[Bug 1069843] Re: Nautilus consuming memory and cpu

2013-04-26 Thread Sten Grüner
Problem hits me also since upgrade on Ubuntu 12.10. Can we increase
importance of this bug since nautilus randomly burns my laptop's
battery.

[Bug 885621] [NEW] right mouse button is disabled

2011-11-03 Thread Sten T Martin
Public bug reported:

After having an error where several right-mouse-button-click-windows
pops up automatically and sometimes the hole screen freezes I did an
update of the software. It was impossible to use Ubuntu with the
problem.

After software update the problem was gon but the right mouse button was
disabled. If that was a temporary solution of the problem I do not
know. Please advise

I am using Macbuntu on Ubuntu 10.10.

[Bug 481576] Re: Action on critical battery is not triggered - gnome-power-manager

2009-12-17 Thread sten
I'm running Karmic, and am still experiencing this bug. I'll try
bumping the time_action and time_critical values to more conservative
settings, and will post an update soon. As I have an old battery, my
Thinkpad's critical power level is around 5%. Hibernate should occur at
4%, or 3% at the absolute lowest. A time-based value seems better for a
wider range of battery capacities, but the default 120 and 300 seconds
are just too low.

[Bug 481576] Re: Action on critical battery is not triggered - gnome-power-manager

2009-12-17 Thread sten
P.S. When running gnome-power-manager in verbose mode, I get no output
before hibernate doesn't occur and the system dies. I mounted my
partition -o sync, and tail -f gpm.log in another tab, just to make sure
I wouldn't miss anything.

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2009-05-23 Thread sten
Thinkpad X32. Upgraded-from-Intrepid-to-Jaunty. Gnome Power Manager
correctly detects the battery state, correctly issues a low battery
warning but doesn't initiate hibernation until 0% battery is reached.
Additionally, the normal battery light starts flashing orange at the
appropriate time...but still no automatic hibernation. What happened?
This used to be one of the most reliable and supported laptops *ever*!
Manual hibernation and resume still work great.

Which logs do I need to attach to debug this?

Thanks,
Nick

[Bug 135548] Re: [Gutsy] Action on critical battery isn't triggered - regression

2009-05-23 Thread sten
Here are what seem like the relevant logs based on this document:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingGNOMEPowerManager#head-7d2eb767e44a7231fae6964dcf12bc27fe507c9d

Please note that that my laptop *did* successfully hibernate, and return
from hibernation from the gnome-power-cmd hibernate command.

[Bug 250517] Re: gvfs performs slowly on bulk sftp transfers

2009-03-20 Thread sten
I've been using iptraf to measure network traffic. My current
statistics are comparable with John's. Because gvfs-copy is also
significantly slower than scp, I wonder if FUSE might also be part of
this bug? No time for me to check right now, but is sshfs as slow as
gvfs-copy?

[Bug 250517] Re: gvfs performs slowly on bulk sftp transfers

2009-03-20 Thread sten
I don't have two Intrepid machines to test this further, but I can test
Hardy-to-Intrepid if it would help. With the exception of the file
operations dialogue, all line-speed measurements were taken with
iptraf.

Wireless G @ 54M
sftp peak: 1229 KB/s. Average is about 1 MB/s
sftp reports transfer speeds between 900 KB/s and 1.1 MB/s
gvfs-copy peak: 1174 KB/s. Average is about 900 KB/s
nautilus copy: Peak 12153 KB/s. Average is about 900 KB/s
File operations dialogue reports transfer speed as between 700 and 800
KB/s

Conclusion: wireless isn't fast enough to properly test this. Transfer
rates are in the same ballpark. Hardy and Intrepid have resolved the
worst of Gutsy's gvfs problems, for wireless, at least. The file
operations dialogue seems to use some sort of transfer speed averaging
function to smooth out the fluctuations in speed, but it needs work. I
haven't looked at the code, but I would imagine that making the sampling
period smaller (time or bytes transferred...which one work work better,
I'm not sure). Of course, CPU usage will go up if the sampling period
is too small... Maybe keep the refresh rate of the transfer speed
function the same, but have it look at the last MB transferred, instead
of however it's doing it now (I suspect it's looking at more than just 1
MB)

At any rate, John, could you please test using sftp on your gigabit
ethernet? I think 802.11g bandwidth is the bottleneck, for me -- which
isn't so bad. ;-)

Sebastien, are fuse mounts really not used? I tried to gvfs-copy my
sftp://URL, but it fails with: Error copying file sftp://blah/blah: The
specified location is not mounted. Does gvfs-copy not use ~/.gvfs,
which is a mount of type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon? (for Hardy to Hardy.
I haven't yet checked to see if Intrepid maintains this behaviour)

While not the same speed, I've noticed an improvement recently (using
Intrepid). Is yours just as slow?
