[Bug 2042823] Re: Login blank background (gray) after update
Indeed when I unplug the TV HDMI, the login screen appears. Additionally (awesome :D) my HDMI audio is also working with this update! Indeed I have my TV plugged in as well (even though it is not turned on) via HDMI. That sounds like a plausible bug indeed. [Bug 2023322]
(In reply to Thomas Zajic from comment #56) > Is this the same bug that is being discussed here? No, because the problem here is specific to GTK 4 and has been around for years. That is, since you didn't have this problem with 2.40, this bug is not your bug. [Bug 2025662] [NEW] mutter pauses for multiple seconds at random times
Public bug reported: Hi, I have this weird bug in mutter (44.2-0ubuntu1) which seems to correlate with uptime - if I kill mutter the problem seems to go away for a few days, although killing mutter is very inconvenient because all applications are also killed even with session persistence. Upon strace analysis it can be seen that when the pauses are happening there is a specific trace involving GEM operations happening immediately after a ~1 second epoll expires. During this state the entire UI is paused - video does not update, mouse cursor does not move, keypresses have no response. However, input events are "queued" so that when the pause ends, the mouse instantly warps across the screen, and if a key was down at the time the pause began, the key is repeated hundreds of times since it seems that the key-up event is only processed when the "pause" ends. The system is up to date 23.04 and mutter is using the Intel HD 530 integrated graphics. I do not believe this issue happened before 23.04 was released, although it has been intermittent and persistent since that time. Attached a strace with timestamps which provides an example of a multi- second pause. Using grep -A1 epoll_wait you can see the instances of the GEM operations during the pause. Eventually at around 09:40:57 local time in the trace the "pause" ended. Example of an instance of the GEM operation trace after a ~1 second epoll timeout: [pid 686436] 09:40:54.750468 poll([{fd=3, events=POLLOUT}], 1, 5) = 1 ([{fd=3, revents=POLLOUT}]) [pid 686436] 09:40:54.750719 epoll_wait(8, [], 256, 671) = 0 [pid 686436] 09:40:55.422886 ioctl(11, DRM_IOCTL_SYNCOBJ_DESTROY, 0x7ffce0975140) = 0 [pid 686436] 09:40:55.423213 ioctl(11, DRM_IOCTL_I915_GEM_EXECBUFFER2, 0x7ffce09751d0) = 0 [pid 686436] 09:40:55.423525 ioctl(11, DRM_IOCTL_I915_GEM_MADVISE, 0x7ffce0975098) = 0 [pid 686436] 09:40:55.423642 ioctl(11, DRM_IOCTL_SYNCOBJ_WAIT, 0x7ffce0974ef0) = 0 [pid 686436] 09:40:55.423876 ioctl(11, DRM_IOCTL_I915_GEM_MADVISE, 0x7ffce0974fec) = 0 [pid 686436] 09:40:55.423971 ioctl(11, DRM_IOCTL_SYNCOBJ_CREATE, 0x7ffce0975100) = 0 [pid 686436] 09:40:55.424218 writev(45, [{iov_base="#\221\360s\0\0\0\0\2\0\0\0\204\v \4\3\0\200\3s\213\0\0\243\v \4\244\v \4", iov_len=32}], 1) = 32 [pid 686436] 09:40:55.424471 writev(45, [{iov_base="#\221\360s\2\0\0\0\1\0\0\2\204\v \4\3\0\200\3r\213\0\0\376S\340\252\37\2\0\0\311uf\0\0\0\0\0", iov_len=40}], 1) = 40 [pid 686436] 09:40:55.424810 poll([{fd=3, events=POLLOUT}], 1, 5) = 1 ([{fd=3, revents=POLLOUT}]) [pid 686436] 09:40:55.425150 epoll_wait(8, [], 256, 0) = 0 These pauses are often 10-15 seconds in length but can also be much longer. [Bug 1828107] Re: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1
Xubuntu 22.04.1 after upgrading from 20.04 In order to get multiple Windows 10 systems to "discover" the samba shares on two different Xubuntu systems, I had to re-enable SMB1 protocol on all the Windows systems. Microsoft apparently keeps disabling this on system updates. As reported above, old Windows mapped drive assignments made to Ubuntu samba shares have continued to work over time, but new shares cannot be seen unless SMB1 is enabled. of course, this should all just work using newer secure protocols. For a significant piece of server software, the fact that this hasn't been addressed long ago is a real mystery. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1828107 Title: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/1828107/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thanks for getting back to me. So a question to ask *Brasero's bad read attempt spoiled the two ASUS drives until they got a power-off-on cycle. If the drive is built into the computer this means a power-off-on cycle of the computer, i fear* What does doing a power off/on cycle entail ??? Disconnecting the Drive and computer from power and replugging it in or something more complex ?? On Sat, Mar 12, 2022 at 5:30 PM Thomas Schmitt <1964...@bugs.launchpad.net> wrote: > Hi, > > C. Hi Thomas; Thank you very much for getting back to me. So will try to answer your questions. Some of which may be delayed due to me having to run test. *- What is the vendor, model, revision of your drive. You may obtain it from the empty drive by* xorriso : NOTE : Disc status unsuitable for writing Drive current: -outdev '/dev/sr0' Media current: is not recognizable Media status : is not present Drive type : vendor 'ASUS' product 'BW-16D1HT' revision '3.10' *- Do you experience the problem with CD-R or CD-RW media ? If so:* * - What happens if you use a writable DVD medium instead ?* * - Does it help to blank the CD medium before using it with Brasero:* * xorriso -outdev /dev/sr0 -blank as_needed* Will Run these test shortly and get back to you with the results *- Do you experience the problem with other GUI programs like K3B or Xfburn ? - Do you experience the problem with a run of xorriso ? ISO="...path.to.your.iso.image.file..." xorriso -as cdrecord -v dev=/dev/sr0 blank=as_needed "$ISO"* Have not tried K3B or Xfburn. Did try Nero for Linux and had the same result as I did with Brasero. Thank you very much for the assistance. Talk shortly. [Bug 1828107] Re: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1
Regarding my previous comment, disregard the issue about Windows 10 having problems accessing the Samba shares. This turned out to be a strange password problem with samba. Resetting the user's password to the same value that it already was immediately cleared the issue and all windows machines could once again see the shares.
