[Bug 1946561] [NEW] tracker causes 0 bytes free in /home

2021-10-09 Thread UlfZibis
Public bug reported:

This is what I have:
Partition Ubuntu mounted in / : 20 GiB, 12 GiB in use
Partition home mounted in /home : 8 GiB, 3.1 GiB in use
Partition Data mounted in /mnt/Data : 120 GiB, 35 GiB in use
Symlink /home/me/Download  -> /mnt/Data/Users/me/Download
Symlink /home/me/Documents -> /mnt/Data/Users/me/Documents
Symlink /home/me/Pictures  -> /mnt/Data/Users/me/Pictures
Symlink /home/me/Music -> /mnt/Data/Users/me/Music
Symlink /home/me/Videos-> /mnt/Data/Users/me/Videos

/home had 4.6 GB free.
After I copied 8 GB of *.epub files to /home/me/Documents/eBooks/, I got 0 byte
free on /home after 10 minutes, caused by tracker files in
/home/user/.cache/tracker/
gsettings set org.freedesktop.Tracker.Miner.Files low-disk-space-limit 10
did not help.

It seems, that tracker estimates more space than 4.6 GB because of the
symlinks to /mnt/Data/...

Suggestions:
- tracker should not try to index DRM encrypted epub files and similars
- all tracker components, not only tracker-miner*.service, should respect
low-disk-space-limit
- tracker components should never create situations with 0 bytes free, even if
low-disk-space-limit is -1
- tracker components anyway should estimate free space correctly (not include
space from symlinks to other file systems)

Workaround:
Add '*.epub' to org.freedesktop.Tracker.Miner.Files ignored-files.

[Bug 1519059] Re: Error on accessing root trash

2015-11-23 Thread UlfZibis
I now have found out, that the root trash is working as expected, if
nemo/nautilus is started with "gksudo dbus-launch".
So if not started with dbus-launch, the error message after clicking "Trash"
should be changed to a hint, that the application should be started with
"gksudo dbus-launch".

Additionally in Nemo, the action "Open as root" should be fixed
accordingly.

2014-07-04 Thread UlfZibis
Public bug reported:

Because the resume from hibernate takes 2..3 minutes to become finished from

[Bug 1318669] [NEW] On move use same heuristics as Windows Explorer if NTFS inherit option is set

2014-05-12 Thread UlfZibis
Public bug reported:

When moving a file or folder, which inherits its permissions from its parent
folder, with original Windows Explorer within same NTFS file system, after the
move the object always inherits its permissions from its destination parent
folder in contrast to command line move, which never changes owner and
permissions.
IMO, Nautilus and also Nemo should behave same, if ntfs-3g inherit mount
option is active.

[Bug 1122424] Re: gedit saves 1 byte to much

2013-04-14 Thread UlfZibis
I'm not sure, what you think is incomplete here?
Yes, gedit adds an additional newline, even if user doesn't want it, so this is
a bug.
In case of file grubenv, it corrupts the file from being usable, as it should
not have a newline at the end.

[Bug 1122424] [NEW] gedit saves 1 byte to much

2013-02-11 Thread UlfZibis
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.10

- open file manager as root via sudo nautilus
- display properties of /boot/grub/grubenv
-- file size: 1.024 Bytes
- open file via double-click
- in gedit change 1 letter and save
- in gedit view document statistics
-- file size: 1.024 Bytes
- display properties again in nautilus
-- file size: 1.025 Bytes

This is strange I think!

2012-12-06 Thread UlfZibis
I guess the fix for your problem was available since a while.
But if you had installed it, you had gotten the bug that was fixed here.
I do not get what you mean by that?
Can you send me a german translation privately?

Have a sunny day,

Ulf

[Bug 780117] Re: Brasero finishes without error but unusable media [on-the-fly mode] (Ubuntu 11.04 -12.04)

2012-12-05 Thread UlfZibis
** Description changed:

  SRU Justification
  ~

  Impact:

Currently Brasero will fail to write files to a disc in on-the-fly
mode using the libburnia plugin resulting in 'coastered' media.
This is the default mode of operation and unless the user is writing
a pre-built ISO image, this fails 100% of the time and has since Oneiric
    -- possibly Natty.

