[Bug 1750146] Re: Xbox (One) Wireless Controller won't connect

2020-08-12 Thread Thorsten Schneider
Can confirm this still happens with kernel 5.8.1. While the device is
listed correctly with its full name in bluetoothctl and can be trusted,
the final pairing will not work. syslog will constantly have a
"Refusing" message for the device and the connection:

Aug 12 15:47:25 htpc blueman-mechanism: Exiting
Aug 12 15:47:38 htpc systemd[1]: Starting Stop ureadahead data collection...
Aug 12 15:47:38 htpc systemd[1]: Started Stop ureadahead data collection.

file or directory (2)
Aug 12 15:47:51 htpc bluetoothd[962]: Refusing connection from
C8:3F:26:44:17:2D: unknown device

For example an 8bitdo Arcade Stick can be paired and connected without
issues over bluetooth.

2018-08-31 Thread Thorsten
thanks a lot for the clarification, this is really helping me to
understand that! I am just a noob who wants to learn something and wants
to find the cause of a problem which annoys me. Thus, i invested some
time to dig into the problem :)

So the cause is that the MULTILINE flag is just that not set during
compilation?

tilix behavior is not broken and the hyperlink regex, which when added
causes the warning, is working. The only problem is that it is spamming
the logs with these warnings.

[Bug 1666264] Re: FFe: Update gnome-terminal to 3.24 and vte to 0.48

2018-08-31 Thread Thorsten
Hi everyone,

I don't know which is the right place to post this, but the discussion
here seems to be the most appropriate for bringing this up.

I looked more into the tilix warnings. After all, the warnings seem to be
caused by the vte lib and especially in the reverted parts.
Therefore, I downloaded the source with apt-get source libvte-2.91-0 and
printed the arguments of line 1906 which triggers the warnings.

#include (at the top of the file)
printf("arguments: %d %d %d\n", g_regex_get_compile_flags(gregex),
G_REGEX_MULTILINE,
g_regex_get_compile_flags(gregex) &
G_REGEX_MULTILINE);

So I started tilix and looked at the output:

As you can see both arguments itself are true. But why is a "bitwise and" used
in g_warn_if_fail()? Since the first is 1 and the second 2, this causes
0010 & 0001 ->  and the warning is triggered?

So what I did and propose is to replace the "bitwise and" with a
"logical or". This causes that the warning is only triggered if one of
both arguments is false. -> The tilix warning is gone and everything
seems work for me!

This line is created by the ubuntu specific patch "revert-pcre2.patch"
and in this file in line 1065

Just for letting you know which part of tilix calls this function:
In the constructor in the file terminal.d the function applyPreferences() is
called. There in the switch statement
the case SETTINGS_ALL_CUSTOM_HYPERLINK_KEY is calling loadRegex() which calls
the vte function vte_terminal_match_add_gregex 6 times and triggers the 6
warnings.

I don't know whether the new system install or the updates to apport/gdm
or something else fixed the crash reporting or whether it was just luck.

But i hope this helps to identify the issue.

2018-05-28 Thread Thorsten
okay, sry the bug still occurs just far less frequently (1 out of 100 or
so). As stated above i am now using /bin/bash as login shell but i still
cannot submit a crash file.

This time an unhandled exception occurs in the apport log
(/var/log/apport.log)

so the segfault in the dmesg was
gnome-shell[1493]: segfault at 20 ip 7fe7ecafeb17 sp 7fff5e70ba60 error
4 in libmutter-2.so.0.0.0[7fe7eca11000+156000]

but the pid 1493 was not found by apport:

[Bug 1772638] Re: segfault in libmutter-2.so after suspend/resume using wayland

2018-05-23 Thread Thorsten
okay its definitely associated with zsh as login shell. I now have >50
successful resume/suspends.

So to summarize:
- mutter crashes in 1 out of 10 suspend/resumes when zsh is set as login shell
- however, i cannot use apport to get a crash log due to zsh

-> i cannot get both apport (requires bash as login shell) and reproduce
the segfault (requires zsh as login shell)

Is there a way to still debug the problem? I am still willing to help!
>From my end it is resolved, since i just changed the login shell back to
bash and set a custom command to zsh in my terminal.

[Bug 1772638] Re: segfault in libmutter-2.so after suspend/resume using wayland

2018-05-23 Thread Thorsten
Hi,

i switched my login shell back to bash (chsh -s /bin/bash) and i was not
able to reproduce the issue in ~30 resume/suspend cycles. This is still
no valid statistic but is it possible that zsh as login shell can
segfault mutter? Of course, I will report if it occurs!

ubuntu-bug still has the problem with the old crash file, probably since
it wrongly generated or?

Thanks and sry for this non-default setup.

[Bug 1772638] Re: segfault in libmutter-2.so after suspend/resume using wayland

2018-05-23 Thread Thorsten
Hi, thanks for the answer. My problem is always something like "The
problem cannot be reported: Invalid core dump: BFD: warning
/tmp/apport_core_ersfx7ym is truncated: expected core file size >=
846290944, found: 216288" (the size mentioned after found differs.)

I found my crash to be reported at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID:

from a crash which just happened:
https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/fec4e512-5e60-11e8-90f5-fa163e8d4bab

and from yesterday:
https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/bf429442-5db2-11e8-8a90-fa163eec78fa

I did run apport-collect 1772638 and send my system information.

[Bug 1730672] Re: Proxy settings not applied system-wide, are not used by Software Update or apt

2017-11-09 Thread Thorsten Greeb
Importance: Low? Are you sure?

