This has affected me on every Ubuntu since 9.04 at least. Working with remote files through sftp was a PITA. It was one of the reasons for me to end up using Kate. Kate doesn't use GVFS, so it won't hang, just reconnects when needed. If what type of account you are referring to the mail account, are gmail, yahoo and terra. Evolution is the only application that I use the ring of keys, because I do not use wireless network on that team and I do not know of other applications that use it.
