[Bug 395922] Re: Please replace the disc with a supported cd or dvd

2010-09-17 Thread Toni Ruottu
I get this error in Maverick beta while trying to read a video DVD into
an ISO image. Obviously the disc can not be unsupported as I am not
trying to write a disc. Just trying to write a file. This worked in
Lucid by right clicking on the DVD and choosing option copy disc. I
maverick there is no such option available, but right clicking on the
DVD and choosing Open With Brasero Disc Burner opens the same old
menu.

[Bug 367074] Re: nsf files imported incorrectly

2010-03-10 Thread Toni Ruottu
NSFE is a completely different format. Both NSF and NSFE have similar
sound data in them. NSF stores metadata at the beginning of the file,
while NSFE defines a set of data chunks that are stored in the file one
after the other. NSFE supports richer metadata and has greater
extendability. A good software architecture would build on the current
NSF plugin, adding NSFE capability, and then simply ignoring the fact
that NSF files can not produce all the metadata that NSFE files can.
This may be important, if the plugin is refactored to fix this bug, as
NSFE files can contain titles for each song stored in a file. At the
moment however I think there is a bigger problem in the architecture. I
think it lacks the concept of having multiple songs stored in one file.
This also hurts some other formats such as SID files used for
Commodore64 tunes.

[Bug 41335] Re: DVD playing is not working correctly with totem-gstreamer

2009-07-15 Thread Toni Ruottu
@Diane: Do you have any idea about what exactly is not working? Do some
movies work correctly?

If you are trying to watch a film protected by a regional code, it will
not work out of the box. There are approximately two solutions to that
problem.

1) install package libdvdcss2 from Medibuntu ( see
http://www.medibuntu.org/ ). It does not cost anything, but may be
legally questionable under some countries, which is why the package is
not already part of your current Ubuntu installation.

2) buy a dvd player product for your Ubuntu from Fluendo ( see
http://www.fluendo.com/ ).

In case you go with option 1, this bug thread may still be relevant to
you. However, please, note that dvd playback has improved slightly with
the latest version of Ubuntu. So in case you are using a version older
than 9.04 upgrading to the latest edition may help a bit.

[Bug 388416] [NEW] desktop background gets unset after removing the original file

2009-06-17 Thread Toni Ruottu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I'm able to change the background picture, but it gets unset as soon as I trash
the original image file that I used for setting the background image.

Steps to reproduce:
1. download an image from the internet to Desktop
2. right click on desktop and select Change Desktop Background
3. drag and drop the image from Desktop into the background selector
4. right click the image file on Desktop and select Move to Trash

Actual results:
My background gets set to the image but once I trash the file, background gets
unset again. It also disappears from the background selector making it
impossible to select it again.

Expected results:
I'd expect the background to remain as I explicitly told I want it to be.
Showing the image I originally downloaded from the Internet in step 1.

It happens every time.

I assume forcing people to keep an image file on their desktop is not
intentional.

[Bug 367074] Re: nsf files imported incorrectly

2009-04-27 Thread Toni Ruottu
I'm afraid I can't, as I don't know about an nsf file that allows
redistribution. Most of the files include sound track from a NES/Famicom
game. Those are probably abandon ware and many of such files seem to be
available at Zophar's Domain ( http://www.zophar.net/music/nsf.html ).
Rest of the nsf music is created by Demo Scene folks and is often all
rights reserved. 2A03.org ( http://2a03.org/ ) attempts to archive such
works for future generations to hear.

Having multiple songs in one file is typical with some music format's.
Most notably SID (Commodore64 music) and NSF (NES/Famicom music), where
the original works were not that separate and artificially separating
the songs from each other afterwards wouldn't make lots of sense.
Instead starting points of the songs are marked with pointers within the
file headers.

[Bug 344373] [NEW] removing columns from mail listing is too easy

2009-03-17 Thread Toni Ruottu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Dragging a column header in mail listing and dropping it anywhere, but
one of the possible positions in the heading bar currently makes the
column disappear from the table. When I'm ordering the columns I'd
expect the column to go back to it's original location, when I let it go
without taking it to any sane new location. That is how drag'n'drop
usually works. If I actually wanted to remove a column (that doesn't
happen too often) I'd be perfectly ok with right clicking on the header
and selecting remove this column.

The column disappearing is inconvenient, but I can open up the add a
column window and return it back. What disturbs me more is that some
times I actually remove the columns without even noticing. I'm an
experienced user, yet I'm still confused when things seem to disappear
on their own. My best guess is that I accidentally drop them into
emptiness while doing other things, such as ordering the table by column
or fail to click on the first email message. I'm afraid Joe Average does
that too and it might not be too easy for him to get his lost columns
back.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Workspace switcher preference window goes wild when it fails to
communicate its state with the window manager. I use xmonad and I
realize making gnome-panel applets to work with xmonad is not a high
priority for the gnome team and actually I'm mostly ok with not being
able to use the preferences dialog. What bugs me is that when I
accidentially try to use the dialog it starts opening and closing itself
in a tight loop. When I manage to click on close button of the dialog it
goes away, but usually this take me several minutes during which I have

[Bug 221995] [NEW] lyrics plug-in doesn't work together with Last.fm plug-in

2008-04-25 Thread Toni Ruottu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When testing out the lyrics plug-in for the first time I listened to a
Last.fm radio channel and the plug-in didn't seem to work at all. Then,
while a rather popular song was playing, I searched manually for the
lyrics at http://lyricwiki.org/ site. The lyrics were there. I selected
