It seems that echo N /sys/module/video/parameters/brightness_switch_enabled does help when decreasing the brightness, but when you increase it still goes up in 2 step. i can confirm this bug in my karmic install Simple use case for reproduce : $ touch /tmp/test $ nautilus /tmp/ You will see the u1 synced emblem in the test file but obviously u1 client has nothing to sync from my /tmp.
