[Bug 1508146] Re: Alt+left/right arrows switch between tty consoles (Gnome Shell vanishes), cannot disable

2019-01-07 Thread Samuel thibault
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 520546 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520546

Is there really any reason why keyboard-configuration.postinst passes
--force to setupcon?

In Debian we do this in the Debian installer because it is running
within a bterm and thus can't detect it's running on the Linux console.
But we never do this for an installed system. Apparently Ubuntu took
that code snipped and dropped the check for being running within the
Debian installer, and thus erroneously run with --force when DISPLAY is
empty (typically from unattended upgrades and such), with the resulting
observed effects of this bug report.

I guess Ubuntu wants to apply the attached patch

[Bug 1552852] [NEW] shares-admin does not handle spaces in paths correctly

If you use shares-admin to share a folder via NFS (Shared Folders:

[Bug 221112]

2014-05-12 Thread Samuel thibault
I too believe that Andreas' proposal is the right one. It permits people
who really want the extra 5th level to be able to easily get it, while
not breaking the 99% usual usage.

Just for the record, I had not seen the linuxfr discussion. I guess
mostly only people who would want the extra 5th level did realize that
it would steal the right control key. If a discussion happened on are
people fine with making the right control key the 5th level modifier by
*default*, the result would be quite different, I believe.

[Bug 221112]

2014-01-15 Thread Samuel thibault
Hello,

Until a solution is to be found, could 518c769d be reverted for now?
Breaking the very standard behavior of right control in all applications
(e.g. xterminals!!) is really not acceptable, compared to the few issues
that the behavior has without it.

Samuel

[Bug 1186027] Re: Items not translated in the publishing window

Sure but the strings I've noticed do not appear to be internationalized
: they are not present in launchpad, nor in transliflex where Shotwell
is 100% translated in French.

So my guess would be that there are some gettext markups missing.

- Remove location, tag and camera-identifying data before uploading

[Bug 1159866] [NEW] The find function does not correctly handle special characters

2013-03-25 Thread Thibault D
Public bug reported:

1. Tag a photo with été
2. Edit Find (Ctrl+F) and type eté (no accent on the first e)

What should happen : Shotwell finds your photo.
What happens : Shotwell does not find your photo (No photos/videos found)

However, if you type EXACTLY été, it does find it.

This issue is also true with other french characters such as À/à/A/à,
É/é/È/è, U/u/Ù/ù etc.

This issue is often annoying with capital letters as we do not often put the
accent on it.
For example one saves the tag Emile (a french surname) but will often search
faster for émile.

[Bug 1159833] Re: GIMP User installation failed on a live 13.04 USB key

2013-03-25 Thread Thibault D
Well, I just tested the last daily build on a live USB key. English language,
nothing special.
Launched the USC, installed Gimp, tryied to start it, and I got the two error
messages as stated above.
I'll try it again in a few days with a new daily build.

[Bug 1153326] Re: files saved on the desktop do not appear

Right, nautilus migt not be the one responsible for it.
My concern is that a live USB key lets one hope to Test Ubuntu, but we don't
even have access to a working desktop...

[Bug 1159883] [NEW] Wishlist : should be able to delete photo date and time

2013-03-25 Thread Thibault D
Public bug reported:

Let's say :
- You've got photos with wrong date and time, but you don't know their right
date and time, and so you want to delete their current (wrong) date and time.
- Or, you just want to erase this information (as programs sometimes erase exif
data such as GPS information, author, camera, etc.)

In the same idea as you can delete :
- tags/comments, by setting them to ,
- ratings, by setting them to unrated,
Maybe there should be an option in Photos Adjust Date and Time... not to
set any date and time.

[Bug 1159821] Re: 12:00:00 is considered as 12 PM and not 12 AM

2013-03-25 Thread Thibault D
The bug title was not accurate : I just changed it without mentioning AM
or PM.

The bug is that even if 12:00:00 seems to be correctly recorded, the
next time you open Adjust Date and Time..., the +/- menus will be
initialised at 00:00:00 instead of 12:00:00 (see the screenshot).

** Summary changed:

- 12:00:00 is considered as 12 PM and not 12 AM
+ Menus of a time set to 12:00:00 are initialised at 00:00:00

[Bug 1083805] [NEW] Information message truncated

2012-11-27 Thread Thibault D
Public bug reported:

After a successful compression, file-roller shows the following message : %s

The exact string can be found at :

Ubuntu 12.10 daily build :

1/ Open gnome-system-monitor
2/ Go to System Details
3/ See that your graphics card is not recognized : unknown
4/ Return to gnome-system-monitor
5/ Go to System software sources (software-properties-gtk)
6/ Go to the new tab Additional drivers
7/ See that your graphics card is recognized : AMD Radeon HD 6300 series

Maybe the code used by the Additional drivers tab could be used by the
details window ?

see screenshot.

