[Bug 1508146] Re: Alt+left/right arrows switch between tty consoles (Gnome Shell vanishes), cannot disable
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 520546 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520546 Is there really any reason why keyboard-configuration.postinst passes --force to setupcon? In Debian we do this in the Debian installer because it is running within a bterm and thus can't detect it's running on the Linux console. But we never do this for an installed system. Apparently Ubuntu took that code snipped and dropped the check for being running within the Debian installer, and thus erroneously run with --force when DISPLAY is empty (typically from unattended upgrades and such), with the resulting observed effects of this bug report. I guess Ubuntu wants to apply the attached patch ** Attachment added: "proposed fix" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1508146/+attachment/5227479/+files/patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1508146 Title: Alt+left/right arrows switch between tty consoles (Gnome Shell vanishes), cannot disable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/console-setup/+bug/1508146/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 221112]
I too believe that Andreas' proposal is the right one. It permits people who really want the extra 5th level to be able to easily get it, while not breaking the 99% usual usage. Just for the record, I had not seen the linuxfr discussion. I guess mostly only people who would want the extra 5th level did realize that it would steal the right control key. If a discussion happened on are people fine with making the right control key the 5th level modifier by *default*, the result would be quite different, I believe. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221112 Title: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libgnomekbd/+bug/221112/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1159866] [NEW] The find function does not correctly handle special characters

[Bug 750435] [NEW] Remote file time stamps not updated during copy-paste
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus (Possibly a Samba bug rather than a Nautilus one) When copying a file from a window opened on a remote share (using Samba) and then pasting into some other (local) location, if the file already exists the usual Cancel/Skip/Replace dialog pops up, but the timestamps reported by the dialog are not updated unless the window (to the remote share) is locally refreshed beforehand, leading the user to possibly Skip when he should Replace (when conducting an update, for example). If the file is Replaced, the timestamps are updated once the copy is completed, so at least there are no further consequences for this bug. To demonstrate, copy a file from a remote location to a local one. In the remote location, edit the file to make some trivial changes and save it. Obtain its properties and note the last modification timestamp. Back in the local location, *without refreshing the window*, obtain the file's properties. Note how the last modification timestamp has not been updated. Copy the file again and paste it again in the same local location. Note how the Cancel/Skip/Replace dialog reports identical timestamps. This caching effect can also cause Error while copying: No such file or directory if the remote file has been renamed, moved or deleted since the window to the remote share was last refreshed. Also, any application or daemon that watches the remote directory for changes will likely fail to detect them. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/750435 Title: Remote file time stamps not updated during copy-paste -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 741936] [NEW] Setting execute permission for multiple files fails surreptitiously
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Ubuntu 10.10 Using Nautilus, one can select multiple files (or folders) and obtain their combined Properties. On the Permissions tab of the Properties window, there is an Execute checkbox, which one can check (or uncheck). So I selected several files, obtained their properties, went to the Permissions tab, checked Execute and then hit Close. I naturally expected each file's execute bit to be set. Surprise: None of the files had their execute bit set. Nautilus should behave as expected and set (or unset) the flag on each selected file, *or* it should disable the checkbox to indicate its unwillingness to be helpful. (Note that changing access permissions in the same way works, by contrast) ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/741936 Title: Setting execute permission for multiple files fails surreptitiously -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 177929] Re: We need file encoding select function for zip files
I was sure I had seen someone explaining the problem as arising from xarchiver, but I seem to have been mistaken. I now understand (I'm new to this bugs.launchpad) that this bug had been assigned to multiple applications (file-roller and xarchiver). In that sense, xarchiver is possibly blameless (I'm no expert on this), the problem lying only with file-roller. I apologise for my premature over-reaction. As long as we're all agreed that the lack of Unicode filename support from file-roller is a problem... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to file-roller in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/177929 Title: We need file encoding select function for zip files -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 177929] Re: We need file encoding select function for zip files
Charlie is mincing words to get around the problem of facing the issue. The bug is valid, because xarchiver is NOT unzipping the contents of the archive: it is copying its contents to seemingly randomly-named other files. The original zipped files are NOT recovered: you get other-named files with the same content. This is untenable when unzipping a hierarchy of files and folders, or just multiple files: how is the user going to match the weird output with his expectation? He can't.

[Bug 177929] Re: We needs file encoding select function.
I can confirm the problem in a French environment : the accented characters are not dealt with correctly by file-roller (they become question marks). I'm aware that the problem lies with the zip format itself; invoking unzip directly from the command line does extract the badly named files, albeit with an (invalid encoding) comment appended to the name ---at least this way I can rename the offending files manually. The problem lies in that file-roller issues a warning about the filename not matched but then does not provide a workaround. It should at the very least propose to decompress the files using some simple substitution scheme (keeping the question marks, replacing them with underscores, anything!) or maybe prompt the user to rename each offending file on the fly. Bottom line: file-roller should decompress SOMETHING. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/177929 Title: We needs file encoding select function. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

When will it be released in ubuntu? I am using ubuntu Lucid and I still can't call through MSN with a webcam or even a microphone. [Bug 206860] Re: Floppy drive label icon changes to 1, 5 GB Media and don't go back to Floppy Drive anymore
I encounter a bug of the same kind. When I introduce my USB key (with the label KEY Thibault), the icon which appear (on the Desktop, in Nautilus, etc.) is no more the good one. (look at the screenshot). I have however another USB key which don't encounter this problem (see the screenshot attached). I'm encountering this problem since I used my key on Windows and stopped Windows before to remove it. I can reproduce this bug enough times you want to have all data. Before this event, I used to use my key with both Linux and Windows, without problems.
