[Bug 1288855] [NEW] Shrinking windows - each new window is smaller than the previous one
Public bug reported: Each time I open a nautilus window, the window is smaller than the previous window I opened. The windows shrink only in the vertical dimension. The first window might be 400px high. The next window might be 380px high. The next one is 360px high. And so on. To reproduce: 1) Open a window in nautilus. Observe the size. 2) Close the window 3) Open a new window Expected results: The window from step 3 is the same size as the one in step 1 Actual results: The window from step 3 is not as tall as the one in step 1 This is 100% reproducible on my system. [Bug 1280300] [NEW] Desktop contents displayed on resume, before lock screen is shown
Public bug reported: I am running 14.04. When I resume from sleep, the contents of my desktop (including any open windows, emails, etc) are displayed onscreen briefly before the unlock screen is shown. This potentially allows an attacker to view the contents of a locked screen. To reproduce: 1) Suspend a machine, e.g. by closing the lid 2) Resume the machine Expected results: Upon resume, the first thing shown onscreen is the screensaver unlock screen. Actual results: Upon resume, the first thing shown onscreen is the set of open windows that were displayed before the machine was put to sleep. [Bug 1239886] [NEW] regression: keyboard backlight hotkeys no longer functional

[Bug 1124408] [NEW] wav file garbled in totem, plays fine in gst-launch and mplayer
Public bug reported: I tried to pay a .wav file in totem. The audio is garbled in totem but plays back fine in mplayer or when using gst-launch from the command line. This is a problem because Thunderbird uses Totem as the default handler for .wav audio, so .wav attachments to mails will be opened in Totem. [Bug 950160] Re: Unity blocks other programs from binding globally to Super+* (* = any key)
@Daniel: The user never touches the super key in the scenarios we care most about; the user only presses the display switch hotkeys on the laptop. Maybe this is not relevant, and reducing the timeout in Unity will still help. It seems like an important detail though. Note that in our testing in comment #86, the dash still opens if you hold the 'F1' for ~1 second - it does not have to be a quick tap. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/950160 Title: Unity blocks other programs from binding globally to Super+* (* = any key) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/950160/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 950160] Re: Unity blocks other programs from binding globally to Super+* (* = any key)
There is a fix in testing here: https://launchpad.net/~timo-jyrinki/+archive/quantal-compiz-unity-testing (ppa:timo-jyrinki/quantal-compiz-unity-testing). My findings: I tested the packages in the PPA on a Dell XPS13 with 12.04 and all of the latest updates from precise-updates. My findings: 1) The display switch hotkey now works; pressing it cycles through video modes as expected. The 'p' character is not emitted. 2) A side effect of the fix is that the dash opens when you press the display switch hotkey I think the side effect needs to be fixed. Some more information about the side effect: * The display switch hotkey is Fn-F1 * If you press Fn-F1 and release both Fn and F1 at the same time, the dash opens * If you press Fn-F1 and release F1 before releasing Fn, the the dash does not open * If you press Fn-F1 and release Fn before releasing F1, the dash opens * If you press Fn-F1 and do not release either key, the Unity keyboard shortcuts window opens The packages I tested from the PPA were: compiz 1:0.9.7.8+bzr3121-0ubuntu2~test1 unity 5.18.0-0ubuntu2~test1 and the corresponding versions of libunity-core-5.0-5, unity-common, unity-services, compiz-core, compiz-gnome, and compiz-plugins-default -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/950160 Title: Unity blocks other programs from binding globally to Super+* (* = any key) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/950160/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 950160] Re: Unity blocks other programs from binding globally to Super+* (* = any key)
I tested the following on a Dell XPS13 running 12.04 LTS. These packages did not fix the super-p key behavior: compiz - 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.5~test2 gnome-settings-daemon 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.4 unity - 5.16.0-0ubuntu2~test1 The unity + compiz packages came from https://launchpad.net/~unity- team/+archive/ppa/+packages To install the unity/compiz packages I used 'apt-add-repository ppa :unity-team/ppa' then apt-get update apt-get install unity compiz. After installing these packages and rebooting, I observed that the function key for monitor-switching (Fn-F1) did not cause the video output to switch. Instead the super key seems to be consumed by Unity and the 'p' key is passed to applications - resulting in a stray 'p' being typed into whatever terminal/text box/application has focus.