  Fix:

Complete/fix part of the following commit:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/brasero/commit/?id=1b8397ee252df2d554682ca2d694d5937fbf6e39

Particularly the change to plugins/libburnia/burn-libisofs.c around line
200 that hoisted the priv-libburn_src-read_xt() call out of the if()
statement
- should have actually removed it instead of duplicating it.
+   should have actually removed it instead of duplicating it.

  Patch:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/brasero/commit/?id=253031b69c5dcbcf079c445ec530afb7ccd9ea82

  Test Case:

    * Insert blank CD or DVD in drive:

  (1) Attempt to write files to the writable optical disc by dragging
files from Nautilus to a blank disc.

  (2) Click on the 'Write Files to Disc' button in nautilus.

  (3) Make sure 'on the fly' mode is enabled by selecting 'Burn image
directly without saving to disc' (which should be the default).

  (4) Click on the 'burn' button.

    * If the bug is fixed, you should have a properly written and readable
disc. Otherwise, the procedure will fail and the disc will be unusable.

  Binary package hint: brasero

When I burn a DVD (4,7 and 8,5 GB) Brasero show the progressbar till
about 30-40% (exact point is randomly) and than says, that it is
finalizing the media. This finalizing messages is showing for the rest
of the burning process (~10min @8x 8,5GB). After that, it ejects the
media without any error. But when I insert the media again, nothing
happens, except, that the DVD-Drive disappears from the computer:///
  location in nautilus.

This problem only exists when burning On-The-Fly. Burning ISO Images or
automatic creation of ISO Images before burning works without problems.
The burning speed doesn't matter to this problem. I test 8x, 4x and 2x.
All the same problem. On-The-Fly burning using K3B works quite well @8x
  speed.

One thing I also notice is, that Brasero uses 100% CPU on one core,
while K3B uses just about 5-15%.

I attached the last Brasero log. I don't know, why it just says, that it
was only at 49% and then says it's finished. The burning took about 28
minutes. The media was unusable on all my three devices (Linux/Windows).

[Bug 780117] Re: Brasero finishes without error but unusable media [on-the-fly mode] (Ubuntu 11.04 -12.04)

2012-12-05 Thread UlfZibis
Hi,
today I see this new automatic update on my Ubuntu 12.04 x64 and was curiour
reading the bug report because of a similar problem.
I'm not sure, if my problem, some few days ago , has to do with the same cause.
It was the first time I ever used my Ubuntu to burn a DVD, so all settings
should have been default.
Description:
As source I used the downloaded ISO of PartedMagic from 2012_11_30.
I simply opened this with Brasero to start burning on a DVD-RW, which first had
to be erased.
After some time I saw 100% complete and something like finalizing the media
and I continuously recognized mechanical movements from the readers head.
As after 5..10 min. nothing changed, I clicked Abort.
Then shortly I saw something with successful, but I was unsure, if it was
caused by my click or if it had happened anyway.

After, the disk was unreadable, even from Windows 7.
But I anyway tried to boot from it to start PartedMagic, but it didn't work.

Please think about, if this covers the same bug or if it is a different
problem.

The downloaded ISO should have been OK, as I could burn successfully
with Windows 7 right after.

I'm wondering why Brasero doesn't have a After burning check the content
option.
This would help to avoid unexpected data loss.

2012-12-05 Thread UlfZibis
Please sorry about my error:
I was using a CD-RW, not DVD-RW, 650 MB, 4x
I'm not sure, if -format would concern here?

And of coarse on Windows 7 I used the same media and the same burner.

[Bug 780117] Re: Brasero finishes without error but unusable media [on-the-fly mode] (Ubuntu 11.04 -12.04)

2012-12-05 Thread UlfZibis
Now I tried again with just updated 3.4.1-0ubuntu1.1:
Burning took ~ 10 min. at 4x -- successful
And yes, after, a checksum test was executed automatically.
(So sorry about the noise, because I didn't find a hook to enable it. Anyway it
would be nice to have a choice for full compare)
I could boot PartedMagic successfully.
Thanks for your detailed explanations!

[Bug 656490] [NEW] Wrong screen resolution after USB-key-Startup

2010-10-07 Thread UlfZibis
Public bug reported:

I have installed Ubuntu 10.10rc using Universal USB Installer from

My IBM Thinkpad R52 has a 1400x1050 screen, but Ubuntu set it to 1600x900.