[Bug 1828107] Re: gvfs can't list shares from smb servers that disabled SMB1
Just to add another voice to the crowd, I'm on Xubuntu 20.04 and I just ran across this problem myself. I am using the Nemo file browser, but the same thing occurs with Nautilus and Thunar. I didn't notice the problem for a long while because I had three legacy Windows machines on the network (all running Windows 10 at this point) and had made file browser bookmarks to the important shares long ago. These bookmarks have continued to work to this day without issue. I got a new Windows 10 machine a few weeks ago and was having the problem everyone reports of not being able to connect ("Failed to retrieve share list from server") on the new machine, even though all the existing bookmarks were still functioning file. All of the Windows 10 machines were able to see one another without problem. Then I ran across this thread and tried Bloodyiron's suggestion of killing the gvfsd-smb-browse process. Immediately I was able to connect to the new machine using Nemo. I quickly created some needed bookmarks to the important shares and now I can communicate using the file browser and expect the new bookmarks to be as reliable as the others. So I would suggest this bookmark method to others as a workaround. This supports Craig W's comment about the difference between discovery and browsing. When I run "smbclient -L // -U ", it reports all of the shares on the target, whether Windows or Linux, with the closing message: "SMB1 disabled -- no workgroup available" as expected. Unfortunately, this is only a one-way solution. All of the legacy Windows 10 machines can see and access the Samba shares on the Xubuntu box, but I haven't yet figured out a way to get the new Windows machine to access these same shares, with or without gvfsd-smb-browse running. Every connection attempt is rejected and I haven't found useful messages in the logs. If I figure out a solution, I'll post here, and I'm open to suggestions. I agree with the general sentiment that for a service as important as this, there isn't any real excuse for this thing dragging out for two years as it has.

I tried 3 keys, a RSA 2048 key created in 2012, a DSA 1024 key created in 2007, and a RSA 2048 key created in 2019. The "Import Key" menu option in Seahorse wont import either a binary nor an armored (asc) version for any of these keys. For either key version of any key an error message pops up "The information in this key has not yet been verified" and underneath the message are the details of the key. In the upper right corner "Import" appears and clicking on it does nothing. The key is not imported. In the file manager window a double click of the asc version of the key or using the menu choice "Open with Import Key" will import the key. A message apperars "the key blaa blaa has been imported". And infact it has. With the binary version of the key "keyfile.pgp" nothing works, no error message no nothing. This binary version can be imported using a terminal. As was noted in the other bug report, the sucessfully added keys are only listed after Seahorse is stopped and restarted. And finally Seahorse menu option "Export" will only export a binary version of keys even thought one of the choices is to export the key as an armored ".asc" version. I hope this is clear and detailed enough. [Bug 1900347] [NEW] Doesn't import gpg keys Doesn't export armored (asc) gpg keys
Public bug reported: Very similar to bug # 1577198. Seahorse (Passwords and Keys) won't import gpg keys. But if I double click on the gpg key in the file manager it will show as imported after I restart Seahorse. After keys are imported (using the double click method or CLI) they can only be exported as binary keys i.e. keyname.pgp. If I try the option to export as a keyname.asc version (armored) I only get the same binary key. Everything works fine with gpg in a terminal. I'm also seeing a steady growth in gnome-shell's memory usage over time. [Bug 1834084] [NEW] Selecting Text and CLICKING Permanently Removes Text
Public bug reported: It seems a prior bug has resurfaced, with a slightly different behavior now. (This is *not* a duplicate of gtk#1447) **Version:** 3.32.1-2 **OS:** Ubuntu MATE 19.04 In the email composer window, if you select text in the body, and *click* anywhere else in the composition pane, the text you selected is sometimes permanently deleted (cannot be accessed from undo). When this happens, the undo history itself is mangled, so pressing Ctrl+Z will try to "undo" as if the text were still there, meaning intentionally deleted text will be inserted in strange places, etc. This can be a bit unpredictable. For example, if you change the style of text (Normal/Preformatted/Header) first, it seems to prevent it. There seem to be other actions that can sometimes prevent it, or sometimes it just won't happen at all, even following the steps below exactly. (It happens about half the time for me...usually more often when the email is important, ha ha.) 1. Open a new Compose window. 2. Type some text in the body. 3. Using the mouse, select some text. 4. Click elsewhere in the composition pane. Be advised, **modifier keys, arrow keys, or clicking outside the composer window do NOT cause the text to be deleted.** Be advised, this was previously reported at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/issues/500 and dismissed as "blame the environment". ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1834084 Title: Selecting Text and CLICKING Permanently Removes Text To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1834084/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1762952] Re: Alternative shortcut for layout switching Alt+Shift unexpectedly set by default
