[Bug 188973] Re: printing pdf causes abnormally large job

2011-02-25 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
I've just tested the file attached to this bug (coqspi-sn.pdf) on
Maverick 10.10 (evince 2.32.0-0ubuntu1, libpoppler7 0.14.3-0ubuntu1) and
as Nathan said the problem seems to have been resolved. Print to file
generated a postscript file that was 6.4Mbytes big rather than the
26Mbytes it was previously generating on Lucid.

Whether this fix should be backported to Lucid is a different issue - I
would guess it depends on how invasive the libpoppler patch that fixed
it is...

2010-11-22 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
(If you post a question to a bug please subscribe yourself to the bug so

Amr:
The answer is somewhat complicated and boils down to it is probably encrypted
on disk.

Empathy passwords are stored in the GNOME keyring, which by default is
encrypted on disk using your login password. It is possible to override
this and use unsafe storage with your GNOME keyring in which case it
will be stored on disk in something that amounts to plain text.

Once a keyring is unlocked all passwords can be viewed in their original
unencrypted form. Typically, when you log in your keyring unlocked.

Description of the problem:

Steps to reproduce:

Expected result:
No warnings to be shown. Battery information to be somewhat sensible.

Actual result:

[Bug 460677] [NEW] Vertical green line appears when window is off top of screen

2009-10-25 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Public bug reported:

Description of the problem:
When using gstreamer to play one particular video a vertical green line will
appear if the window is dragged off the top of the screen.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Download the attached video (dur.flv).
2. Run
gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///$PWD/dur.flv
.
3. While the video is playing quickly drag the window so that it is partially
of the top of the screen.

Expected result:
Video to keep playing with no artifacts / green lines.

Actual result:
Colours go strange and a green line appears through the video.

How reproducible is the problem:
It is reproducible every time.

Expected results:
Remixed version of the classic Bomberman battle music scale to be played.

Actual results:
The following is printed:
Pipeline is PREROLLING ...
Pipeline is PREROLLED ...
Setting pipeline to PLAYING ...
New clock: GstPulseSinkClock

but no music is produced.

Additional information:
The file plays in the gstreamer bundled with Ubuntu 8.04.

[Bug 76424] Re: Kernel upgrades without reboot break resume from hibernation

2009-05-01 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
The Red Hat bug is somewhat different as I believe they keep more old
kernels around than Ubuntu. A broken resume from hibernate rarely
results in complete data loss as the kernel buffers are usually flushed
before the computer is hibernated. It's about as bad as doing as
resetting after having run sync and having watied for it to finish.

2009-04-26 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
I have just tested this using the procedure described in steps to
reproduce and this is still here with BOTH compiz and metacity (I do not
believe this is a bug in the window manager as it is being reported by
gnome-panel). The only difference between using compiz or metactiy seems
to be the the size of the dimensions reported (compiz says width -6 and
height 24 whereas when using metacity width -5 and height 24 is
reported)

[Bug 326812] Re: Boot freezes

2009-02-08 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
This sounds very strange and might be bordering on a hardware bug (e.g.
disk is about to fail) but it's hard to say without being able to see
things first hand. I would suggest disabling the pretty BIOS splash
screen from the BIOS (so _keep_ tapping (you can't just hold it down) F2
as the eeepc starts until it goes to the BIOS setup) and read the
startup messages to find out where BIOS was stalling...

[Bug 33673] Re: Not obvious when logout is stalled by window on another virtual desktop / window beneath front-most one / window is minimised

2008-09-11 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
On Intrepid the dialog window mentioned by SaĆÆvann appears when you
logout using the Log Out button at the top right too (not just with the
user switcher). I think if this behaviour could be coupled with the
ability to bring such programs to the foreground then that would
completely solve this bug. As it stands I would say that Intrepid's
behaviour turns this issue into an enhancement request.

[Bug 33673] Re: Not obvious when logout is stalled by window on another virtual desktop / window beneath front-most one / window is minimised

2008-07-31 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
** Summary changed:

- Logout save? dialog inaccessible - window list frozen; Not obvious when
logout is stalled by window on another virtual desktop
+ Not obvious when logout is stalled by window on another virtual desktop /
window beneath front-most one / window is minimised

** Description changed:

  Description of the problem:
It is possible for certain programs to stall the logout process so they can
ask questions. If such the program that does it is on another desktop, the only
way to see that desktop is by using keybord shortcuts (plus it is not obvious
that you have to check the other desktop).

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Make sure no gedit windows are open on any desktop.
  2. Press ctrl-alt-right to switch to another desktop.
  3. Go to Applications - Accessories - Text Editor.
  4. When gedit appears type 'a' so the document becomes unsaved.
  5. Press ctrl-alt-left to switch to original desktop.
  6. Go to System - Log Out user...
  7. Click on Log Out.

  Expected result:
- Desktop to be switched to desktop containg dialog stopping the logout.
gnome-panels to remain responsive until the last possible minute.
+ Desktop to be switched to desktop containing dialog stopping the logout.
gnome-panels to remain responsive until the last possible minute.

  Actual results:
Desktop remains on desktop not showing the logout stopping dialog.
gnome-panel applets become unresponsive (Window List and Workspace Switcher no
longer respond to mouse input). No indication of which desktop needs attention,
only way to see the dialog is to use ctrl-alt-right .

Mildly related to Bug #4406 .

- Edit:
- Bringing another window in front of gedit is enough to cause trouble.
- gedit flashes in the taskbar, but you can't bring it to the front because the
window list is frozen.
- In fact, *all* gnome panels are frozen.
+ Additional information:
+ A variant of this also occurs when the gedit window is underneath another
window and is completely covered or gedit is minimised. gedit flashes in the
taskbar (so it is obvious that something needs to be done), but you can't bring
it to the front because the window list is frozen (it is not obvious how to
provide the required attention). In such cases the user may be forced to
alt-tab to gedit in order to bring it to the front.

[Bug 45728] Re: Media file could not be played. when P key kept pressed

2008-05-09 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Totem (in 7.10) goes a little bit funny when using the reproduction
steps. Keep P held down until the time bar stops moving from left to
right (this seems to happen after about 6 seconds on my system). When
you next unpause the seekbar will not move and the sound will never
start playing. totem no longer locks up though. Should this go into a
new bug report?

2008-03-30 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Public bug reported:

Description of the problem:
If a GNOME program has hung it can stop the logout process indefinitely and
without warning.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Download http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/media/small/multi.ogg and save it

2. Double click it to open it with Totem Movie Player.

This should make totem lock up and stop updating its window contents and show a
busy animation when the pointer is over it.
4. Go to System - Quit... and then click on Log Out.

Expected results:
All program's to be quit. Possibly for some program's to ask questions (but to
be killed if the answer is not forthcoming).

Actual results:
Program's which are stuck will cause the log out process to be stalled. Menus
