I got the same issue at the GDM. GDM uses X with nvidia driver and also
uses Yaru cursor theme, which wasn't present in my system.

[Bug 1925766] [NEW] extensions disabled after upgrade

2021-04-23 Thread Anton Piatek
Public bug reported:

I updated yesterday (I think), and after a reboot today all extensions
were disabled.

I went to the gnome-shell extensions website, ticked to enable my
extension and it toggled on. The extensions did not seem to work. I
reloaded the page and they are off again. I clicked enabled, still
nothing. Reload page and all are off.

I check logs in journalctl and could see nothing relevant.

Eventually a bit of searching suggests enabling via gnome-shell-tweaks,
so I open that up and they're all unticked, and disabled (can't be
ticked). I realised there's a global "enable extensions" tickbox which
has been unticked. Enabling this fixes everything.

I have had to do this in the past, several months back as I had forgotten until
now.
Something is disabling this on upgrade and it is not obvious from the
extensions web-page that they have been disabled.

Ideally they should not be disabled at all, but if they are at least
there should be some more obvious feedback after upgrade and on the
extensions website

[Bug 1916464] [NEW] Regression: auto-update notification and GUI doesn't allow installing updates without restart

2021-02-22 Thread Anton Keks
Public bug reported:

Linux is great and famous for being able to install most updates without
Restart.

However, recently Ubuntu started showing only "Update & Restart" button

[Bug 1916460] [NEW] Regression: upgrading of 3rd-party deb packages no longer works in GUI

2021-02-22 Thread Anton Keks

I can confirm the problem. Upgrade was from 18.04 to 20.04 and 4th

daily. Not all icons disappear. Suspend and wake up retruns icons to its
original place. Usually it happens when I save a Libre Writer document
and close the Writer. Let me know if I can help further and how.

[Bug 1767654] Re: [Intel Braswell] Cursor gets stuck on left side of the screen

2020-07-12 Thread Anton Panduru
@Bob Lawrence (pilotbob42)
So i'm back with a better workaround.

First I enabled the intel driver like I specified in my first point.(this
removes the tearing)
Then I used your workaround, but this was causing the other inputs to error at
startup so I on some forum that adding a command at startup applications is a
better solution.
So i added:"xrandr --output HDMI-3 --mode 1920x1080 --scale 0.x0." as a
new command in Startup Applications.

[Bug 1767654] Re: [Intel Braswell] Cursor gets stuck on left side of the screen

2020-07-03 Thread Anton Panduru
@Bob Lawrence (pilotbob42) I don't have .xprofile but i created it my
home folder like you suggested and added the text, mine was HDMI3.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to do anything.

I also observed that changing the DPI solves the issue on most distros I tried.
But i don't like any other DPI than 100%.

Also in regard to the workaround posted by me changing to DRI 2, mostly
solves the issue on gnome on POP OS, still a few mouse trails but it is
bearable.

[Bug 1874567] Re: [nvidia] Rotating secondary monitor to portrait fails, results in landscape

2020-06-21 Thread Anton Matosov
Hello folks. I experience this issue with my three monitor setup (two of which
are vertical) using NVIDIA Drivers 440.82 on PopOS 20.04.
Monitor layout works with xrandr/arandr and if I hand craft manitors.xml,
configuration is preserved. I have posted my details here
https://github.com/pop-os/pop/issues/933#issuecomment-643681670

But GUI doesn't work.
Also after recovering from suspend layout explodes again.

I would be glad to help with investigation, collecting logs, traces, etc
(feel free to DM me).

[Bug 1873592] [NEW] GIMP icons are tool small on HiDPI display

2020-04-18 Thread Anton Keks
Public bug reported:

GIMP has introduced HiDPI support a while back and provides Icon Theme
in the settings.

I have a 4K display set to 2x scaling.

GIMP starts by default with tiny icons (Guess icon size from resolution
in Preferences).

If I change this to "Use icon size from the theme" - the icons get a bit
large, but still too small to see properly.

Then, there is "Custom icon size" settings with available choices of
Small/Medium/Large/Huge.
>From these choices, Medium get the largest (but still small icons), where both
>Large and Huge are the same as Small.

Is the problem with Large/Huge icons not actually shipped?

