[Bug 837196] Re: Cannot change bluetooth name
Hi Mathieu, In my latest distro, Ubuntu 13.10, there is a field for setting the Bluetooth Friendly Name in the blueman-adapters panel. I think it works, at least on the system I'm using now. (However, this isn't a fresh installation, and I may have performed some work-around last year.) But this was very problematic even last year. Something like: you could set the friendly name in one place, but somehow it didn't *take*, so that other devices would still see it as ubuntu0. As always, it's immaterial to the user whose fault it is--and enough glitches like this drive users to the competition. [Bug 837196] Re: Cannot change bluetooth name
As I understand it, although many people agree it's serious * invalid according to GNOME Bluetooth [complain to your distribution, they say] * triaged according to blues (Ubuntu) * triaged according to gnome-bluetooth (Ubuntu). Does this mean, nobody will fix this, because nobody feels responsible for the problem? If not, what does it mean? [Bug 839157] Re: Bluetooth applet (OBEX send/browse) does not work since Natty (after bluetoothd 4.84 exactly)
Hi I looked at it again, this time in Ubuntu 12.10. It's still broken. HOWEVER If auto-authorize is set on the phone, IT WORKS!! The phones file directories open (in not-unreasonable time) Otherwise, you go through the process of typing in a confirmation number in the phone, then typing the same number into a dialog in Linux, and NOTHING. SO the remaining problem has to do with the authorization step. Fix this, and we'll be HALFWAY THERE!!! Because... BT file browsing is a SIGSEV on 64-bit machines. [Bug 407962] Re: gnome-bluetooth confused about on/off state of bluetooth
Hi, this is Ubuntu 12.10. I have NEVER seen the bluetooth applet properly indicate that the radio was turned off in hardware, through several versions of Ubuntu, on any of several machines on which I use Bluetooth. PLEASE FIX THIS: it would be so cool to have a nice clear visual indication that Bluetooth *should* be working. A moment ago, I turned off the hardware radios, and ran rfkill list to see that the radios were indeed off. The Bluetooth applet merrily informed me that bluetooth was working and the machine was visible. My otheer devices could no longer see it though. ALSO I would propose to make a graphical distinction between being off in hardware and in software: If it's off in harware, put a cross over or line through the icon. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-bluetooth in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/407962 Title: gnome-bluetooth confused about on/off state of bluetooth To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-bluetooth/+bug/407962/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1032355] Re: Bluetooth in system settings shows bluetooth off, indicator says on
1) I have never seeen this working, through several releases of Ubuntu. Other bugs (e.g. 407962) were posted years ago, and the bug was never fixed.) 2) The applet seems to make no distinction between bluetooth being turned off in software or in hardware. Use the utility rfkill to turn the radios on and off, and to see their hardware state. 3) It would be very good to have a clear graphical indication of whether the radio is turned off in hardware or software. I would propose to draw a line or cross over the bluetooth icon when the bluetooth radio is turned off, as well as providing a menu item saying so explicitly. Hi Mathieu, What is incomplete about this report? Let me know what other info is needed, and I'll be glad to complete it. One further observation isn't particularly surprising: I finally managed to navigate some 5 directories deep to copy some photos from the camera. Just a copy-paste from the camera to a local directory. The action took some minutes to begin (just like opening directories), but the files transferred in seconds. [Bug 1004601] Re: OBEX file browsing extremely slow
Hi Mathieu, It may well be an unfortunate interaction with Nautilus. But the image thumbnails are not the issue: I tried it on a single folder, that contained a single folder. No thumbnail. Even if there were, it wouldn't explain this effect. For comparison, I used Nautilus to navigate my hard disk file system. It's not exactly fast on this netbook, but directories with say 60 items or so (many items with thumnails) open in 2-3 seconds. As opposed to 2-3 *minutes* using OBEX. So * OBEX itself is pretty fast * Nautilus is ... not *that* slow * OBEX + Nautilus is *unusably* slow. It was not this bad in Ubuntu 10.10. Tried re-installs sudo apt-get install --reinstall bluez bluez-alsa bluez-cups bluez-gstreamer bluez-utils sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgnome-bluetooth8 pulseaudio-module-bluetooth No luck. Tried backing up /var/lib/bluetooth/, deleting its contents, re-starting. Then I paired with my phone, apparently successfully. The phone does *not* appear in the gnome-bluetooth applet pop-down menu, as it did before. It does appear in the mangled Browse Files dialog, as I described in the posting yesterday. Attempted to Browse, as in that posting, and the bluetooth-applet segfaulted, as before. So it's not the config files, and it's not the /var/lib files. [Bug 822275] Re: Bluetooth Browse files on functionality broken
