[Bug 569285] Re: [person] has joined the room when one joins an IRC channel

2010-04-30 Thread Robert Wall
As I said, it doesn't happen every time I join an IRC channel, but it
does happen often. Seems to be more frequent when I have a slow
connection or when I'm joining large channels (like #ubuntu on
freenode). Steps to reproduce:

1) Connect to IRC
2) Room menu - Join...
3) Account:[IRC Account], Room: #channelname (e.g. rww_ on chat.freenode.net
and #ubuntu)
4) Join
5) Maybe observe lots of /join notices in the channel window

[Bug 569285] [NEW] [person] has joined the room when one joins an IRC channel

2010-04-23 Thread Robert Wall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Empathy sometimes shows a [person] has joined the room line for every
person in the channel when the user joins an IRC channel. This behavior
is incorrect because: 1) the other people didn't just join the room, the
user did; 2) it only happens some of the time, so even if it's intended
behavior it's inconsistent.

[Bug 569286] [NEW] No way to apply theme changes to existing windows

2010-04-23 Thread Robert Wall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Changing the theme in Empathy preferences does not apply the new theme
to existing windows. As far as I can see, there's no way to do so. While
this isn't a huge problem in user-to-user windows (one can always just
close and re-open the window), it's a pain for group chats, where
closing the window leaves the chat room. Empathy should either 1) apply
changes to the theme setting to existing windows, or 2) offer a per-
window menu item to change the theme.

This problem also seems to apply to the setting for showing/hiding the
nick list in group chats.

[Bug 569289] [NEW] freenode is not the default IRC server

2010-04-23 Thread Robert Wall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

freenode is not the default IRC server in Empathy. Through past tireless
bug reporting on the part of others, freenode is the default IRC server
in most (all?) other IRC clients shipped with Ubuntu, to aid new users
in getting IRC support. Empathy, as the only pre-installed IRC-capable
client on Ubuntu desktop computers should also default to freenode,
instead of the first network in the (alphabetically-sorted) network
list.

[Bug 532387] [NEW] There was an error while parsing the account details. when adding new account in wizard

2010-03-04 Thread Robert Wall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

I started empathy for the first time (that I can remember) on this (lucid)
computer. A wizard popped up asking if I wanted to add an existing account,
create a new account, or just see people nearby. I selected add an existing
account, then selected Google Talk, then entered my Google ID and password. I
selected that I did had additional accounts to set up, then got the following
error (after several seconds of the window being blank):
---
There was an error while parsing the account details.

The error message was: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes
include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the
network connection was broken.

You can either go back and try to enter your accounts' details again or quit
this assistant and add accounts later from the Edit menu.
---
I then pressed the Back button, entered my account details again, selected that
I didn't have additional accounts, and pressed Next. On the next screen, I said
that I didn't want to enable the local chat feature, and pressed Apply.
Clicking the Apply button didn't do anything. After a few seconds, the window
changed to the same error as above.

I then clicked Close. In the Empathy contact list window, I did Edit -
Accounts and ended up back at the wizard's first page, which didn't work
any better the second time around.

[Bug 383256] Re: seahorse no longer running after upgrade to karmic, no gpg agent available

2009-07-15 Thread Robert Wall
seahorse-plugins was changed to a suggest in the latest version,
2.27.1-0ubuntu1. Since there's no changelog comment to that effect, I'm
not sure whether it was deliberate or an oversight during the merge from
Debian... Anyway. Not installing seahorse-plugins by default also breaks
Nautilus's ability to open .asc files, and removes the useful gedit
plugin to encrypt/decrypt text, so it'd be excellent to revert that
change (or at least get confirmation that it was deliberate?).

[Bug 378523] [NEW] Evolution won't set UTC as a second zone on Calendar and Tasks preferences

2009-05-19 Thread Robert Wall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I wanted to make events in Evolution's calendar display times in both
UTC and Pacific Daylight Time (my primary timezone), but the relevant
preference doesn't appear to work with UTC, though it does work with
other timezones.