[Bug 1848228] Re: Impossible to unlock because keyboard language doesn't switch

Workaround:

Alt-F6 to switch to a text terminal
   login there
   sudo pkill -9 gnome-screensav
F7 to switch back to GUI

The screen is unlocked.

Note, even

   pkill -9 gnome-screensav

should be enough I think (wihtou sudo), because I saw gnome-screensav is
run from the same non-root user. Maybe even

   pkill gnome-screensav

But I the tested variant is `sudo pkill -9 gnome-screensav`, I haven't
tried the simplified variant.

[Bug 1848228] [NEW] Impossible to unlock because keyboard language doesn't switch

2019-10-15 Thread Anton Vodonosov
Public bug reported:

My password has latin characters. When my keyboard is switched to
russian, after screen is locked, it is impossible to unlock.

The screensaver lock screen has a language indicator and allows to
switch the indicator. But it's still impossible to unlock. I believe the
real keyboard layout doesn't switch, only the indicator switches on
screen.

Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS

[Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly

2019-05-21 Thread Anton Alexandrenok
I have a similar issue:

Ubuntu 19.04
Gnome 3 + Wayland
2 input sources (en-US and ru-RU)
"Allow different sources for each window" is on

When I alt-tab windows, their input sources may randomly change.
Moreover, sometimes when I lock the screen even login screen's input
method may change too.

[Bug 1821126] [NEW] Leading zero in "Programming Mode -> Binary" inserts extra zeros

2019-03-20 Thread Anton Slooten
Public bug reported:

This bug is about inputting data in "Programming Mode -> Binary mode" in
the gnome-calculator snap.

1)
Description:Ubuntu 18.10
Release:18.10

2) - Its the default snap - so I guess this?

gnome-calculator 3.32.0+git2.cae338ea 352 stable/…
canonical✓ -

3)
When inputting data in binary format, you should be able to lead with an
arbitrary amount of zeros. When accepting the input (by pressing enter, or
clicking equals) the answer should be the value you entered (less the leading
zero)
01001  = 1001
010101001  = 10101001

4)
I you lead your input with zeros and input more than 2 digits (with an obvious
'1' being in there) there is a large quantity of inserted zero's in the output,
obviously making the value totally different to what you input.

For instance the input:
01001  = 11
010101001  =101011

However leading with a 1 produces the correct result:
1010  = 1010

The obvious answer is do not lead with a zero. But monkey see monkey do
when inputting data.

I faced once with the same problem after installing evolution-ews.
But after I've tried to add account 3-4 times and it worked.
I removed unnecessary accounts and left the only one.
But there is another problem. Evolution hangs and freezes

[Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2015-08-27 Thread Anton
Tested with mainline kernels

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

On the most recent kernel v4.2-rc8-unstable problem persists (lsusb hangs,
MTP/ADB do NOT work)
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.2-rc8-unstable/

On kernel v3.17.8-vivid no problem (lsusb is instant, MTP/ADB DO WORK)
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.17.8-vivid/

On kernel v3.18-rc1-utopic the problem appers for the 1st time (lsusb hangs,
MTP/ADB do NOT work)
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.18-rc1-utopic/

to install, download deb and run
sudo dpkg -i
linux-image-3.17.8-031708-generic_3.17.8-031708.201501081837_amd64.deb
the new kernel item will go to grub menu

So, the regression was added to the kernel during v3.17.8-vivid -
v3.18-rc1-utopi transition. Someone who is competent could try to make a
diff or something.

Aslo, as a side note, it seems that on 3.16/3.17 kernels 2 other annoying
problems from the default Ubuntu 14.04 installation with kernel 3.19 are gone:
- mouse cursor did disappear for some time almost after desktop load, then
appeared with no visible reason
- keyboard switcher could stop working at some random moment for some time and
randomly returned back to life

This may have the same source in hanging usb subsystem which may block
mouse/keyboard calls in some way for some time and then return.

[Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2015-08-27 Thread Anton
Ok, I have found a workaround solution, at least for my case - just
downgrade the kernel to 3.16 (default version on 14.04 is 3.19). With
this kernel lsusb returns result instantly and MTP/ADB work reliably,
nautilus shows Android on connect/reconnect immediately, ADB shows
device and does not hang etc.

