[Bug 1635802] [NEW] Rhythmbox: podcasts did not work in Yakkety Yak

2016-10-22 Thread aanno
Public bug reported:

Rhythmbox: podcasts did not work in Yakkety Yak. It has worked in before
(i.e. in Xenial Xerus), hence it is a regression.

To reproduct:

* Add a podcast URL of your choice to rhythmbox (try
http://www.deutschlandfunk.de/podcast-nachrichten.1257.de.podcast.xml if unsure)
* Use the update button
* Click on the episode, download it (right mouse button - context menu)
* Try to hear (by double click or by adding it to the playback list)
* The error occurs:
  * Expected behaviour: The podcast is played.
  * Current behaviour: Nothing happens. Rhythmbox is unable to play the podcast.

 Status: Unknown

[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates

2014-05-18 Thread aanno
Well, IMHO bluetooth is one big mess in ubuntu. I'm using a BT headset
for nearly 7 years now, and it has NEVER worked without some quirks.

Even this would be OK for me, but the quirks differ not only between
releases but also between updates. Hence you can never be sure if the
headset will work on any day... (BTW, why the hell we are STILL sitting
here with the legacy Bluez 4.x stack? I guess an upgrade to Bluez 5.x
could not make the state of affairs more encumbering.)

The one and only good news that I've got that I SUCCESSFULLY USED MY BT
HEADSET YESTERDAY (17.05.2014) on an up-to-date ubuntu 14.04/trusty.
This is trick/quirk that made things work:

> pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover

Given that, there are a couple of ticket out here that points into this
direction:

At present, I could only speak for kubuntu/kde. The problem is gone when
using 'Radiance' as 'GTK2 Theme'. However, if I understand the KDE guys
right, this simply means that libglib is NOT used. Per consequence the
error cannot occur...

[Bug 1241101] Re: Java crash in libglib-2.0 after upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10

2013-11-14 Thread aanno
Dear sirjoseca,

I rechecked this carefully. For me (as a Kubuntu/KDE user) using

export UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=''

and afterwards starting eclipse makes things A LOT better but the
problem does NOT go away. I've still got spurious Java VM crashes, most
commonly with SWT 'cancel' buttons. But I have to admit that this is
relatively rare.

However, with

System Settings -> Application Themes -> GTK -> Choose GTK2 Theme

and choosing 'Radiance' instead of 'oxygen-gtk' the problem is gone
COMPLETELY.

2013-11-13 Thread aanno
Dear Hugo,

thank you for your prompt response. Notice that I've reported the bug to
(a) the distribution and (b) eclipse. Just to be very explicit: The bug
_only_ occurs with the oxygen-gtk2 theme. If I use the 'Radiance'
theme, everything is all right. Please also notice that a java crash
dump does contain many information that are of significance for C/C++
developers, including a (symbolic) trace to the root problem.

[Bug 1245468] [NEW] libglib2.0-0 (2.38.0-1ubuntu1) causes eclipse/swt to crash

2013-10-28 Thread aanno
Public bug reported:

Newer Versions of libglib2.0-0 (2.38.0-1ubuntu1, saucy salamander, aka
13.10) causes eclipse/swt to crash.

This is bug is triggered from an 'official' eclipse install. I haven't
tried the eclipse that comes with ubuntu because it is not what a
professional java programmer needs.

Observed behaviour:
- Eclipse regulary crashes (see included VM dumps). The bug is normally trigger
by hitting a SWT Button (e.g. Search -> File Search -> Cancel Button).

Expected behaviour:
- libglib2.0-0 in saucy should work without any issue against a 'offical'
eclipse/swt.
