[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2013-11-20 Thread RobinJ
Sorry if I'm wrong, but wouldn't we simply be able to check every second
or so whether the settings daemon from the login manager has exited, and
only when that one has exited, start the settings daemon for the user?

[Bug 1212400] [NEW] flush after copy

2013-08-14 Thread RobinJ
Public bug reported:

I think every day-to-day Linux user has come across the problem quite
frequently by now, as it's by now means specific to elementary OS (and
thus, I must admit I'm not certain whether I filed this report under the
right project).

Insert a USB drive (in this case a 4GB one with a FAT32 file system), copy a
large file like a movie to it.
Result: The copy dialog will show up, and within 10 seconds or so the bar is at
100% and it says 0 seconds remaining.
After that you still have to wait ~5 minutes for the data to actually be copied.
When looking at iotop during tis time you can see a process called flush is
still actively working (the weird thing is that it's often more like 80%+ IO
for a while, then nothing for a while, and repeat until finished).
When it's finally done, the file copy dialog will disappear and you can safely
unmount the storage media.

This is a longstanding problem preset in many distro's, and I think it's
about time something was done about it. Although I don't really know
whether it's related to the file manager or something else. But seeing
as I wouldn't have a clue what else it'd be related to, I chose to file
it as a bug in the file manager.

Same here. Very annoying.
You can see activity with `iotop`, but copying speeds are miserable.

[Bug 1032924] [NEW] Music lags

2012-08-04 Thread RobinJ
Public bug reported:

When I'm playing music, sometimes the music just stops for a second or less and
then continues. This can happen several times in a song. In this case it's an
MP3, if haven't tested FLAC yet.
As you can see in the screenshot below, the resource usage isn't that high.

[Bug 995425] [NEW] Copy disc - Wrong size

2012-05-06 Thread RobinJ
Public bug reported:

Test case:
1. Insert a CD in your CD drive with 15MB of content.
2. Copy image - Image file - ISO
3. After the copying finished, eject the CD without closing Brasero.
4. Insert the next CD (contents around 560MB in my case).
5. Copy image - Image file - ISO
6. At first it still showed the title and size of the first CD. I cancelled it,
mounted the CD with Nautilus, and repeated step 5. This time it showed the
correct title, but not the correct size (still 15MB).
7. Start copying.
8. When it's finished, go to the location where the ISO file was saved.
Observe; It's a 15MB ISO with only half-written files, while the CD's contents
where around 560MB.
9. Restart Brasero, and repeat step 5. This time it reports the correct title
and size. The created image is the correct size, but when you extract it, the
content is onlt 150MB and the files are corrupted/half-written.

[Bug 995425] Re: Copy disc - Wrong size

2012-05-06 Thread RobinJ
This just keeps getting better and better... The first image seems to be
corrupted as well, though File Roller can read it without problems.

When I first started using Ubuntu, I found Brasero to be a bit buggy.
Now, 5 years later, it's even worse .

[Bug 879503] [NEW] gedit doesn't appear about half of the time.

2011-10-21 Thread RobinJ
Public bug reported:

When I try starting gedit, nothing seems to happen. Running `pidof
gedit` though tells me it's running. Most of the times, if it's already
running, when I try to open it again, the previous running instance
suddenly shows, as no new process seems to be created. So most of the
times I need to start gedit twice (sometimes even three times) to
actually get it on my screen.

[Bug 875693] [NEW] Nautilus crashes when trying to access /usr/share as root.