Just click on linux-signed-image-generic-lts-utopic (linux 3.16.0.46.37)
package in Synaptic (or sudo apt-get install linux-signed-image-generic-
lts-utopic). It should go to grub menu automatically, but one may want
to enable showing grub menu during boot like described here
http://www.howtogeek.com/196655/how-to-configure-the-grub2-boot-loaders-
settings/ . This should not affect installed system, with grub you will
be able to choose which kernel to boot.

So, now I have on Ubuntu 14.04 with older kernel 3.16 MTP/ADB work
$ uname -a
Linux anton-hp 3.16.0-46-generic #62~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 11 16:27:16 UTC
2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

On Ubuntu 14.04 with default kernel 3.19 MTP/ADB do NOT work
$ uname -a
Linux anton-hp 3.19.0-26-generic #28~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Aug 12 14:09:17 UTC
2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

OpenSUSE 13.2 live (reported to work in the above post) also has kernel
3.16, by the way.

Another option would be to try newer mainline kernels (did not check them yet):

[Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2015-08-27 Thread Anton
Even more funny, with kernel 3.17 Firefox stopped hanging the on the
page I have linked above http://www.howtogeek.com/196655/how-to-
configure-the-grub2-boot-loaders-settings/ (on kernels starting from
3.18-rc1 the whole application would hang after few seconds during
loading this page).

This looks like offtopic, but probably would help to track the original
problem. I would think of a hang/freeze problem in some kind of
messaging subsystem inside the kernel, which would give unpredictable
random hangs in visually different and absolutely non-connected parts of
the system (firefox/keyboard switcher,MTP/ADB devices).

[Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2015-08-27 Thread Anton
I have a bit more info here. I have Ubuntu 14.04 (15.04 all the same)
running on HP Envy m6 laptop + Android YotaPhone1 and have all listed
problems with MTP/ADB here: the connection is unreliable (works 1 of 10
or does not work at all). None of the suggested solutions (using mtp
tools or killing gvfs processes) helps.

Same phone connects just fine (MTP/ADB) on Windows 8 on same laptop and
on some 2year-old OpenSUSE on another comp.

What I have noted is that lsusb hangs (even when the phone and other
devices are disconnected) for a couple of minutes before showing the
result (mtp-detect also hangs rather than shows error), so it gave me an
idea that this might be a hardware problem and I have made some tests.

I take 2 laptops HP Envy m6 and Sony Vaio and 2 live CDs Ubuntu 14.04
(15.04 all the same results) and OpenSUSE 13.2 live with gnome.

1) HP Envy+Ubuntu 14.04 (15.04) - both live and installed:
- lsusb hangs (shows result after few minutes)
- MTP/ADB extremely unreliable

2) HP Envy+OpenSUSE 13.2 gnome live:
- lsusb shows immediately
- MTP works just fine (most likely ADB would work too, but it is not installed
on live system)

3) Sony Vaio+Ubuntu 14.04 (15.04):
- lsusb shows immediately
- MTP works just fine

So, I have one laptop where Ubuntu 14.04 (15.04)+MTP/ADB does NOT work and
OpenSUSE 13.2+MTP DOES work and another laptop where Ubuntu 14.04 (15.04)+MTP
DOES work. The MTP/ADB software problem 100% correlates with problem with lsusb.

This is most likely (definitely) hardware+software combination problem.
And this problem most likely not on GVFS/MTP layer, but on lower layer
with lsusb/kernel.

I will run more tests and make more investigations on my hardware, if
someone points me further what I should do.

Attach some system output from OpenSUSE 13.2 gnome live (MTP works):
uname -a
lsmod
after connecting the phone:
dmesg
lsusb
lsusb -t
lsusb -v
lsusb -D /dev/bus/usb/003/003

[Bug 1304534] [NEW] Backspace doesn't remove utf-8 multibyte characters

2014-04-08 Thread Anton Statutov
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 13.10 backspace in terminal only deletes one byte of multibyte
character.

For example:

# cat /tmp/test
tыbackspacet

# cat /tmp/test
tt

# hexdump -C /tmp/test
74 d1 74 0a

Where 'ы' is a russian letter (D18B in hexadecimal form). You may see
that only second byte of multibyte character was deleted by backspace.

I saw similar problem for ssh, but it's not the case. Here I'm not using
ssh, just normal Terminal session.