In environments where Internet access is only possible via proxy

- Ubuntu Software: Not working
- Software Updater: Not working
- Automatic install of security updates: Not working
- Install Languages (Language Support): Not working

I find this quite critical!

[Bug 1703415] Re: Bluetooth audio devices/profiles are missing after logging in from GDM

2017-07-25 Thread Thorsten Munsch
I can confirm this one on (X)ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS with XFCE 4.10 desktop.

The suggested fixes work for me aswell.

Another problem appears when bluetooth is disabled on boot (which I
always do because of paranoia ;)).

Both Pulseaudio modules won't get loaded by my XFCE autostart script. I
have to run it again after bluetooth is enabled manually.

Then my JBL Flip 3 speaker appers instantly in the Pulseaudio settings
besides the onboard sound device.

Everything else works like a charm.

[Bug 928293] Re: always adds a “created with the GIMP” comment to files

2012-02-08 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Thanks, that _seems_ to do the trick. As for why, when storing large
binaries in LDAP, every three-octet group is precious (we have user
photos in LDAP for perusal by the company’s Jabber server with
mod_vcard_ldap and mod_shared_roster_ldap) as there are timeouts. We
found that jpegPhoto attributes of about 4K (before base64 encoding)
work best, and more than about 8K are unreasonable.

[Bug 928293] [NEW] always adds a “created with the GIMP” comment to files

2012-02-07 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Version: 2.6.6-0ubuntu1~hardy1~andre1

GIMP always adds a comment “Created with the GIMP” to files when saving.
This is inacceptable, as it severely raises the file size, especially
when trying to use GIMP to make photos smaller to get them to fit into
space-constrained database fields or LDAP.

[Bug 877339] [NEW] Totem crashes instantly on start, freezes the whole system

2011-10-18 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Public bug reported:

When trying to launch totem or try to play a video with it, totem
crashes the system completly. There are no other options than a hard
reset (even magic sysrq isn't working). I was not able to get any
further information. When starting totem via terminal, there are no
massages before the crash occours. Totem shows up half blended (seems to
crash while fading in the window).

I'm not using Unity, instead I'm on Gnome-Shell. With Unity from a live-
usb, this does not happen. I've tested totem 3.2 from Ricotz Testing

[Bug 172416] Re: eog determines image type from filename

2011-03-01 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Still the same on Natty. When I remember this correctly, the behaviour
was another one some versions ago. It would be way better if eog would
determite the file type not by the fileextension.

This is a really nasty bug, because there are often images on the web
that don't have the correct extension. A user who don't knows about this
would possibly delete such files because he thinks the file is
corrupted.

Test this with this file:

[Bug 722281] Re: Svg Support is broken

2011-02-22 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
I'm not sure what the reason is, but after todays updates it has been
gone.

Updates:

gir1.2-gdkpixbuf-2.0 (2.23.0-1ubuntu1) to 2.23.0-1ubuntu3
libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 (2.23.0-1ubuntu1) to 2.23.0-1ubuntu3

But I'm not sure, if the Updates are the reason. After updating the
System, I did the following:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall gdk-pixbuf2.0-0
cd /usr/lib/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders
export GDK_PIXBUF_MODULE_FILE=loaders.cache
gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders --update-cache

I did this because I got a lot of error messages about a non-existing
cachefile in /usr/lib/gdk-pixbuf-2.0/2.10.0/loaders

Has this Issue been gone for anyone who only applied the updates without
making the steps above?

Yes, I'm sorry for that. It tooked awhile for me to find out the main
reason for that. The only thing I'm not sure about is the question which
package is causing this.

Installation is not an upgrade from 10.10, I've installed this version
freshly two days ago from an actual Daily-Build Image.

[Bug 722281] [NEW] [Natty] Svg Support is broken

2011-02-20 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Public bug reported:

It seems as if the support for svg-files is broken on Natty. SVG-Files
aren't shown as preview, aren't vieable with eog and aren't used as
icons. You can see this (as example) when you install synapse. Icons
that would be shown in highres normally are very blurry. Also some icons
are not shown in the main menu, instead a placeholder is used.

This would maybe also explain the glib.GError: Unrecognized image file
in Bug #722057.

This should be easily possible, even with Unity. It isn't a magic trick
to find out if an instance of Unity is running. It should be possible to
do things that worked before. Logging out to deacivate desktop-effects
is not really a solution that promises comfort.

[Bug 621719] [NEW] Option for Action on Lid-Close has been gone

2010-08-21 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

(Maverick)

On my Asus V6 Notebook, the Options for Setting an Action on Lid-Close
have been removed since the last days. The Setting doesn't exist any
longer, the Settings I've made before (go to Standby) aren't working any
longer. On Lid-close, nothing happens.

It would be really nice if this setting could be reenabled.

[Bug 618277] Re: (Maverick) 1px border around desktop

2010-08-15 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
This is not relateted to xserver-xorg-video-intel, because I don't even
have an Intel GFX-Card. I'm using an AMD X600. By the way: the Issue
goes away for a while when using nautilus -q.

So please: chage the related package back to Nautilus.

Thanks!

2010-07-24 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
Ok, this seems to be something more general. The same happened a vew
minutes ago as I tried to install the Game Dune2000:

Unable to mount DUNE2000

Error mounting: mount: /dev/sr1
already mounted or /media/DUNE2000
busy

This time I was able to click on the entry in the Places-Bar and after
that, the Disc appeared on the Desktop.
