[Bug 1249231] [NEW] Evolution locks up occasionally if multiple accounts are scheduled for retrieval

2013-11-08 Thread apinunt
Public bug reported:

I use Linux Mint, currently ver 15, 32 bit, Mate Desktop, and since Ubuntu
changed the default email app from Evolution to Thunderbird, I cannot retrieve
email from each of my accounts automatically and have to request them manually
one at a time.
I had them scheduled to retrieve on a staggered time interval, but when the
interval allows more then one to attempt retrieval at the same time, evolution
hangs and has to be killed manually and restarted.
The only way around this I've found is to manually select the account I wish to
retrieve, and wait for it to complete before selecting another account manually.

Is there some way to schedule retrievals so they will not occur
simultaneously for more than one account?

** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-06-24 Thread apinunt
Could this be a handshake/timing problem?
I've experienced this problem on 3 different computers, a 15 yr old IBM
ThinkPad notebook, a Compaq notebook with a Celeron 560 CPU, an HP desktop with
a dual core E5300 CPU, and noticed that the IBM was most affected and along
with the Compaq unable to play a video file off the NAS, the HP was less often
affected and could sometimes play a video off the NAS as long as I did not
advance the slider several minutes into the video. I just replaced the old IBM
notebook with a Samsung NP700G7C having a quad core i7-3630QM CPU and have yet
to be affected by the problem, able to transfer more than 36GB of files from
the NAS without a problem and able to play videos directly off the NAS without
locking up.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-05-16 Thread apinunt
This problem may be more serious than I previously thought. Moments ago
I moved a 254MB file from my desktop computer to a network drive, and it
seemed to transfer instantaneously. The file was deleted on my computer
and when I looked at the network drive the file name was there, but the
content was 0 bytes. The file was lost and the work to create it will
have to be redone from scratch. Now it appears I can no longer trust
moving files and will need to copy them and verify they are identical on
both the source and the destination before manually deleting the source.

Is there a Linux distribution unaffected by this bug? If it is not going
to be fixed I'm willing to change to another OS as I can't work without
confidence that my files are secure when I move them to a permanent
storage for others to access.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-04-02 Thread apinunt
Wouldn't it be nice to have a single place to report bugs? After going
to the https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=gvfs site,
creating a login and trying to figure out just how to use it to report a
bug, I felt the time would be better spent living with the bug and
hoping that it will eventually be cleared.

I'm about to purchase a new computer, and usually I complain loudly
about being forced to purchase a preinstalled MS OS which I have always
previously deleted once getting the computer home. If this bug and the
several others I've been trying to get resolved unsuccessfully, continue
to linger, and the MS OS does not have the same bug, I may begin to
consider the MS OS a blessing rather than wasted money. Some of us have
to produce results with our computers, and although I've worked with
unix all my life, making Linux a more desirable OS, I can live with a
Windows OS until Linux can produce a less buggy 'stable' upgrade.

Sorry if I seem to be frustrated, but the disappointments are beginning
to escalate reducing productivity greatly.

If someone was to create a bug report on bugzilla, please provide a link
to it here, and I will add to it if that will help.

[Bug 880657] Re: stuck retrieving emails from IMAP

2013-02-13 Thread apinunt
Same here too, beginning after an upgrade which changed Evolution to
version 3.6.2

I have about 8 different email accounts and found that the numerous
"fetching mail" and "retrieving POP summary" notifications at the bottom
of the screen which keep me from viewing my mail can be eliminated by
clicking on the "Send/Receive" down arrow, and pointing, but not
clicking on any of the choices it provides. All the "fetching mail"
and/or "retrieving POP summary" messages then disappear and I can then
view my emails, and I can retrieve new emails by using "Send/Receive"
and clicking on each account individually. The accounts are set up with
a staggered interval of time between downloads in an attempt to not try
and access them simultaneously.

