[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-05-22 Thread Sean Fenton
mellofello, that's really interesting. I'll try that out.

I'm still looking for a way to logout cleanly, closing all programs,
until this is fixed. I've now tried the commands gnome-session-save
--logout gnome-session-save --force-logout.

(The deprecated command gnome-session-save --kill --silent is indicated in
these places:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=222173
https://www.linux.com/archive/feature/153953 )

No matter what, I get the error ** (gnome-session-save:PID): WARNING
**: Unable to start: Cannot open display:. I don't know enough to
troubleshoot this my searches haven't yielded anything.

Ctrl+s is now muscle memory, that's for sure.

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity

2011-05-13 Thread Sean Fenton
ThinkPad T500, Natty 64bit: I turned off the screensaver entirely set
the screen to sleep after 5min. Now it doesn't lock up every time, but
still locks up. Often, the screen will wake up the GUI will all be
frozen.

I just tried the Alt + SysRq + r + s + e + i + u + b trick it
wouldn't reboot. All the steps appeared to work until the b for
reboot. Bug 303601 might be relevant here.

I don't have time right now to learn why it didn't reboot for me just
now, but I'll do that next. Also, there's another key combination with
Alt + PrintScreen + r + e + i + s + u + b, which is the way I always
remember it.

[Bug 756811] Re: nautilus crashes sporadically without any preceeding action

I assumed this was a bug because it started happening right after an
update. I'm not sure it is, however. I'll report back after I've figured
out how to troubleshoot it have some results.

[Bug 756811] [NEW] nautilus crashes sporadically without any preceeding action

2011-04-10 Thread Sean Fenton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I was unable to run ubuntu-bug on nautilus. See apport bug 756783.

1)
Description: Ubuntu 10.10
Release: 10.10

2)
nautilus:
  Installed: 1:2.32.2-0ubuntu4~ppa171
  Candidate: 1:2.32.2-0ubuntu4~ppa171
  Version table:
 *** 1:2.32.2-0ubuntu4~ppa171 0
500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/elementaryart/elementarydesktop/ubuntu/
maverick/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:2.32.0-0ubuntu1.3 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-updates/main amd64
Packages
 1:2.32.0-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main amd64 Packages

3)
I expected Nautilus not to crash, especially when I wasn't doing anything.

4)
I left some windows open during my last session (I have Automatically remember
running applications when logging out enabled) when Nautilus crashed, it
took down all windows brought back up only the ones I'd left open last
session. The others I had opened since booting were not respawned.

I found this line in syslog: Apr 10 13:41:25 desktop kernel: [

Re: [Bug 610131] Re: Facebook contacts cannot be added to groups

2010-08-25 Thread Sean Fenton

Is there some place (url) to ask the facebook ppl to allow this?

The thing is that we don't need Facebook to do anything. We just need to be
able to create local groups in Empathy to organize contacts.

Is anyone reading this thread who can take it back out of Won't Fix status
is willing to discuss finding a solution like local groups?

Thanks, Omer, for replying. So how do we find a solution?

restriction from facebook itself. its XMPP implementation does not allow

empathy to make contact groups.

I looked upstream but didn't see a bug report referencing what you're
talking about: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/browse.cgi?product=empathy

Why does it matter what Facebook wants to do? I just want to organize my
contacts in Empathy.

I talked to the upstream developers of empathy and they say the XMPP
protocol that facebook allows doesnot allow for contacts to be grouped.
generally facebook have a real bad XMPP support.

Yes, I understand, but how about we enable creation of local groups so users
can organize their Facebook contacts regardless of what Facebook wants to
do? Do we really just have to throw our hands up in the air, because of
Facebook?