Steps to reproduce:
0. Open Evolution
1. Edit Preferences
2. Click the Calendar and Tasks icon at the left side of the preferences
window
3. On the General tab, under Time, click the button to the right of Second
zone, and click Select...
4. In the dropdown box, scroll to the top and click UTC
5. Click OK
6. Note that the button says None instead of UTC
7. Click Close in the Preferences window
8. Note that UTC times are not shown in Day View

Expected result:
UTC is set as a second time zone and displayed in Day View.

Actual result:
No second timezone is set.

[Bug 342958] Re: lango is out of the screen in 9 netbooks

2009-03-14 Thread Robert Wall
Does the button part mean the top of the window? If so, you can move
windows by holding down the Alt key, clicking anywhere in the window,
and dragging. You should be able to get to the title bar that way.

If that's not what you meant, consider uploading a screenshot of the
behavior to illustrate better.

[Bug 337432] Re: search button not available

2009-03-04 Thread Robert Wall
I experience the same problem as jtlb. The Find button in the Find
window (Ctrl-F) and the Replace button in the Replace window (Ctrl-H)
only activate if I click the dropdown arrow and select a previous
pattern. If I instead type something into the box (which is blank when I
open the window), the button does not activate. Once I choose a previous
pattern, the windows work fine in the current document until I close it.

Specific steps to reproduce:
1) Open a new gedit window
2) Type or copy-paste some text into the window
3) Click Search Find or Ctrl-F
4) Type in a search term in the Search for: box
5) Notice that the Find button is inactive

Expected result:
The Find button should activate when a search term is entered into the
Search for: box.

[Bug 335623] Re: Intrepid - Jaunty Alpha5 : can not mark 'ubuntu-desktp' for upgrade

2009-03-01 Thread Robert Wall
@Matthias Klose,

This is not a mirror issue; I got the packages directly from launchpad
librarian. As I've already said, amd64 has not been transitioned
correctly.

The amd64 python-launchpad-integration .deb created from the build you linked
has the following Depends:
libc6 (= 2.2.5), libglib2.0-0 (= 2.12.0), liblaunchpad-integration1 (=
0.1.17), python ( 2.6), python (= 2.5), python-central (= 0.6.11)
It only includes /usr/lib/python2.5 stuff, not python2.6 stuff.

The i386 p-l-i .deb created by
https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/launchpad-integration/0.1.22/+build/878959
 has the following Depends:
Depends: libc6 (= 2.1.3), libglib2.0-0 (= 2.12.0), liblaunchpad-integration1
(= 0.1.17), python ( 2.7), python (= 2.5), python-central (= 0.6.11)
It includes both /usr/lib/python2.5 and /usr/lib/python2.6 stuff.

[Bug 335623] Re: Intrepid - Jaunty Alpha5 : can not mark 'ubuntu-desktp' for upgrade

2009-03-01 Thread Robert Wall
@Steve Kowalik, @Matthias Klose: My apologies. I misread Matthias'
comment and thought he said that 0.1.22 fixed this bug. Anyway, I just
tried an upgrade to Jaunty again, and it worked fine. Thanks for the
bug-fix :)

[Bug 335623] Re: Intrepid - Jaunty Alpha5 : can not mark 'ubuntu-desktp' for upgrade

2009-02-28 Thread Robert Wall
@DLCBurggraaff

Looks like it was mentioned on ubuntu-devel-announce at
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-
announce/2009-February/000541.html . I missed that message due to some
recent problems with my mail client. I guess this is an object lesson
about checking the lists before reporting bugs ;)

Anyway. It looks like python-launchpad-integration for i386 has been
transitioned correctly, as it requires python 2.7 and correctly uses
/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/. python-launchpad-integration for
amd64 hasn't been transitioned yet, though, hence the problems we're
seeing. python-launchpad-integration isn't in the ~pythoneers PPA, so
adding the line from the mailing list won't expedite anything.

[Bug 335623] Re: Intrepid - Jaunty Alpha5 : can not mark 'ubuntu-desktp' for upgrade

2009-02-28 Thread Robert Wall
Further investigation reveals that this problem seems to be caused by
python-launchpad-integration depending on python 2.6, so I'm adding
launchpad-integration to the Affected list.
