[Bug 1998964] Re: Laptop wakes up from sleep when lid is closed if mouse is moved

2022-12-07 Thread Sami Pietila
Agreed that the behavior should be dependent on the existence of
external display and keyboard where the current behavior would make
sense.

I tried how Windows 11 behaves and it did not seem to wake up on mouse
events when laptop lid is closed.

This did not seem to change the behavior:
sudo sh -c "echo XHCI > /proc/acpi/wakeup"

Lately I have been using the controller with a wireless adapter (not
bluetooth). This driver (https://github.com/medusalix/xow) seems to work
well. It would be nice if Ubuntu would ship this driver by default. Now
it must be manually installed from github.

2020-05-09 Thread Sami Pietila
I have the latest Ubuntu 20.04 and it also seems to have this bug. There
are workarounds, but I think it should work out of the box like it does
on Windows. It is weird to have this kind of bug as Xbox One controller
might just be the most popular controller and these kinds of issues
prevent people from gaming on Linux.

[Bug 910754] [NEW] Problems watching DVD on ubuntu

2012-01-02 Thread Sami Pietila
Public bug reported:

There are multiple problems while watching DVD on ubuntu:

- Sometimes audio and video goes off sync (fast forwarding backwards usually
remedies the problem)
- If I pause playing: resuming play starts sometimes (quite rarely) at wrong
location (earlier of the film).
- If I pause playing: resuming play skips 2 - 10 seconds the movie while DVD
drive is spinning up.
- Fast forwarding 2 - 5 times result freeze of the totem and eventually it
crashes.

- With Gnome Shell: Gnome shell status bar (bottom of the screen) quite
often shows icons at the lower right corner. At the same time the whole
DVD control menu (while playing dvd at full screen) is blocked by the
invisible bar.

2010-08-22 Thread Sami Pietila
Public bug reported:

I have wippies ADSL-box, which can use USB-drive as a SMB network share.

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Hi,

I have HP Compaq nx6325 and Ubuntu Lucid. After a boot the screen is
bright. If I try to decrease screen brightness and then increase
brightness again to full, the screen does not become as bright as it is
from the boot (even if the ubuntu screen brightness popup meter shows
full). The full brightness can be restored only by booting the machine.

- It also happens that if I haven't set the brightness and the screen is
- bright and I push fn+f10 (which is a button to increase the screen
- brightness) the screen actually becomes dimmer (ubuntu brightness popup
- shows full value).

[Bug 70129] Usability problems

2006-11-03 Thread Sami Pietila
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

I upgraded Ubuntu from Dapper to Edgy and received a new Gaim. I
experienced following problems with the new Gaim, (some of them make
Gaim almost unusable for me):

- I can't find SEND button from message dialog. ENTER-key seems to send the
message. Which is not what I want. There is no settings entry anymore to alter
the behavior.
- I haven't seen anymore the icon, which indicates that other person is typing
(this was a nice feature).

** Affects: gaim (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

Correction, it seems that the icon, showing when other person is typing,
is working.

[Bug 70129] Re: Usability problems

2006-11-03 Thread Sami Pietila
Thanks for the comments.

Unfortunately, my problem still remains.

Let me clarify the case. As long as I have used instant messaging
(almost a decade now), I have written and edited (like in a text editor)
my messages, and then pressed the send button to send the messages. It
is easy to use and easy to understand (perfect email metaphor).

Now it seems this elegant way of using messaging is gone. Now I have
more empty tool panel, because the button is missing. I would gladly
give up the empty space to have the button back. Of cource, the send
button is still on the menu. But using menu for a common task is just
not feasible.

My choices seem to be to change the messager (at least some messagers
still support my use-case) or get used to the ENTER-sends way of
sending the messages.

It seems to me that gaim has lost more than it has gained by this new
design. At least in terms of usability.
