[Bug 2023416] [NEW] Cannot import ICS into Exchange calendar

2023-06-09 Thread Timur Tabi
Public bug reported:

I am unable to import ICS invitations into my Exchange calendar, even if
they are sent by other users in my organization. I get an error dialog
box that says:

Cannot receive calendar objects: Cannot find user "tt...@nvidia.com"
between attendees

I can import the ICS into my local calendar, but then when I try to move
it to my Exchange calendar, I get a similar error message:

Cannot create calendar object: Cannot create meetings organized by other
users in an Exchange Web Services calendar.

If I open the ICS file on my Windows PC, I can import it into Microsoft
Outlook without any problems.

I'm hesitant to upload the original ICS as it's an internal meeting
invitation, but here is the header with some names redacted:

[Bug 1927948] Re: Windows switch monitor after resuming from sleep

2021-12-04 Thread Timur Tabi
Would it be possible to "lock" the monitor configuration so that even if
Ubuntu does not detect all of the monitors, it doesn't care?

I understand that one laptops and some other systems, changes in the
monitors are common. But I have a desktop PC with two monitors
attached, and that does not change.

[Bug 1878956] [NEW] Shutdown continues even after cancelled by application

2020-05-15 Thread Timur Tabi
Public bug reported:

1. Open a text editor of any kind and edit any document. Do not save
2. Initiate a shutdown from the GUI menu
3. The application will prompt you save because it's being closed. Select
"cancel" to abort the save and close. The file won't be saved and the
application will not close.
4. After a few seconds, the computer will immediately shut down, losing your
document changes.

This means that when a shutdown is initiated, there's nothing the user
can do to abort the shutdown.

What should have happened is that Ubuntu should have noticed that the
shutdown was cancelled. That's how Windows and Mac works.

[Bug 1875204] Re: .desktop files inside folders on the Desktop cannot be launched

2020-05-03 Thread Timur Tabi
The desktop-icons developer denies responsibility for this bug and says
the bug belongs to Nautilus. But you're saying that Nautilus is
removing that feature. So who's responsible for fixing it?

[Bug 1875204] Re: .desktop files inside folders on the Desktop cannot be launched

2020-05-03 Thread Timur Tabi
So I'm confused. You say it's an upstream Gnome issue. The desktop-
icons developer says it's a Nautilus issue, since Nautilus handles
folders. Issues 158 and 184 imply that Nautilus is not going to
implement anything. Everyone is blaming everyone else. So who's really
responsible?

[Bug 1875204] Re: .desktop files inside folders on the Desktop cannot be launched

2020-04-27 Thread Timur Tabi
If you're curious, here's the contents of gedit.desktop:

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Name=GEDIT
Exec=/usr/bin/gedit

Note that when gedit.desktop is located in ~/Desktop, the icon just says
"GEDIT" (which is what the "Name" field says above). However, when it's
located in ~/Desktop/TEST, it's treated like a normal file and is
labeled "gedit.desktop".

I just don't understand how Ubuntu could be missing basic GUI features
that literally every other operating system has had for decades. What
is so controversial about putting desktop icons in folders?

There so many things that I can't do with the Desktop:

1) I can't drag/drop files from the desktop to/from other folders.  Did
you notice that I had use the Copy and Paste context menus to copy the
file to the TEST folder?

2) I can't drag/drop files to applications in the launcher.

3) I can't drag/drop files from the Desktop to any open application.

The root cause for all these problems is that the Desktop is not treated
like any other Nautilus folder. It's its own special, dysfunctional
thing. This is in contrast to every other GUI out there.
