This new package didn't seem to work for me after a Lucid re-install - I still needed to put the .desktop file in /usr/share/xsessions - any debugging tips? [Bug 116183] GTK's compose map is different to X's
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0 I'm guessing that GTK is the root cause of this. But basically, I can't type certain compose sequences in Mozilla, OOo or gnome-terminal that work in xterm or emacs. Or, the resultant sequences will be different. For instance, in emacs or xterm if I type Multi_key underscore A, I get a ā as defined in /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose. However, if I enter it in any gtk application, I get ª. This is particularly irritating when entering pīnyīn, which uses characters like ǚ. I have yet to figure out what gtk expects me to hit to compose a character with a caron on it, or why it doesn't just let X.org do it for it. I've seen this in all Ubuntu releases from Dapper to Feisty, and I expect that this is the root cause behind Bug #98945 too. Note I'm using xkb directly to configure my keyboard, not gnome- keyboard-properties. Every time I start certain gnome-control-panel applications they will override this keymap and I will have to re-run xkbcomp to load the keymap I actually want. ** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- GTK's compose map is different to X's https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/116183 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gtk+2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

gtk is ignoring the X key map. how is that not a bug. Sam. Sebastien Bacher wrote: Thanks for your comments. This does not appear to be a bug report and we are closing it. [Bug 51407] Re: postmodern tile set has incorrect chinese characters
Ok, I have confirmed with a native Chinese person that the current postmodern set is fine and that the problems I raised are just script style difference. [Bug 51400] Can't edit partitions without adding and removing
Public bug reported: Ok, not being able to resize a partition, I'll begrudgingly accept. But not being able to select the type of the partition without deleting and recreating it is quite annoying. [Bug 51407] postmodern tile set has incorrect chinese characters
Public bug reported: Hi there, Despite not being Chinese, starting mahjongg I am somehow offended on behalf of the Zhongren that the default tileset has some characters which are drawn incorrectly; that is to say the character has been stylised based on poor interpretations of the original brush strokes. What has probably happened is that already stylised characters were used as a basis for the postmodern set, and subtleties of the original strokes were overlooked. In particular; the 4 of characters is definitely wrong, and the 7 and 8 of characters look awkward. One or two of the wind tiles do not look to be composed of valid strokes. I think most of the others are probably ok. It might be worth getting someone who is actually Chinese to look at the postmodern tile set and point out which characters need fixing. This might seem stupid and trivial, but I understand well written script is important to the Chinese, and Mahjongg is a famous game with much heritage in that country. ** Affects: gnome-games (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- postmodern tile set has incorrect chinese characters https://launchpad.net/bugs/51407 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 51400] Re: Can't edit partitions without adding and removing
I think what happened was the sub-menu was grayed out for me, and it wasn't completely obvious why. It did feel like the kind of bug that you'd have to be nuking a Windows partition from orbit at the time to truly appreciate. The machine is still caught with the sickness, every circuit dreading that instruction processor leap into sector 0. Even though the system was already purring more gently, it was still weak, not yet fully capable. After some battling, the installer crashed for me [https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/50957], at which point I could have sworn I could feel the seething of the entity on the hard disk below towards my fingers. Not to be beaten, I noted it down on my bug powder dust trail, swore I'd curse that behaviour with a bugreport, and fired up ubiquity once more. The next time through we were much better prepared; not going to fall for the murphy's cylinder rounding again [https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/51396], I opted for a 2.5GB root, and then bore down upon that XP install with reckless and wanton abandon. With a firm pass through with parted and the installation checkmarked go, I reflected upon how cool it was the first time I got to play Tetris while installing Linux, and how much infinitely cooler this was, installing via the LiveCD. So in this nostalgic moment I chose to log my bug reports, and finish it all off with a gratiutous game of Mahjongg, which, incidentally, was solved first time. That's when I knew that the installation had done the trick. Anyway, IIRC I had a partition space that I wanted to change to don't format that was already marked as being ext3. And, I don't remember Format to... being available. So, I reckon if you can't replicate that behaviour pretty quickly then this bug doesn't really deserve to exist much longer. All the best from NZ dude :-) Keep up the good work and have a great weekend. -- Can't edit partitions without adding and removing https://launchpad.net/bugs/51400 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 31132] XKB errors cause gnome-settings-daemon to exit badly
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31132 Affects: control-center gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: If you configure multiple actions to the same key in System-Preferences-Keyboard / Layout Options, an incorrect XKB configuration will be generated. This causes a nasty loop where the settings daemon will load, send signals to all gnome applications to load a new theme, then die and they all reset to unthemed again. ie, all Gnome windows will appear to flash rapidly between your theme and the system default. Eventually Gnome notices and stops restarting gnome-settings-daemon, and you have no theme at all.