Maybe related: When I pull down Browse files on device... from the bluetooth applet, the dialog is mangles: the list of devices is very very short, one can just barely see some letters. See attached. The scroll buttons kind of work, but barely. So I saw the device in the list and was able to select it. Then I clicked Browse. The bluetooth applet crashed, and disappeared from the gnome panel. [Bug 49220] Re: [Edgy] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev
Sebastian, The problem plainly has nothing to do with Adept or Kubuntu, per se. It is a package problem. It might be that I have mis-configured my repositories somehow, but besides enabling the repositories that were provided by my distro, the only repository I have enabled was the one you suggested. The bug persists, and we don't know what its root is. You seem to know something about repositories...can you look again at the ones I have enabled, and see if something is amiss? -- [Edgy] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev https://launchpad.net/bugs/49220 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 49220] Re: [Edgy] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev
Thanks Sebastian, I don't understand the relationship between the output of apt-cache policy and the repository settings. But I was configured to use edgy-security/main. I figured out what was missing: you had previously recommended edgy-updates/universe which I did, but for type 'deb' only. This made this entry unsymmetrical with the other repository entries, which had both 'deb' and 'deb-src'. When I enabled the 'deb-src' entry, I got the corrrect libgtk versions. This does then appear not to be a but with the library packages in question here, so I'll drop it. However, it appears to be a problem that a lot of people have. In my case, I have only altered the repositories carefully, and only when it was recommended that I do so. Yet it gets tangled up. But I don't know where to report this. I'll continue to think about it. -- [Edgy] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev https://launchpad.net/bugs/49220 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 49220] Re: [Edgy] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev
I'm having the same problem. There is definately something wrong with the files on one of the repositories. libgtk2.0-dev: Depends: libgtk2.0-0 (= 2.10.6-0ubuntu3) but 2.10.6-0ubuntu3.1 is to be installed This is right. I see that libgtk2.0 with the 3.1 sub-version is in fact installed, and the libgtk2.0-dev package does require the 3.0 version. $ apt-cache policy Package files: 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status release a=now 500 http://security.ubuntu.com edgy-security/universe Packages release v=6.10,o=Ubuntu,a=edgy-security,l=Ubuntu,c=universe origin security.ubuntu.com 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com edgy-backports/multiverse Packages release v=6.10,o=Ubuntu,a=edgy-backports,l=Ubuntu,c=multiverse origin de.archive.ubuntu.com 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com edgy-backports/universe Packages release v=6.10,o=Ubuntu,a=edgy-backports,l=Ubuntu,c=universe origin de.archive.ubuntu.com 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com edgy-backports/restricted Packages release v=6.10,o=Ubuntu,a=edgy-backports,l=Ubuntu,c=restricted origin de.archive.ubuntu.com 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com edgy-backports/main Packages release v=6.10,o=Ubuntu,a=edgy-backports,l=Ubuntu,c=main origin de.archive.ubuntu.com 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com edgy-updates/restricted Packages release v=6.10,o=Ubuntu,a=edgy-updates,l=Ubuntu,c=restricted origin de.archive.ubuntu.com 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com edgy-updates/main Packages release v=6.10,o=Ubuntu,a=edgy-updates,l=Ubuntu,c=main origin de.archive.ubuntu.com 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com edgy/universe Packages release v=6.10,o=Ubuntu,a=edgy,l=Ubuntu,c=universe origin de.archive.ubuntu.com 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com edgy/restricted Packages release v=6.10,o=Ubuntu,a=edgy,l=Ubuntu,c=restricted origin de.archive.ubuntu.com 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com edgy/main Packages release v=6.10,o=Ubuntu,a=edgy,l=Ubuntu,c=main origin de.archive.ubuntu.com and: $ policy libgtk2.0-dev libgtk2.0-dev: Installed: (none) Candidate: 2.10.6-0ubuntu3 Version table: 2.10.6-0ubuntu3 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com edgy-updates/main Packages 2.10.6-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com edgy/main Packages [ -- [Edgy] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev https://launchpad.net/bugs/49220 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 49220] Re: [Edgy] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev
Hi, Sebastian, This appears not to be a problem with that particular package, but here I'm looking at my Adept Manager under Manage Repositories, and I don't see anything about edgy-updates/universe. Could you tell me how to do that? Since I have only modified the repositories using Adept Manager, I am thinking this is a problem with that program. -- [Edgy] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev https://launchpad.net/bugs/49220 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 49220] Re: [Edgy] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev
Sebastian: I figured out how to add a repository in Adept. I clicked on debian-updates main restricted then clicked Clone which made a copy of that repository then I double clicked the copy's line, which allowed me to edit the fields.
