[Bug 164298] Re: Print to file should say Export as PDF instead of Print to File

2011-09-25 Thread antistress
@Timothy Arceri (t-fridey) : I understand your point but note that the
problem remains that print to a file doesn't make sense since printing
involves a paper sheet. Export or Save is understandable, Print isn't

maybe it could be completed, i.e. keep unmount word but make it

- keep unmount and make some pedagogy (is it the right place to make use of

[Bug 482654] [NEW] Open With... functionality in File Roller should lead to a submenu instead of a dedicated window

2009-11-14 Thread antistress
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

File Roller (like Eye of GNOME, Nautilus etc.) provides a useful Open With...
functionality through contextual menu.
But unlike other GNOME applications, it doesn't lead to a submenu displaying a
choice of applications but requieres to open a dedicated window to choose the
application which is far less practical

See screenshots attached : current File Roller which opens a dedicated
window vs Nautilus which handles this through menus

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386

[Bug 325973] Re: gnome-session keeps respawning nautilus when no desktop is drawed

2009-10-12 Thread antistress
The only reason why I turn off the nautilus desktop is that i don't like the
desktop metaphor (whereas I like the Netbook Remix way for instance).
All my files are managed through a proper Nautilus window with a navigation
toolbar and sort display options.
Therefore i turn off the nautilus desktop to not have useless options like a
contextual menu for creating folders on the desktop etc. Because i like
consistency. I don't like having useless things. As you can see my reasons are
essentially intellectual and for me i must admit that the bug is minor

[Bug 221112] Re: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard

2009-10-08 Thread antistress
Sebastien : adding a space with the mouse is not trivial
You have to open a document with spaces in it, then use right-click to copy
paste the space each time you want to add another word separated with a space
to a sentence.
Of course it's possible but...
The space bar is largely used on a day-to-day basis and not having it working
prevents the user to write text with its computer. Not a minor bug for french
users, honestly

[Bug 275320] Re: Reset size with ctrl+0 from num block for eog nautilus

2009-09-10 Thread antistress
Considering recent bug fix in Epiphany 2.27.92, it looks like that bug could be
related to applications themselves.
Therefore i add Nautilus and Eye of GNOME to that report since both have a menu
entry for size resetting that points out to ctrl+0 shorcut.
I don't add Evince since i didn't see a similar entry in its menu therefore i'm
not sure that ctrl+0 is supposed to be a shorcut (which could be a lack of
consistency through GNOME but this would be another bug)

[Bug 407621] Re: (design decision) Icons missing from context menu , dialogue buttons , firefox bookmark favicons

2009-08-28 Thread antistress
maybe i'm wrong but i believe that i would be more easier for the user if icons
already display in the toolbar would be in also in menus
It would help users to find stuff
i.e i don't know in what menu is X. But X isquite similar to Y which is in the
toolbar. Let's find Y in menus and i'll surely find X

Besides, while looking in menus for something that is not in toolbar,
user would not lose time reading entries that already are in the toolbar
since it would be clearly identified in menus thanks to their icons
already display in the toolbar

what do you think ? why not displaying in menus icons already shown in
toolbars ? By showing icon in toolbar and text in menu for the same
thing, you don't facilitate things to the user!

[Bug 382626] Re: Nautilus location bar toggle icon implies unrelated function

2009-08-04 Thread antistress
concerning c#23
Letters should not be framed : button already provides a frame that makes 2
frames, unless you want to imitate a keyboard key like suggested in c#14
See mockup attached : either show a letter, or a key but not something between

Anyway, since current icon is not so bad, i don't think we should change it
unless we find a really great icon.
Changing a not so good nor so bad icon for another not so good nor so bad icon
would be a bad idea

2009-07-18 Thread antistress
* About the Search button/field :

Danielsan474 said (comment 114) :
instead for Search (icon + Search label) we could have an input text field.
We don't need to click on a search-icon, open a windows or whatever and digit
some text; we could write directly on that field. If Joe wants more, could open
an extended search window if needed...
It would be a giood idea to save consistency through GNOME applications.
GTKFileChooser already has a good UI for Search : an entry in the sidepane that
replace the location field with a saerch field. We should do the same.

mac_v (comment 121) : Moving the the Search button away from the other
doesn't seem a good idea to me in terms of usability

* About the location button :
Marcus Carlson : the location perfectly works, i don't think it should be
removed

everybody here seems agree to say that Home and Computer should be only

Besides i've never find the Nautilus Search UI to be intuitive. It's very hard
to understand as far as i'm concerned.
Maybe the only Search button/entry effect should be to launch a dedicated
application (gnome-search-tool today (or a GUI for Beagle/Tracker), Zeitgeist
tomorrow for instance) ?

