[Bug 1321655] [NEW] best fit fit width missing from view menu

2014-05-21 Thread avdd
Public bug reported:

Before 14.04 evince had best fit and fit width in the view menu,
allowing me to toggle these with keyboard shortcuts.

These items have disappeared and now I have to mouse to the zoom menu on
the right to select these options.

Please reinstate or otherwise make these available as keyboard
shortcuts.

Also, stop just removing things. (directed at gnome not ubuntu)

[Bug 807854] [NEW] applets change position with lock

2011-07-08 Thread avdd
Public bug reported:

I have one panel on the bottom, much like windows. I have applets on
the right side, clock, sysmon etc and they tend to switch places on
session restart and screen resolution resize (external monitor), even
though I have selected lock to panel. I have to manually unlock,
reposition, and re-lock each applet.

In reporting this bug, I found three marked invalid but the comment
indicates it is a duplicate, without a link to the proper bug:

#211148

Re: [Bug 67476] Re: Dialogs of background applications pop up in the foreground

2010-05-09 Thread avdd
Quoth Octavio Alvarez (2010-05-09 15:08):
I think it would be a security risk, as an application might
continuously take away the focus from any application.

No, I think the model Greg is proposing is essentially this: the
current focus is a privilege that at most one window may have. To
have it, it must be explicitly granted by something else, such as
the panel launcher.

Having this non-stealing and focus stealing prevention stuff
is doing it backwards.

I do wish these things would be thrashed out at freedesktop.org or
similar to get some standards around user interface expectations
and behaviour. It's about time we got some real user interface
standards instead of all this making stuff up and/or blindly
following the leader/competition.

[Bug 445084] Re: click-to-focus window is too sensitive

2010-02-01 Thread avdd
problem persists in karmic.

no compiz, just metacity.

steps to reproduce:

1. open 2 gnome-terminals
2. move and/or resize so both are visible
3. run a 'ls' a few times in each to get a variety of characters on each
4. click-to-focus between the two terminals a few times, and notice that doing
so often selects whole lines, etc.

I don't think click-to-focus should pass the click to the window the
click is focusing in general.

Re: [Bug 328961] Re: don't steal focus, ever

Quoth Thomas Thurman (2009-03-05 01:47):
What would you like to see happen when you type this into a terminal?

 zenity --error

According to your suggestion, the dialogue will appear but remain hidden
 behind the terminal.

1. That is exactly what actually happens,

2. That is exactly what I would want to happen, because

3. mixing modes in this way (console to GUI) is very broken.

If I'm busy typing away and some other process decides to show an
error in this way, I would likely miss it because I've been typing
and happened to press 'enter' at an inopportune moment.

Never, ever steal my focus. It's just rude. Knock before

[Bug 326734] Re: display sometimes does not update after enter key

I cannot find a fixed sequence of steps that reliably reproduces this
behaviour, but heavy use of a terminal (ie, fast typing) will reliably
and frequently produce it.

Try this:

alias l='if [ $_l ]; then ls -l; _l= ; else ls -C; _l=1 ; fi'

then repeatedly enter
l
l
l

[Bug 326734] [NEW] display sometimes does not update after enter key

2009-02-07 Thread avdd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Release: intrepid

Occasionally the gnome-terminal screen does not update after pressing
the enter or return key, regardless of the application running (eg,
bash, mutt, python).

This may be the same as or related to bug #279993 (Display bug in
terminal with cd and ls in quick succession) but reported here as
the behaviour is observed in more than just the shell.

The bug usually manifests itself, as in the above bug, as the display
failing to update after a command is entered into an interactive console
session, such as bash or python. A further keypress updates the screen.

Just now it occurred to me using mutt: I press enter to select a message
and the screen did not update. Entering another keystroke did cause the
screen to update, but as that message was smaller than the screen, the
previous screen (the message list) was still showing at the bottom.
Switching to another window and back caused the screen to be updated,
and so I cannot attach a screenshot.

I am using compiz with custom settings (and don't want to turn it off
because I lose my settings and don't know how to get them back).

I too am using nvidia driver.

Nothing relevant in .xsession-errors.

[Bug 213778] [NEW] Ctrl-PgUp/Ctrl-PgDn tab cycling (like with Shift)

2008-04-08 Thread avdd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

When using Shift-Ctrl to move tabs, the tabs cycle around (move from
last to first and vice versa), but without the Shift-key this does not
happen.

I would like to be able to cycle around when I have a large number of
tabs open, instead of having to move sequentially.

Gutsy, gnome-terminal 2.18.2-0ubuntu1

** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