[Bug 952636] Re: No GUI-based group management feature beginning 12.04.

2012-09-24 Thread Daniel U. Thibault
It's really a sad state of affairs that this bug reveals. The Linux
community seems to be disintegrating, each clan blaming the others for
whatever. Ubuntu looked like a viable alternative to the big guys, but
with flat-out failures like this one, it's beginning to look doomed.

Forget clannishness: customers want a comprehensive, working, graphical
solution. Period.

Bug management is another issue: how come GNOME bugs aren't just another
department of this bugzilla? Why isn't there a simple way to transfer
the bug to the proper bug management system?

[Bug 986848] [NEW] An error message prompts that Python (2.7) needs to install a plugin instead of Totem needs [...]

2012-04-22 Thread Thibault D
Public bug reported:

1/ Insert a DVD and open it with Totem
2/ Totem will prompt two error messages : Search for multimedia plugins and
Impossible to find the required plugin
3/ Both messages contain the following additional sentence : Python (2.7)

It is strange to see that Python needs the plugin, I would rather say
that Totem or your computer needs it.

[Bug 564072] Re: DPI is not recognized by UBUNTU, so fonts, icons and the whole system is too small

2011-05-13 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
It seems I have the same bug on my laptop with the Natty release.

I'm using a Dell Latitude D830 with an Nvidia Quadro NVS 135M. I
installed the proprietary drivers.

I try to change the resolution (in pixel) with nvidia-settings.

With 1920*1200 (native resolution) I have :
xdpyinfo | grep dime xdpyinfo | grep reso
  dimensions:1920x1200 pixels (331x210 millimeters)
  resolution:147x145 dots per inch

with 1680*1050 I have :
xdpyinfo | grep dime xdpyinfo | grep reso
  dimensions:1680x1050 pixels (290x183 millimeters)
  resolution:147x146 dots per inch

In the second case, the quality of the image was worse than with the
native resolution : can it be explained by the dpi difference 146 vs 145
?

[Bug 750435] [NEW] Remote file time stamps not updated during copy-paste

2011-04-04 Thread Daniel U. Thibault
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

(Possibly a Samba bug rather than a Nautilus one)

When copying a file from a window opened on a remote share (using Samba)
and then pasting into some other (local) location, if the file already
exists the usual Cancel/Skip/Replace dialog pops up, but the timestamps
reported by the dialog are not updated unless the window (to the remote
share) is locally refreshed beforehand, leading the user to possibly
Skip when he should Replace (when conducting an update, for example).
If the file is Replaced, the timestamps are updated once the copy is
completed, so at least there are no further consequences for this bug.

To demonstrate, copy a file from a remote location to a local one. In
the remote location, edit the file to make some trivial changes and save
it. Obtain its properties and note the last modification timestamp.
Back in the local location, *without refreshing the window*, obtain the
file's properties. Note how the last modification timestamp has not
been updated. Copy the file again and paste it again in the same local
location. Note how the Cancel/Skip/Replace dialog reports identical
timestamps.

This caching effect can also cause Error while copying: No such file or
directory if the remote file has been renamed, moved or deleted since
the window to the remote share was last refreshed. Also, any
application or daemon that watches the remote directory for changes will
likely fail to detect them.

[Bug 741936] [NEW] Setting execute permission for multiple files fails surreptitiously

2011-03-24 Thread Daniel U. Thibault
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 10.10

Using Nautilus, one can select multiple files (or folders) and obtain
their combined Properties. On the Permissions tab of the Properties
window, there is an Execute checkbox, which one can check (or
uncheck). So I selected several files, obtained their properties, went
to the Permissions tab, checked Execute and then hit Close. I
naturally expected each file's execute bit to be set. Surprise: None of
the files had their execute bit set.

Nautilus should behave as expected and set (or unset) the flag on each
selected file, *or* it should disable the checkbox to indicate its
unwillingness to be helpful. (Note that changing access permissions in
the same way works, by contrast)

[Bug 562476] Re: x-www-browser, sensible-browser and gnome-www-browser don't use the default browser

2011-02-15 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
Ok, I understand it : applications should not use x-www-browser,
gnome-www-browser or sensible-browser cause they are linked to the alternatives
which are not editable by the nomal user and it's normal the applications which
use that aren't linked to the preferred applications of the user.
So, to open an URL, these applications should use xdg-open or gnome-open?