Marcus Carlson :
1°) at present time, using mouse whell forszooming in or out is rather
intuitive since you only have to point zoom buttons and to use mouse wheel. No
need for combination : keyboard (ctrl) + mouse (wheel)

2°) When i said please send another mockup with text under icons to see how
your idea behave in all configurations. Is the location bar still visible ?
i wanted to say : to see if there is enough space on the only toolbar to
display both big buttons with text under (=default setting in GNOME Ubuntu)
and Location Bar on the same row
thanks in advance

for those who want to remove zoom buttons, did you notice that you can change
the zoom factor using the mouse wheel on them ? It's very practical.
Besides, considering the zomm factor, Nautilus display more or less information
in icon view : folder name or folder name + content or folder name + content +
date
It can be useful

[Bug 382626] Re: Nautilus location bar toggle icon implies unrelated function

2009-06-24 Thread antistress
A few suggestions :

1°) why not a T icon, like these usually find to express something related to
font stuff ?
(something like
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/wowwiki/images/thumb/e/e0/Icon-font.svg/120px-Icon-font.svg.png
 )
2°) considering that the function is close to a CLI/GUI choice, maybe a prompt
icon without the black screen (
http://gigapple.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/terminal_icon.png?w=240h=240 )
3°) maybe a mix of both
4°) since text mode can be seen like an advanced user feature, the icon usually
used for advanced options could fit 5°) something related to a keyboard icon or
a few keys (
http://icons.iconseeker.com/png/fullsize/tulliana-2/keyboard-layout-3.png )

Personally i like 2°) 3°)

For the record, here is a Dolphin (KDE's file browser) screenshot ;
Dolphin with Ubuntu theme (to focus on GUI's elements et not on theme)
http://blog.rom1v.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/dolphin-gnome.png
(default nautilus : http://launchpadlibrarian.net/27797607/default_nautilus.png
)

You may want to align the location bar with Places to gain some space
without messing up the whole GUI.

Small/Big icons can be set in GNOME preferences so that's not a problem.
Let big icons by default for the average user. Advanced users can reduce
theme.

[Bug 386150] Re: Nautilus file browser toolbar is complicated, redundant, and ugly

2009-06-20 Thread antistress
Here are mines :
1. Place all shorcuts in sidebar (i.e. Computer) - no shorcuts in toolbar.
2. Don't replace the Location Bar with Search field it seems confusing to me
(note that GTKFileChooser acts in a similar way but not exactly and i find
GTKFileChooser to be less confusing than Nautilus i don't know why)
Maybe a permanent Search Field could replace Home, Computer and Search buttons ?
3. Let the Location bar distinct : it allows to display large paths
4. Organisze the side bar : see
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=508404
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=576587#c20

considering my comment 40 i changed my mind
finally it's logical to have the search field replacing the location bar since
there is no location to display when doing a search (by definition)

Therefore here are my suggestions :
1. fix Bug #57210 (already done!)
2. Let the Location bar distinct : it allows to display large paths
3. Organize the side bar : see http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=508404

[Bug 275320] Re: ctrl+0 doesn't reset icon size within Nautilus, EoG etc (Intrepid)

2009-04-26 Thread antistress
i'd like to check if we're saying the same thing :

when i say ctrl+0 is not working i'm speaking of the 0 key that stands on
the numeric keypad
whereas the number key that can be accessed in combination with the shift key
works (ctrl+shift+à on a french keyboard)

Therefore i'd like to be able to set the zoom factor with the numeric keypad,
keying ctrl++, ctrl+- and ctrl+0.
