[Bug 1614593] Re: gimp freezes at end of cage-base transform

2021-02-08 Thread Zach Bloomquist
Apologies for double-posting, but in fact, the currently available
`gimp` snap has the same issue as the OP. It sometimes works for the
very first usage of the cage transform in a session, but thereafter, all
warps have weird holes and glitches.

I tried all the PPAs, snaps I could find, but only the Flatpak of GIMP
worked for me, so if anyone is running in to this on 20.10 try that.

[Bug 1614593] Re: gimp freezes at end of cage-base transform

2021-02-08 Thread Zach Bloomquist
This is a pretty major feature of GIMP, and seemingly such a simple
change to revert to address this issue, but it is 2021 and this was
opened in 2016 and not fixed. What's needed to move forward on this?

/puts on tinfoil hat

Perhaps this bug is still open because Canonical wishes for folks to use
the `gimp` snap instead, where this bug does not occur.

2017-11-10 Thread Zach Moazeni
I also have a Thinkpad X1 Yoga and I'm getting these errors in Artful. I
read somewhere that shutting off this `systemctl stop iio-sensor-
proxy.service` stops the log, and it appears to work for me.

You can't disable it directly but I read somewhere that you can replace
the systemd unit to noop instead of starting the service.

[Bug 857710] Re: File selection by typing is buggy sometimes

2011-10-19 Thread Zach
The Oneiric-proposed update partly patches the issue, but a number of
issues that have been complained about still remain.

The good:

The search box no longer disappears after the second character is
entered.

The bad:

The search box still remains (for 5 seconds) after hitting enter and
entering the directory searched for. To reproduce this, go to home
folder and type 'Doc', then hit enter to enter the Documents directory.
The search box still remains for around 5 seconds. This is particularly
annoying if you want to enter a string of directories, having to wait 5
seconds after entering each one, before being able to use typeahead.

The ugly:

How does one clear an error typed in the search box? The usual method
was to use the backspace key, but this now takes us to the parent
directory. Reproduce by going to home folder, typing 'Dox' and trying to
correct the 'x' type by hitting backspace.

The search box doesn't always clear its contents upon
disappearing/reappearing. I haven't found a way to specifically
reproduce this yet, but it's happening almost randomly (or so it would
appear). The box has disappeared and, upon reappearing, there's
sometimes the contents of the last search remaining in there - and you
can't use backspace to clear it because of the above problem.

[Bug 775131] [NEW] Cannot make external HDMI monitor the default monitor

2011-05-01 Thread Zach Pfeffer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I have a System76 Lemur Ultra Thin laptop with an external HDMI monitor
connection. I'm able to plug in my HP Compaq LA2405wg monitor via a DVI to HDMI
converter and, using gnome-display-properties.

I upgraded to 11.04 from 10.04.

I used to be able to turn off the Laptop screen and the HP screen would
become the default. When I do that now both screens go blank (I have the
power manager set to blank the screen when the lids closed but the
system is on AC power.

When I click on the HP screen in the GUI and click Make Default I get a
pop up that says:

Authentication is required to install multi-monitor settings for all
users. etc...

The details say:
polkit.subject-pid: 1804
polkit.caller-pid: 2396
Action: org.gnome.randr.install-system-wide
Vendor: GNOME Monitor Preferences

I authenticate and it says that those will be the defaults when the next
user logs in.

I log out and log back in and the laptop screen is still the default.

[Bug 657071] [NEW] text edit area does not have focus on file open

2010-10-08 Thread Zach Hoeken
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

After opening a new file from the sidebar, the text editing area does
not automatically get focus. This is not exactly a bug per-se, but it
is a usability aggravation.

For example: when opening a file to edit, one of the most common first
tasks is to search for some text. With the current gedit behavior, when
I do a ctrl+f, it opens the find file dialog. It would be really nice
if it opened the text search dialog. On my old 9.04, 9.10, and 10.04
installs, opening a new file and searching would search the file itself.

