use Windows or OS X. Don't use Ubuntu! Don't use Linux! It's absolute complete crap! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to a duplicate bug report (36165). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/11334 Title: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/abiword/+bug/11334/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close
Can people please stop complaining about the window controls being on the left side? Windows has them on the right side, but it’s completely illogical to have them on the right side. The GUI of Windows is completely illogical and causes it’s users to get RSI, because of all the mouse movement when working in Windows. To start an application, you’ve got to go to the lower left corner of the screen to click on the Start button. Then you want to do some tasks in this application, so you’ve got to go to the upper left corner to get to the File menu, the Edit menu or the icons on the toolbar. Then you want to close the application and you’ve got to go to the upper right corner to click on the X. Then you want to start another application and you’ve got to go all the way back to the lower left corner. This is completely illogical and causes RSI, because of all the mouse movement. Apple already figured out it’s better to have the window controls on the left, because everything else is on the left (menu bar starts from the left, icons on the tool bar start on the left and tabs on a tab bar start from the left). Gnome already figured out it’s better to have the Applications menu on the top of the screen, because everything else is on the top of the screen (menu bar, tool bar and tab bar are all on the top of the screen, so applications are more quickly accessable when they’re on the top too). Moving the window controls to the left is the best decision Canonical ever made. The applications are on the upper left corner, the menu bars, the tool bars and the tab bars are all on the top of the screen and most of the time only the left part of these bars are filed with menu items, icons and tabs (especially since resolutions of computer screens are getting higher and higher). Most of the clicks are being done in the upper left area of the screen, so it’s completely obvious to have the window controls in this area too. Even before the first screens of this new button layout appeared I already made the change myself. I’m running Ubuntu with the window controls on the left for more than a year now and mouse movement has been reduced. Now everything is just in one place (the upper left area of the screen). Before I moved the window controls to the left side, I was constantly moving my mouse from the left side to the right side of the screen when opening and closing applications. Completely illogical. The left side is definately the right place for window controls. -- [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky
The problem that dnd to a nfs mount doesn't work have to do with the following issue: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475296 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/138486 Because file-roller threats nfs mounts as remote and shouldn't do that because nfs mounts are transparent. [Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky
I build nautilus (2.19.91 on Gutsy x86_64) with the patch and it seems to work. Dragging files from file-roller to my desktop works like a charm, also to other nautilus windows. But it doesn't work while dragging them to a nfs mount or an other remote location (for example ssh). It says Cannot extract archives in a remote folder foldername. [Bug 138486] File-roller is threating a nfs mount like a remote filesystem
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: file-roller When opening files on a nfs mount the files are getting copied to my homedir (~/.fr-[randomhash]). This problem exists since the the ability to open files on gnome-vfs was introduced. It looks like that copying the archive to homedir is necessary for files on for example a ssh remote location since unrar, unzip etc doesn't support files on a ssh remote location. But file-roller is threating files on a nfs mount exactly the same way, what is rather unnecessary. Because it takes a lot of time before a big archive is opened. Extracting is really slow this way, since the file have to be copied to my home folder, get extracted and copied back. ** Affects: file-roller (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- File-roller is threating a nfs mount like a remote filesystem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138486 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for file-roller in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 138486] Re: File-roller is threating a nfs mount like a remote filesystem
I found out that the problem is in the following piece of code (file- utils.c line 1253): gboolean uri_is_local (const char *uri) { GnomeVFSURI *vfs_uri; gboolean is_local; vfs_uri = new_uri_from_path (uri); g_return_val_if_fail (vfs_uri != NULL, FALSE); is_local = gnome_vfs_uri_is_local (vfs_uri); gnome_vfs_uri_unref (vfs_uri); return is_local; } gnome_vfs_uri_is_local says that a nfs url isn't local, what means that file-roller is threating it as a non local file. But file-roller should threat it as a local file, since nfs is mounted transparently. This means we have to add another check or it is a nfs mount, and then return true. I'm not really into gnome_vfs what means that I don't know to well which function i should use for that. -- File-roller is threating a nfs mount like a remote filesystem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138486 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for file-roller in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 138486] Re: File-roller is threating a nfs mount like a remote filesystem
Well, i made the following change: is_local = strcmp(gnome_vfs_uri_get_scheme (vfs_uri), file) == 0; Instead of using gnome_vfs_uri_is_local I check whether the scheme is equal to file. If the schema is file, the file could be transparently accessed by the filesystem so we could threat it like a local file.
