[Bug 177938] [hardy] gnome-keyring doesn't unlock ssh keys

2007-12-21 Thread Yann Rouillard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring

I used to use seahorse as an ssh-agent, it allows me have my ssh keys
automatically unlocked on login, my passphrase being stored in the
keyring.

However since last upgrades in Hardy, it stopped working.
Seahorse can't be used anymore as an ssh-agent [1] as gnome-keyring is supposed
to provide one.
This is true, SSH_AUTH_SOCK is now a socket file owned by gnome-keyring-daemon,
but this doesn't seem to work as I have to enter my passphrase each time I
login in another computer.

[Bug 118936] Re: Alacarte does not recover deleted menu items

2007-10-30 Thread Yann Rouillard
I confirm this bug too.

When an entry is deleted, an desktop file is created under
.local/share/applications with the Hidden parameter set to true.
Then this entry, alacarte is not anymore aware of this entry as it seems gmenu
never returns hidden entries.

When you revert a change, alacarte loops through the menu entries and
delete the correspond file under .local/share/applications if it
exists, but as it is not aware of this hidden entry it never delete the
file and doesn't revert the deletion.

I don't know enough gnome menus freedesktop stuff but why not:

   - simply delete every files under .local/share/applications when the
user choose revert

   - or not allow to hide (not delete) system-wide desktop entries

[Bug 157841] Re: gnome-keyboard-properties ignores default

2007-10-28 Thread Yann Rouillard
From what I see, there are 2 differents bugs at stake here:

- in gnome-keyboard-properties, no way to setup the default layout if
Separate layout for each window is disabled

If you add a second keyboard layout and disable Separate layout for each
window, the Default column is greyed out and you have no way to setup this
new keyboard as the default one.
If you disconnect/reconnect, you will see that the first keyboard layout is
always selected at first.

layout for each window is disabled

To reproduce:
  1. launch gnome-keyboard-properties

set is as the default

[Bug 13171] Re: Incorrect noexec option being used

2007-10-23 Thread Yann Rouillard
/media/cdrom0 is usually in the /etc/fstab, so the options given in /etc/fstab
will be used for mounting.
For the cdrom they are usually: user, noauto and as the user option imply
noexec, this is the reason why /media/cdrom0 is mounted noexec.

You can workaround this problem by adding the exec option in /etc/fstab.

If there are no good reason to have noexec, I suppose it's the installer
which should be fixed here as it is the one which wrote the /etc/fstab
file at install time.

[Bug 26338] Re: Adding a user to a group modifies other users' groups and passwords

2007-10-22 Thread Yann Rouillard
Ok I had some time to investigate what I discovered (in comment 68).
Still not sure if it's the cause of this bug but I am now able to
reliably reproduce a serious similar bug:

1. launch users-admin
2. create a test1 user
3. create a test2 user (with admin rights)
4. create a test3 user
5. delete the test1 user
6. delete the test3 user

Here you go, test2 is no longer in the admin groups.

I opened a bug upstream where I put a detailed explanation:

[Bug 78470] Re: switching to current logged in user freezes gdm

2007-10-21 Thread Yann Rouillard
I am able to reproduce a similar bug on gutsy:

1. System-Quit-Switch User
2. I relogin as myself
3. System-Quit-Switch User
Then black screen and I can't do anything more.

If I log on this computer from another one through ssh. I can see that gdm is
stuck waiting for the new X process.
I straced the whole process and X freezes soon after ioctl on /dev/nvidia0 and
/dev/nvidiactl, I can't even kill it.

I switched from proprietary nvidia driver to the opensource nv driver
and the bug disappeared so I think this bug is driver-related.

I was unable to reproduce it on another computer using the X savage
driver.

[Bug 26338] Re: Adding a user to a group modifies other users' groups and passwords

2007-10-21 Thread Yann Rouillard
@Renzo Bagnati: I think your problem is a different one.

Your AD users don't exist in /etc/passwd and unfortunately, the system-
tools-backend only know how to retrieve information from /etc/passwd, so
your AD users are considered invalid.

When the Users and Tools configuration panel retrieve the members of a group,
it only gets the valid ones.
When you modify the group configuration, the whole /etc/group file is rewritten
without the invalid ones as Users and Tools doesn't even know about them.

The same bug should happens with a NIS setup I think.

I think the good solution is to have system-tools-backend use the getent
command rather than parse the /etc/passwd file.
But maybe you should file a separate bug for this.

[Bug 26338] Re: Adding a user to a group modifies other users' groups and passwords

2007-10-21 Thread Yann Rouillard
I maybe have found something in system-tools-backend which could explain
this weird bug.

system-tools-backends looks at the line number instead of the group name to see
if a group have been deleted/added/modified.
Just look at the set function in
/usr/share/system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/Users/Groups.pm

I won't go into details but this behaviour works correctly only the
first time.

If you launch users-admin, delete a group and then create a new user
(with a new group), system-tools-backends will try to delete another
group and will try to rename several groups (which fail because the
target group name already exists).

/usr/share/system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/Users/Users.pm seems to
behave the same.

I am not sure this is the cause of this bug, I still don't see in what
conditions it could trigger this bug.

[Bug 140968] Re: System don't ask to empty Trash when unmounting NTFS partitions

2007-10-20 Thread Yann Rouillard
According to the the fs_data structure in
libgnomevfs/gnome-vfs-filesystem-type.c, trash should not be used on NTFS
filesystems.
This is why no Empty trash dialog box is showed, gnomevfs thinks there can't
exist a trash on such system.

So the bug is rather that a Trash is created on the volume which is supposed to
not support it.
I don't know yet where the error lies.

However, I suppose that the No trash on NTFS setting was ok when ntfs was
only read-only. Now a Trash can be created on such a filesystem.
So a quick workaround on this bug is to enable ntfs trash usage which what the
attached patch does.

I put updated gnomevfs2 package including this fix in my personal package
archive if someone want to test::
http://ppa.launchpad.net/yann-pleiades/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gnome-vfs2/

[Bug 106621] Re: Gnome Trash doesn't show deleted files on ntfs-3g partitions

2007-10-20 Thread Yann Rouillard
As unggnu commented in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-vfs2/+bug/140968 (or
rather it's the same origin behind these 2 bugs).

I don't think fuse is the problem as, from what I saw, the filesystem is

The upstream bug for this issue should rather be

2 patches have already been given (including one of mine) but they haven't yet
