[Bug 1100415] [NEW] git commit fails if gedit is already opened

2013-01-16 Thread Jo Vik
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open gedit
2) Go to git directory
3) Change a tracked file (file.c)
4) Execute git add file.c
5) Set gedit as default editor with git config --global core.editor gedit
5) Then git commit

Expected result:
gedit opens, user adds comment, saves the file and successfully ends commit:
[master 31c21eb] USER COMMENT GOES HERE
 1 file changed, 1 insertion(+), 1 deletion(-)

Current result:
After gedit is opened git immediately outputs following message:
Aborting commit due to empty commit message.

It's a common issue when using gedit with git; not related to Linux
distro or its architecture (x86 or x86-64)

[Bug 870805] Re: Screen dialog won't remember brightness setting

Same problem with Ubuntu 12.04 x64.

I don't think it's a wishlist or low priority bug, since it directly
affects all users. Most of us are patient, but this bug won't help
solving bug#1 (aka Microsoft market share)

[Bug 493818] [NEW] gnome-display-properties not recognising the Open nv driver or 2nd monitor

2009-12-07 Thread Vik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I have the nv driver installed due to bugs in the proprietary driver on
the bloody awful GeForce Go 7300 chipset. I Try running gnome-display-
properties and it says:

It appears that your graphics driver does not support the necessary
extensions to use this tool. Do you want to use your graphics driver
vendor's tool instead?

Curious. I'm using the Open driver, not the Nvidia proprietary one.
Click Yes and it launches the proprietary nvidia config which says:

You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X
configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the
X server.

If I click No instead, the display utility will not recognise my
second monitor.

[Bug 315162] Re: volume keys on different devices can't set different volume sliders

2009-04-28 Thread Vik
I can confirm the issue. I have Jaunty on an Acer aspire 9305 which uses
the nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio chip. When running
VoIP applications, I use a Logitech USB headset. Adjusting the volume
using the controls on the headset adjusts the volume of the laptop's
speaker (mostly I'm using twinkle as my VoIP client). Muting using the
control on the headset mutes the headset.

If I can provide any useful statistics, let me know. I'm watching this

[Bug 244631] Re: too many open files

2008-07-05 Thread Vik
The above files are producing the Evolution error

Error verifying signature
Failed to execute gpg.

to be displayed in e-mails that have GPG signatures, presumably because
it has run out of files. Evolution activity freezes with Storing
folder... and Checking for new mail on the status bar. I can still
display old messages in the current folder, but can't see anything if I
select a new one.

It took about a day of fetching IMAP e-mails for the problem to occur. I
get a lot of spam, but then who doesn't these days?

I run trackerd and tell it to scan Evolution files. Dunno if that's
relevant. ps ax appended.

Anything else I can do?

Gotta reset Evolution now so I can read my mail, but more than happy to
do further diagnostics if they'll help.

[Bug 244631] Re: too many open files

2008-07-04 Thread Vik
Will do. Just restarted, so it'll take a little while to run out of
files. Stay tuned...

[Bug 202504] [NEW] Keyboard layout always QWERTY

2008-03-15 Thread Vik Reykja
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

In hardy, the login screen is always QWERTY. As soon as I log in, it
switches to AZERTY (France) but I have to remember my password on a
foreign keyboard and that's not fun. I see nowhere to configure this.

1)
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu hardy (development branch)

2) gdm

3) 2.20.4-0ubuntu1

4) I expect to have a French keyboard

5) I get a US keyboard

** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Re: [Bug 202504] Re: Keyboard layout always QWERTY

2008-03-15 Thread Vik Reykja
Hi Sebastien. Thank you for looking at my first bug report.

I'm not sure how you think this isn't a bug. When the ubuntu installer asks
me what keyboard I want, I choose French. Then when I boot up, it's using
US and there is no way to change it. I can't log in until I figure out what
my password is on a US keyboard.

This is not a bug?

Thanks for your comments. This does not appear to be a bug report as
such. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make
more sense to raise your question in the support tracker.