[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10

2013-12-05 Thread Anton Statutov
@Norbert
Ubuntu 12.04 was not more stable then 12.10 or 13.04. It's even not claimed to
be more stable by Canonical, as it's just long term support. Many applications
of older versions aren't usable for real tasks. I can name some examples. GIMP
2.6 (from 12.04) has no layer groups support, so it was completely useless to
open PSD-files. OwnCloud 5.0.4 (also from 12.04) has some deal-breaking bugs
and known vulnerabilities, making it completely unusable. And the same for
ownCloud client. LibreOffice 1.3 is one more example, it's not usable on some
complex files. We use OS not for itself but for applications, so LTS is not a
solution at all. In other words we need stable base system and fresh
applications, but there is no such a choice for Ubuntu.

[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10

2013-12-04 Thread Anton Statutov
UPD: ok, m17n partly works. It doesn't work only in Kate on my computer
(but works on nearby computer with exactly same configuration). Also
there are some side effects in some applications like Thunderbird: if
you type symbols in it then Ctrl+Z will revert all symbols one by one
(this is not correct behavior).

Offtopic: I really don't understand Ubuntu's team politics. What the
reason to rewrite and completely break such a essential functionality as
layout switching in stable release (and force users to update to this
release)?

Now UI let's me set it to Control R, but it does not switch layout at all.
It does not let me set Alt+Shift displaying this shortcut as Shift+Alt+Next
Group.
Does not let set two shifts.
Ctrl+Alt does not switch layout if set.
Super+Space does not switch layout and type space in the editor.
Caps Lock does not switch layout if set.
Only Ctrl+Space works.

Actually I can reproduce it easily with Eclipse with new mouse. In project

moving mouse to the right fast (just a little shake of a hand is enough with
sensitive mouse) and you get menu highlighted and auto selected fast. Not sure

The problem still exists in precise (12.04), that is more than 5 years

[Bug 1159452] Re: unable to print entire pdf for some files in evince

2013-03-24 Thread Anton Kanishchev
** Description changed:

Pdfs from the web (varying size , from 100kb to 60-80 MB), print
  absolutely fine.

However printing of generated pdfs does not work-- only prints first 2
pages, and then one blank page for the rest.

If it makes any difference the pdf was exported from gummi (latex
editor), it shows up fine in evince but prints only 2 pages.

The printer is an hp8600 n911a

  prints all other files ok.

[Bug 1152949] [NEW] videos do not play full length, total time not correct

2013-03-09 Thread Anton Kanishchev
Public bug reported:

Happens with all sorts of video files, although mp4 dont seem affected.

Steps to reproduce
1- open a video file , e.g. .VOB .MTS etc
2- open with totem video player

3- video length much shorter than actual length.

For example totem shows total video time of 15 seconds where the actual
video length is 40 seconds.

Workaround--- VLC does not seem to have this problem

[Bug 1104798] Re: Keyboard shortcut for search has changed.

2013-01-29 Thread Anton Schleef
Well, I found out what happened, as I stumbled upon both the problem and
the fix just a couple minutes ago. Apparently gedit lets you edit what
the keyboard shortcuts for commands are, and the help files doesn't say
a thing about it (I did look for such a feature, and I didn't find it).
How you do that is if you hold Alt+'underlined letter of menu' (F for
File, E for Edit, V for View, S for Search, T for Tools, D for
Documents, and H for Help) it opens the menu and then you can either
press the underlined letter for the specific command you want or use the
arrow keys to navigate through the menus. If you have a command
highlighted you can press 'Backspace' to erase the existing keyboard
shortcut (if it has one) and then you can input a new keyboard shortcut
for it. I was just doing some rapid fire pasting (Yes, I still use the
alt shortcuts for that rather than the others.) and hit 'Backspace'
twice before 'Escape' to exit it and then a bit later noticed I'd
inadvertently erased and changed the shortcut.

Good news, it isn't a bug, but an undocumented feature that caused the
problem. Bad news, despite the rather long list of people watching this
bug I accidentally found the fix myself, and what exactly was happening,
before anyone who might be involved in creating updates for gedit was
able to post what the problem was.

As a moderate request, could it get expedited that the feature gets
added to gedit's offline help files? I don't know if it'll make a
difference for anyone else, but I doubt it could hurt.

[Bug 1104798] [NEW] Keyboard shortcut for search has changed.