This bug made using emacs and IntelliJ Idea a nuisance. I found a simple workaround. 0 =1= You can verify how ALT and SHIFT are not being detected simultaneously by running $ xkbwatch Notice how the blinky lights change for ALT and for SHIFT but not for both at the same time. =2= $ setxkbmap -query rules: evdev model: pc105 layout: us,us,us variant:,intl, options:grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll THIS IS THE PROBLEM =3= We will now unset ALT-SHIFT toggle. $ setxkbmap -option -option grp_led:scroll ^^^ DELIBERATELY EMPTY The first empty -option erases all options, the second one just carries over an option we want to keep. Additional -option clauses can preserve other preexisting options. I can still change to next/previous input source with whatever is configured in Settings/Keyboard/Typing =4= Do step =2= again and notice how ALT and SHIFT now play together simultaneously. I am now a happy Emacs and IntelliJ user. This is a single command workaround. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1762952 Title: Alternative shortcut for layout switching Alt+Shift unexpectedly set by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/console-setup/+bug/1762952/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1801098] [NEW] gnome-software does not exit a search
Public bug reported: I (accidentally) started Rhythmbox for the firt time ever at this laptop. It started, and a pop-up came asking if I wanted to install additional needed codecs (title line says "Available software for MPEG-4 ACC decoder", so I guess this was the search argument. [Bug 1704533] Re: French language locale missing : Gnome-Weather
In fact the problem is simple : libgweather-common.deb had not package the traductions (!!). In debian sid, libgweather-common.deb (3.26.0-1) include (a part of) the trad files in /usr/share/locale. For example : /usr/share/locale/et/LC_MESSAGES/libgweather-3.0.mo /usr/share/locale/et/LC_MESSAGES/libgweather-locations.mo /usr/share/locale/eu/LC_MESSAGES/libgweather-3.0.mo /usr/share/locale/eu/LC_MESSAGES/libgweather-locations.mo /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/libgweather-3.0.mo /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/libgweather-locations.mo ... See here the complet list of "normals" files : https://packages.debian.org/sid/all/libgweather-common/filelist. In Ubuntu 17.10 and 18.04, libgweather-common.deb has NOT these files. /usr/share/locale is not include. I picked the 2 files which interess me in libgweather-common.deb from sid : /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/libgweather-3.0.mo /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/libgweather-locations.mo and i copied them (in root) in the same directory on my disk. [Bug 151365] Re: Autosave doesn't work for Unsaved Documents
I dug into the code to try and fix this, but it's a lot more complex than it looks. If anyone wants to start digging, look at `gedit- tab.c:248` - that's the first catch conditional. Also look at the function getting called if that conditional passes - there's a similar catch conditional in there. The main problem is that auto-save pulls in the file object, which doesn't exist if the document is unsaved. Autosave would actually have to save the file to some special "temporary" directory. [Bug 1406735] [NEW] package udev 208-8ubuntu8.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 102
Public bug reported: A few weeks ago I installed Ubuntu 10.10 server with the addition of the xubuntu-desktop packages. Everything started out alright until i tried to install sendmail in place of postfix. That installaton failed, reporting a similar error: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 102 From there, things went from bad to worse. I was now unable to finish the install of sendmail nor could I remove it fully and reinstall postfix. Spamassassin seemed to be one critical package that hept reporting errors. As I tried to install or remove packages using synaptic, the system most of the time refused to act due to dascading errors and partially removed packages that could not be removed, even by force. Today I threw up my hands and did a complete fresh install of the system. Everything went well for the basic packages until I ran software updater. A few packages were scheduled to be updated, including udev and it has now faild in the exact same manner. Could someone look at this and provide a quick reply as to what can be done to rectify this situation.