[Bug 1049991] [NEW] [regression] iPhone name displayed incorrectly
Public bug reported: When I plug my iPhone into my system running 12.10, it is automatically mounted in ~/.gvfs. [Bug 993440] [NEW] No suspend option for critical battery state in power settings UI
Public bug reported: The gnome-control-center power UI offers 2 options for When power is critically low: Hibernate and Power Off. There should be a 'Suspend' option as well, for a couple reasons: 1) Some people (like me) want their computer to suspend when it reaches a critical low-battery state 2) We offer 'Suspend' as an option for the lid closed action, so we should offer it as a critical battery option for consistency (Note that neither hibernate nor power off is selected by default in the When power is critically low combobox on a fresh install. Instead the combobox has no selection at all. This is probably a separate bug) To reproduce: 1) Launch the Power settings app 1a) Observe the When power is critically low combobox; nothing is selected 2) Click the When power is critically low combobox Expected results: Suspend is an option for critical-battery action Actual results: Suspend is not an option for critical-battery action ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: gnome-control-center 1:3.4.1-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.37-generic 3.2.14 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed May 2 13:46:02 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Beta amd64 (20100901.1) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-control-center UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-01-26 (96 days ago) usr_lib_gnome-control-center: activity-log-manager-control-center 0.9.4-0ubuntu3 deja-dup22.0-0ubuntu2 gnome-bluetooth 3.2.2-0ubuntu5 indicator-datetime 0.3.94-0ubuntu2 ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993440 Title: No suspend option for critical battery state in power settings UI To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/993440/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 949296] Re: gnome-settings-daemon always prevents suspend on macbookpro5, 3
Confirmed the patch fixes the regression for me - suspend now works when I close the lid. This is apparently related to having the binary NVIDIA driver installed. gnome_rr_output_is_laptop() from gnome-desktop tries to guess whether a system is a laptop based on the output name, but the heurisitc doesn't work for the NVIDIA binary driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/949296 Title: gnome-settings-daemon always prevents suspend on macbookpro5,3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/949296/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 948844] Re: Closing laptop lid does not suspend
I've encountered the same regression in 12.04. From a bit of digging it seems it's related to the implementation of gnome_rr_output_is_laptop() in gnome-desktop. g-s-d uses this function to determine whether an output is an internal or external display; g-s-d only wants to suspend if there are no external displays in use. The problem is that gnome_rr_output_is_laptop() doesn't work properly in some cases. One case is when the NVIDIA binary driver is present; another recently-fixed case was systems with eDP panels (bug 933710). There is a patch in bug 949296 that fixes the problem for me (I have the NVIDIA driver case). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948844 Title: Closing laptop lid does not suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/948844/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 932126] [NEW] 'Media contains photos' message right-justified
Public bug reported: The buttons+text nautilus adds to windows for devices containing media is laid out poorly (see attached screenshot) To reproduce: 1) Plug in a phone or USB drive containing media 2) In a nautilus window, navigate to the device from step #1 Expected results: The Nautilus window has a message that These files are on a digital audio player with an Open Rhythmbox Music Player button, and/or a message that The media contains digital photos with an Open Shotwell Photo Manager button. The messages are left-justified within the nautilus window Actual results: The messages+buttons are right-justified within the nautilus window, which looks awkward (see screenshot). There are a couple specific problems: * There is no padding between the right edge of the message and the edge of the window, so the text is jammed against the edge of the window which doesn't match the layout of any other text * For left-to-right languages, the button comes before the explanatory text so you have to start reading in the middle of the line then jump back to the beginning of the line * There is a funny stair-step effect of buttons within the window; they are not vertically aligned to anything A better layout might be to move the explanatory text to the left of the buttons, left-justify the text, right-justify the buttons, and leave a space between the buttons + text that can expand as necessary with the size of the window. [Bug 854238] [NEW] Regression: Macbook Pro 3, 1 screen brightness hotkeys don't work
Public bug reported: The screen brightness hotkeys on my MacBook 3,1 do not adjust the backlight's brightness. This is a regression from 11.04. I have a USB Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad w/ dedicated function keys for screen brightness. These also stopped working. The kernel seems to be fine; I can adjust screen brightness from the command line: $ echo 7 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/apple_backlight/brightness This is similar to bug 849110 about keyboard brightness hotkeys (not to be confused with screen brightness hotkeys), which I've also encountered. The volume up/down/mute hotkeys on this keyboard do continue to function properly. [Bug 854124] [NEW] libreoffice-writer not default file handler for .doc files
Public bug reported: In 11.10, gedit is the default file handler for .doc files. I expected the default handler to be libreoffice-writer, which is the default handler for .docx and other filetypes used by MS Office. gedit is pretty bad at opening .doc files (at least the ones I've tried). The effect on the user is that double-clicking a doc-file fails to display the file. To reproduce: * Double-click any .doc file Alternatively: In a terminal, 'touch foo.doc touch foo.docx' Double-click each foo* file; foo.doc opens in gedit and foo.docs opens in LibreOffice. I believe this is a regression from 11.04; I first noticed it after upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10 beta 1. [Bug 849110] [NEW] Regression: keyboard backlight hotkeys no longer work
Public bug reported: They keyboard backlight control hotkeys on my Macbook Pro (3,1) no longer function properly in 11.10. This is a regression from 11.04, and I believe a regression from 11.10 beta 1. There are 3 keys on the keyboard: Keyboard backlight toggle Keyboard backlight down Keyboard backlight up In 11.04, the keyboard backlight up/down keys adjusted the keyboard backlight as expected, and the corresponding OSD notifications worked as well. The 'keyboard backlight off' never functioned properly. At some point after 11.10 beta 1, the keyboard backlight hotkeys stopped functioning properly. The keyboard backlight is no longer controllable using the hotkeys. Pressing any of the 3 hotkeys results in the 'full backlight' OSD being displayed, with no change to the actual keyboard backlight. I can still control the keyboard backlight manually from a command line. For example, to turn the keyboard backlight on to 100% then off: echo 255 | sudo tee -a /sys/class/leds/smc\:\:kbd_backlight/brightness echo 0 | sudo tee -a /sys/class/leds/smc\:\:kbd_backlight/brightness ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: gnome-power-manager 3.1.90-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-11.17-generic 3.0.4 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-11-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 1.22.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Sep 13 11:34:14 2011 GnomeSessionIdleInhibited: No GnomeSessionInhibitors: None GnomeSessionSuspendInhibited: No InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Beta amd64 (20100901.1) MachineType: Apple Inc.