2013-01-24 Thread Anton Schleef
Public bug reported:

Okay, this very day (and I mean literally within the past 24-36 hours,
most likely the lesser since it was less than 24 hours ago I last
updated) the keyboard shortcut for the Search (Find) function in gedit
has been changed. It is no longer Ctrl+F like it always has been. In
fact, when I open up the Search menu and go to the line for Find it just
lists 'A' for the keyboard shortcut. I was using the previous shortcut
as recently as yesterday, and I tend to use that specific function on a
fairly regular basis (not daily, but on days I use it I may use it a
dozen or three times).

I highly doubt I'm the only person to be having this problem, but I'm
not seeing a mention for it here yet so I'm reporting it.

I am currently using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, with gedit 2.30.3.

[Bug 1104798] Re: Keyboard shortcut for search has changed.

2013-01-24 Thread Anton Schleef
I just took a look through the help for gedit, which still lists the
keyboard shortcut for Search (Find) as 'Ctrl+F', and then was looking
through some of the other keyboard shortcuts, and in the Edit menu the
only thing listed for Paste is 'Z', although it's official shortcut is
'Ctrl+V', which does still work. It's starting to make me wonder just
what other bugs small bugs are in there and haven't been noticed, but I
don't use it heavily enough to make it worth the effort for me.

I will state that I typically use the keyboard shortcuts such as 'Alt+F'
to open a menu and then hit the underlined key for a specific item, the
find function is the only one I normally use the 'Ctrl+' shortcut for,
as that one's the same for all programs, but the menu it's listed under
may differ.

[Bug 410636] Re: Right-click should not pre-light first option, too easy to accidentally select the first Context-menu option.

2013-01-06 Thread Anton Veretenenko
Moving menu some pixels away does not fix an issue. Like Aditya Sharma
mentioned right-click and release act as 2 clicks.
And I can confirm that if you keep moving mouse to the right while
right-click+release then you get menu entry selected at a 100% rate.
I use Eclipse and when right-clicking on project in project explorer I many
times get open new window auto selected. I do right-click+release then menu
appears some ms after then menu disappears and new window opens, I even don't
get highlighted menu entry to show.
My vision of fixing this issue is to disable second click event on release if
some defined very short delay not reached.

[Bug 954824] Re: artist information pane is too large and cannot be sized smaller

2012-03-28 Thread Anton Piatek
Still seeing this on 2.96-0ubuntu3
Additionally the whole window cannot be resized (horizontally) very small. I
suspect this is linked with the width of the panes in it not being able to go
any smaller.

[Bug 954824] [NEW] artist information pane is too large and cannot be sized smaller

2012-03-14 Thread Anton Piatek
Public bug reported:

The pane/window in rhythmbox which shows related artist information (see
attached screenshot, the pane is highlighted in pink/red) often resizes itself
to be too large. While the pane can be dragged left to make it larger, it often
isn't possible to drag the bar right to make it smaller.
Not sure what other helpful information I can give...
It isn't always too large, sometimes it is possible to resize it so that it is
quite small, but then on a later song it resizes itself (presumably to fit new
content) and becomes too large, and can't be made smaller again.

[Bug 885730] Re: keyboard layout indicator reacts incorrectly

2012-03-03 Thread Anton Belyaev
This might sound stupid and out of topic, but this bug was the last straw for
me to migrate from Ubuntu to MacOSX.
I survived Unity migration, but not this tiny bug.

[Bug 934343] [NEW] ICQ: encoding error while moving a buddy from the group to another one

2012-02-17 Thread Anton Zaviyalov
Public bug reported:

I'm russian and using ICQ. If a try to move a buddy with cyrillic
nickname from the group to another one, nickname turns into symbols. For
example, nickname Влад turns into Âëàä (see below the video
description).

In ICQ account settings the encoding is set to cp1251 (Windows-1251
Cyrillic), the messages are okay.

[Bug 250517] Re: gvfs performs slowly on bulk sftp transfers

2011-12-14 Thread Anton
Still here on Oneiric, unfortunately.
This bug means for me that a remote backup over gvfs (using Simple Backup)
takes hours, where it could be done in less than half an hour.
It also means, I cannot play back video from my moviebox over wireless - the
higher latency drops throughput below what is needed for continuous playback.
I cannot believe that this issue has been around since Intrepid and not being
fixed!
