*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1672424 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1672424 I'm not sure I agree that this is a duplicate of 1672424. 1672424 bug documents in step 2 that an error message is displayed when the gnome- software app is starting, stating 'Sorry this did not work The file is not supported'. The behavior I characterized is different. gnome-software starts fine, and presents its UI with the Install button. When the Install button is clicked - nothing happens. There is no error message and I have not been able to locate a log messages either (but I may not know where to look). [Bug 1682879] [NEW] gnome-software on Ubuntu 17.04 distro wont install downloaded apps
Public bug reported: Downloaded gitkraken from https://www.gitkraken.com/download Downlaod file was saved in my user ~/Downloads folder is gitkraken-amd64.deb Clicked on file in Downloads folder and it opens `Ubuntu Software` app and offers an `Install` button Click Install button and nothing happens. The button goes through the click-state changes visually but the app is not installed To install the app I have to open a terminal and run sudo dpkg -i ~/Downlaods/gitkraken-amd64.deb sudp apt install -y -f In the GUI app, I am not prompted to elevate, no error is given and no action results from clicking on the button. This is a clean, fresh install of 17.04 from 4/12/2017 (disk repartitioned by defaults and OS installed fresh on the clean disk) Repro'd same behavior with Google Chrome .deb file - had to install it manually.