PS. I love gedit and I use it daily for my dev work. Its the kind of
usability bug that would make things much nicer for me if it were fixed.

[Bug 644403] [NEW] Nautiuls File Operations dialog does not handle hard links correctly when calculating size

2010-09-21 Thread Zach Shepherd
Public bug reported:

The attached screenshot shows the reported total file size of 993.7GB
(it has sense climbed past 1500GB). The output of df (below) reports the

[Bug 223146] [NEW] Internet time updates sporadically

2008-04-27 Thread Zach Banks
Public bug reported:

When the clock is set to Internet time, it appears to update every
second. However, since a centibeat != a second, the clock appears to

[Bug 34233] Re: g-p-m failing to use DPMS to power off display

2008-03-30 Thread Zach
I've got the same problem here. My output from `gnome-power-manager
--no-daemon --verbose` looks almost identical to hirak99's.

This is with a fresh install of 8.04 beta. I did see the monitor turn
off once, but never again. Now it stays on all night. `xset dpms force
off` will properly turn off the monitor, and `xset dpms 0 0 600` turns
it off after 10 minutes, just like it should. Of course, every restart
or change to GPM causes xset to be turned back to all 0s.

[Bug 10686] Re: No GUI method to disable screen lock on lid close event

2008-03-14 Thread Zach
I think this has been made more complicated than necessary. I think the
problem is this (at least it was for me when i submitted aduplicate of
this bug):

A user closes his laptop and when he opens it again he has to unlock it
with his password (regardless of whether suspend was used or not). He
thinks gosh this is obnoxious. How the heck do I stop the screen
locking whenever I close the lid? And then after exploring around a
bit, (1) he realizes that disabling screen lock in screensaver
preferences doesn't do the trick, and (2) in power management
preferences there are options for what to do when the lid closes, but
none of them are related to screen locking.

It would be nice if somewhere there was an option that says when i
close the lid don't lock the screen. Whether to activate the
screensaver or go straight to suspend is not really the issue, because
the power management prefs already let you choose from blank screen,
suspend, hibernate, or nothing.

[Bug 10686] Re: No GUI method to disable screen lock on lid close event

2008-03-12 Thread Zach
I was able to accomplish the behavior by setting values in gconf-editor
as you described above (I'm not sure if it was that exact key or
another). This does serve as a useful workaround. However, the title
of this bug is No GUI method to disable screen lock... so yes the bug
is that there is no GUI way to set this.

[Bug 120723] windows should raise on click-release not on click

2007-06-16 Thread Zach
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Inactive windows should raise on click only after the click is released.
Currently they raise on click before the click is released.

This is a usability problem.
Use case:
A nautilus window containing a file to be copied/moved is open. A second,
active, nautilus window containing the destination folder is open and partially
overlapping the first. If you click and drag the file from the inactive source
window, it shouldn't raise to obscure the foreground target window.

With the current behavior, the user must make sure to drag the source
and destination windows apart so they are not overlapping in order to
ensure the destination will not become obscured by source.

The intent of a click cannot (click and drag vs single click to raise)
is ambiguous until the click is released. The current behavior assumes
any click in an inactive window is intended to raise the window.

By way of comparison, both Windows and OS X exhibit the raise on click
and release behavior.

[Bug 33762] Re: Appletouch trackpad unbearably slow

2007-04-06 Thread Zach
Not sure if this should be a separate bug due to different architecture,
but on 7.04 i386 beta, this behavior is exhibted on macbook core 2 duo.

This is a departure from previous feisty releases, where the trackpad
was overly sensitive.

[Bug 40426] Configure Login Manager crashes X

2006-04-21 Thread Zach Tibbitts
Public bug reported:

Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
in the gdm login screen, one of the menu options is configure login manager
clicking on it prompts for a password, after which nothing happens
so, i set a root password with sudo passwd and entered that when it prompted
me. this time, it began to work, but immediately crashed the X-server. future
attempts produced the exact same result. this needs to either be fixed, or have
the option removed, as IMO it isnt very neccesary, esp considering that it
needs a root passwd to work