[Bug 562476] Re: x-www-browser and gnome-www-browser not use the default browser

2011-02-14 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
I tried to reproduce this bug. I'm running Ubu 10.10 and I have Firefox
and Chromium installed. Chromium installed after Firefox.

I first set the default web browser to Firefox with gnome-default-
applications-properties.

Then I tried several command in relation with web browser.

Some of them opened the default browser I chose:
xdg-open http://ubuntu.com
gnome-open http://ubuntu.com

The others opened Chromium, that I didn't choose:
x-www-browser
gnome-www-browser
sensible-browser

The gnome-default-applications-properties should set all these command
to the default web browser you selected in.

** Summary changed:

- x-www-browser and gnome-www-browser not use the default browser
+ x-www-browser, sensible-browser and gnome-www-browser don't use the default
browser

[Bug 562476] Re: x-www-browser, sensible-browser and gnome-www-browser don't use the default browser

2011-02-14 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
Ok, it's not in gnome-control-center, but I find it's however a bug. In
fact I think this affects many application, for example, the bug #718807
in wireshark or the Help of grass (for this one I'm sure they use x-www-
browser).

I have not enough knowledge to link this bug to the good package.

Ah, and what about sensible-browser : the same than gnome-www-browser
and x-www-browser?

[Bug 177929] Re: We need file encoding select function for zip files

2011-01-16 Thread Daniel U. Thibault
I was sure I had seen someone explaining the problem as arising from
xarchiver, but I seem to have been mistaken. I now understand (I'm new
to this bugs.launchpad) that this bug had been assigned to multiple
applications (file-roller and xarchiver). In that sense, xarchiver is
possibly blameless (I'm no expert on this), the problem lying only with
file-roller. I apologise for my premature over-reaction.

As long as we're all agreed that the lack of Unicode filename support
from file-roller is a problem...

[Bug 177929] Re: We need file encoding select function for zip files

2011-01-15 Thread Daniel U. Thibault
Charlie is mincing words to get around the problem of facing the issue.
The bug is valid, because xarchiver is NOT unzipping the contents of the
archive: it is copying its contents to seemingly randomly-named other
files. The original zipped files are NOT recovered: you get other-named
files with the same content. This is untenable when unzipping a
hierarchy of files and folders, or just multiple files: how is the user
going to match the weird output with his expectation? He can't.

[Bug 177929] Re: We needs file encoding select function.

2010-12-14 Thread Daniel U. Thibault
I can confirm the problem in a French environment : the accented
characters are not dealt with correctly by file-roller (they become
question marks). I'm aware that the problem lies with the zip format
itself; invoking unzip directly from the command line does extract the
badly named files, albeit with an (invalid encoding) comment
appended to the name ---at least this way I can rename the offending
files manually.

The problem lies in that file-roller issues a warning about the
filename not matched but then does not provide a workaround. It
should at the very least propose to decompress the files using some
simple substitution scheme (keeping the question marks, replacing them
with underscores, anything!) or maybe prompt the user to rename each
offending file on the fly.

Bottom line: file-roller should decompress SOMETHING.

[Bug 602635] [NEW] Bad disk usage detection in Nautilus

2010-07-07 Thread Thibault Fevry
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ok, I'm not sure this is a Nautilus' bug, but I think so. ( This is my
first bug report.)

So, i'm using : Description: Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release:10.10
[Used lsb_release -rd ]

And my nautilus version is : nautilus:
  Installé : 1:2.30.1-1ubuntu1
  Candidat : 1:2.30.1-1ubuntu1
 Table de version :
 *** 1:2.30.1-1ubuntu1 0
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
[ It's in French, because i'm Belgian ;) ]
And according to maverick packages, it's the latest.

So How to repoduce this bug :
 - Open nautilus.
 - Go to root.
 - Properties.
 - And then the nautilus displays that the disk usage iss 128 TB. ( I just
updated ubuntu :P ). It's obviously false because my HDD is a 1TB one. ( And as
far as I know, it's working well.)

I made a screen capture, that shows this bug and perhpas another bug
related.

I'm not sure lspci -vvnn and dmesg will be usefull, but if needed I can
also post them .

I also tought that perhaps ls -lh command would be usefull but I can't
understand it.

When I introduce my USB key (with the label KEY Thibault), the icon which

I have however another USB key which don't encounter this problem (see the

I'm encountering this problem since I used my key on Windows and stopped
Windows before to remove it. I can reproduce this bug enough times you want to

problems.