My Yahoo account is and always has been set to IMAP+.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-02-05 Thread apinunt
Same problem her, and I have to use xkill to kill everything.
Previously when I mounted an NAS drive I had an entry in /home/$USER/.gvfs
showing the content. After installing Mint 14 /home/$USER/.gvfs no longer shows
the NAS drive connected, but instead I find it appears in both
/run/user/$USER/gvfs AND in /var/run/user/$USER/gvfs, with /var/run being a
link to /run. Why this change? And is this change in any way related to being
the cause of the problem?
In my opinion, this is a very serious problem.

Why is /home/user/.gvfs no longer used and instead

[Bug 60448] Re: .xsession_errors file grows out of control & saturates disk space

2009-12-03 Thread apinunt
It appears that the .xsession-errors file creates anew after each

enormous size file can be eliminated by rebooting twice, but what is
causing the file to grow needs to be determined and fixed otherwise the
problem recurs. I think my problem has been found to be playing video
files and the driver for my video card, ATI Radeon Mobility M6 LY, is
not properly supported under Ubuntu 9.10, although it was previously

Something else I found which may have some relation to the problem,
looking at my system which did not have the problem, I found
/usr/share/gnome/default session exists, while the system with the

I'm not sure if this file should be necessary or not. In any event I
think this needs to be looked into further, but I'm not sure who's

problem, I think an abundance of problems such as this is what turns
many people away from Linux. I've spent several hours a day for a couple

are primarily related to the OS installation. Below is the content of

[Bug 72468] Re: Trash looks empty, isn't

2008-12-19 Thread apinunt
There appears to be several variations of the Trash problem, and it's very
difficult to get any technical information which might be helpful . I would
still like to know what code performs the test that decides which icon should
be displayed, and it appears Gnome and Nautilus do so independent of each other.
After my initial installation I gathered and saved the output from a few
commands one of which was "env", and now after resolving my problem I notice 2
environment variables have changed, although their initial values would not
have led me to believe anything was wrong. You might check them first which you
can do by typing "env" in a terminal.
The 2 values which have changed are DESKTOP_SESSION and GDMSESSION. Initially
they displayed "default", which I assumed was "gnome" in Ubuntu and would be
"KDE" in Kubuntu. Both are now displaying "gnome".
Good luck, and if I can provide any info that might help, just ask as I'll stay
subscribed to this thread for a while to see if any additional light is shed on
how the Trash icon works.

[Bug 72468] Re: Trash looks empty, isn't

2008-12-19 Thread apinunt
I seem to have stumbled across the cause AND solution to my icon problem. After
applying the current recommended updates I had to reboot the system, and at the
login screen I decided to look and see if the Options at login had changed from
7.04 ubuntu. Under Sessions I was offered to use the previous session or change
to another. Although I assumed that I had been using Gnome, I selected Gnome
anyway, and was then asked if I wished to make the change permanent as I had
previously been using Xclient. I was unaware I had been using Xclient and had
not been given a choice previously to select it, but once the Desktop came up I
immediately noticed the Trash icon was showing full, and is now displaying how
many items are contained in the trash when I point to it.
In my case this problem is now cleared, and perhaps some others may benefit
from what I found?

noticed the trash icon displayed an empty icon after having deleted a number of
personal files.
The icon displays a notice "No items in Trash" when pointed to but right
clicking it shows the option to Empty trash active. Both left clicking the icon
and right clicking the icon selecting the Open option open Nautilus displaying
the files which reside in the trash directory. Additionally, the Nautilus GUI
displays a Trash-full icon, and using the bottom panel icon the Empty trash
results in the trash being emptied after which Nautilus displays a Trash-empty
icon.
Googling for help turns up similar problems going back to 2005, none of which
provide any useful answers. Could this problem be given a little more
attention, and if I could provide any additional information that might help I
am available 24/7 as I retired from AT&T over 10 years ago and life is short.
Linux is definitely NOT unix, but much more useful than WinXP/Vista.
