[Bug 93208] GParted no longer on LiveCD? Feisty Herd-5

[Bug 86162] Re: Desktop halts loading when startup sound is played
Bruce, Thank you for your report. Would you mind providing a few more details: - Which version of Ubuntu you are using - Describe whether this is an intermittent problem you experience or is it something you can reproduce on-demand. - Describe the manufacturer and model of system you have - Upload the output you get for $ sudo lspci -vvn and $ sudo dmidecode -- Desktop halts loading when startup sound is played https://launchpad.net/bugs/86162 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 86162] Desktop halts loading when startup sound is played
Public bug reported: In Feisty LiveCD on my laptop, after the user ubuntu is automatically logged in then the desktop starts to render and then there is a sub- second of audio and the desktop just freezes. I can reset the desktop (Ctrl-Alt-Backspace), however the cycle just repeats. I then found that if I kill the most recent of the two esd's that are running (killed from the console, Ctrl-Alt-F1) then the desktop resumes loading no problem. $ sudo lspci -v shows: 00:14.5 Multimedia audio controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP150 AC'97 Audio Controller Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Unknown device 006b Flags: bus master, 66MHz, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 5 Memory at e8003000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256] 00:14.6 Modem: ATI Technologies Inc IXP AC'97 Modem (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [Generic]) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Unknown device 006b Flags: bus master, 66MHz, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 5 Memory at e8003400 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256] Also occurs after I've installed Feisty and booted from the hard drive. Other information: using Control Center, I can turn off the startup sound and the desktop will subsequently load the desktop during startup after booting from the hard drive, however I have no workaround for this when using the LiveCD. Additionally, strangely enough, the problem appears to be affected by whether or not the laptop is on AC power during startup. On battery, this problem is intermittent, versus it will consistently fail when on AC. [Bug 85963] LiveCD Cannot unmount volume from desktop
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager After manually mounting a partition (using /bin/mount) an icon for the volume appears on the Feisty LiveCD desktop. Right-clicking on the icon and selecting Unmount Volume causes an error message box: Cannot unmount volume. Cannot unmount the volume. Then clicking on Details shows: Cannot open /media/.hal-mtab Now I understand that the user isn't supposed to do this (manually mount the volume using the shell and then try to unmount using the desktop) because doing the same on an installed instance of Feisty it shows the error message box a different message: Cannot unmount volume. The volume was probably mounted manually on the command line. Then clicking on Details shows: Device to unmount is not in /media/.hal-mtab so it is not mounted in HAL When using the LiveCD the error message doesn't indicate what the true problem is. [Bug 67152] Re: [network-admin] WEP doesn't work when setting key using network-admin
Stephen, what version of Ubuntu do you use? $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS Release:6.06 Codename: dapper desktop-i386 Hardware: HP Pavilion zx5078cl $ lspci |grep Broadcom :02:02.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03) Now that the write to /etc/network/interfaces is working for Andreas the remaining problem is that the iwconfig still needs to be run, or system rebooted, which is what I also reported in #80499. Should #80499 be marked as a duplicate of this bug, or vice-versa? -- [network-admin] WEP doesn't work when setting key using network-admin https://launchpad.net/bugs/67152 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 67152] Re: [network-admin] WEP doesn't work when setting key using network-admin
Andreas reports that he makes the changes in the interface properties dialog box, then clicks OK but does not see the changes made in the /etc/network/interfaces config file. However after that Interface Properties dialog box closes, focus is returned to network-admin dialog box (titled Network settings) at that point, I too see that the config file has not yet been written to. It is not until the OK button in network-admin also is pressed that network-admin writes the changes to the config file. If instead you click cancel in network-admin, any changes made in Interface Properties are discarded and never written to the config file. Additionally, I am experiencing a similar problem in connecting where after making the change (even if network-admin writes the changes to the config file), I still need to manually re-issue the iwconfig to get a connection, or else I can simply reboot: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/netbase/+bug/80499 -- [network-admin] WEP doesn't work when setting key using network-admin https://launchpad.net/bugs/67152 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
