[Bug 2035016] Re: one of 3 monitors "frozen" when a window moves there

2023-09-21 Thread William Grant
Here's another journal from the boot after the one before, with the same
settings as before (I've set MUTTER_DEBUG_TRIPLE_BUFFERING=never but not
yet rebooted).

My primary display should have multiple hangs in the last couple of
minutes here. I unwisely fullscreened a YouTube video in Firefox, and
recovered by replugging my docking station. This repeated a few times,
with a LUKS unlock prompt sometimes stopping it from hanging until I
dismissed the dialog, until I hit Esc to de-fullscreen the video and
replugged one last time. I think my secondary display might also have
hung at some point during this boot, but I forget.

** Attachment added: "a journal from several single-display hangs in one
session"

[Bug 828756] Re: getting connection is untrusted warnings

2011-08-29 Thread William Grant
gabble is configured to use /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt, and
manually validating the problematic chains against that file succeeds.
So I'm pretty sure it's a problem somewhere in gabble.

[Bug 549367] [NEW] Should warn about the need for revocation when deleting OpenPGP keys

2010-03-27 Thread William Grant
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

Seahorse doesn't warn users to revoke their keys before deleting them.
It probably should, since a user may push to the key server, realise
they made a mistake generating their key, delete it, and generate
another, leaving the original key unrevoked for eternity.

[Bug 545036] [NEW] Can get trapped in gdm on user switch

2010-03-23 Thread William Grant
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I have two gdm-recognised users on my system: wgrant and buildd. If I
tell indicator-session to switch from wgrant to buildd, it brings up gdm
with only that buildd shown, and asks for a password. I can find no way
to escape from this if I do not know the user's password; pressing
Cancel just asks for the password again.

gnome-panel and nautilus 1:2.29.92.1-0ubuntu3 are fixed and on
archive.ubuntu.com. Upgrading to those will restore desktop
functionality.

To temporarily recover from a blank desktop so you can run the upgrade,
press Ctrl+Alt+T to start a terminal, and run 'gnome-panel'.

[I'm currently grepping recent binaries to find anything else that needs
to be rebuilt, so it may be a while before some other missing
applications return.]

I've completed a scan of all builds finished since the problematic cdbs
upload, and we fixed all of them in the initial upload batch. All
packages for all architectures except sparc and armel will be on
archive.ubuntu.com within the hour.

Again, please be careful when upgrading that your mirror has the fixed
versions of gnome-panel and nautilus -- look for -0ubuntu3 in the
version, not -0ubuntu2.

[Bug 425405] [NEW] Low disk space notification is a little useless

2009-09-06 Thread William Grant
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Nautilus popped up a warning dialog when my 30GB root partition had
around 2GB free. I felt that 2GB was quite enough for a while, so I
ignored the warning. 15 minutes later (after I'd scheduled a few Alpha 5
torrents), I discovered I had 0 bytes free when Transmission paused all
of the torrents.

Nautilus should definitely give a warning when there is no space left,
and should very probably give further warnings before that. The current
warning is far too far from full to be useful.

[Bug 277623] Re: [intrepid] touch pad speed reset when return from suspend

2008-11-07 Thread William Grant
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 280148 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280148

The problem was dodgy X input devices in xorg.conf - in particular,
tablet entries without the corresponding serial device actually
existing.

The touchpad setting code in gnome-settings-daemon looked for
DevicePresence notifications, and checked if they were of the
DeviceAdded type. If they were, it proceeded to reconfigure all input
devices. Setting the touchpad properties requires opening each device,
and checking if it has the right properties. When X sees a device open
request for the non-existent tablet, it revives the X device to look for
the serial device, which triggers another DeviceAdded event. g-s-d
notices this. Rinse. Repeat. Chaos ensues.

The fix for this was to dig through the xserver code and work out that I
should be looking for DeviceEnabled rather than DeviceAdded. The device
for the missing tablet never finishes initialising, so never fires a
DeviceEnabled.

Since the Synaptics touchpad driver now reports itself as being of type
XI_TOUCHPAD rather than XI_MOUSE, I also added further checks to not
even bother opening a device if it isn't an XI_TOUCHPAD.

Try ~wgrant2. Make sure you restart gnome-settings-daemon afterwards...

Erm. I need an Xorg.0.log from before and after suspend. Also check if
setting the button map manually after resuming fixes it.

[Bug 280148] Re: g-s-d needs to set mouse properties when a new device appears

2008-10-31 Thread William Grant
As people have mentioned here, I have a gnome-settings-daemon in my PPA
to fix this. We can hopefully get the patch blessed by upstream and some
Ubuntu GNOME people, and SRU it.

** Summary changed:

- After resume, ALPS touchpad fully functional, but with wrong settings
+ g-s-d needs to set mouse properties when a new device appears

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
+ Some input devices regularly disappear and reappear (for example, when
+ they're unplugged), others feel the need to disappear when the computer
+ is suspended, and yet others will decide to vanish for a little while
+ for no reason at all!

- After resume from suspend to ram, ALPS touchpad ignores settings in
- gnome-mouse-properties. According to settings, 'Mouse clicks with
- touchpad' is disabled options, but taping on touchpad produces 'clicks'.
- Enabling and disabling that option fixes the issue - until next suspend.
+ This is mildly unfortunate with input-hotplug, as the actual X devices
+ vanish as well. When they come back, they reappear with the default
+ settings. gnome-settings-daemon needs to know to reset properties when a
+ new device appears.

** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Low = Medium
