[Bug 1753893] [NEW] tandem raise/lower for half-screen snapped windows breaks normal workflows

2018-03-06 Thread cleary

The revert commit:

This is not currently in 18.04, I think it's important to include - can
I make a wishlist request? :D

Re: [Bug 647466] Re: gcalctool window is not resizable

2011-01-12 Thread Michael Cleary

thanks for this assistance.

On 13/01/11 07:39, Eliah Kagan wrote:
Yes, as a workaround for this issue, you can downgrade to 5.28.2. Lucid
Lynx provides a package for that version, which can be installed in
Maverick. These instructions assume you're using the Ubuntu Software
 Center.

First, uninstall the current package version. In the Ubuntu Software
Center, search for gcalctool. One result, called Calculator, will
come up. Click Remove. Assume you're using regular Ubuntu (rather than
Kubuntu, Xubuntu, etc.), you will be asked to uninstall the ubuntu-
desktop package. You must click Remove Anyway to uninstall gcalctool
(since gcalctool is a dependency of ubuntu-desktop). In the future, when
the latest version of gcalctool again meets your needs, you should
 reinstall ubuntu-desktop.

Once the removal operation completes, get this package if your architecture
 is i386:
 https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/gcalctool_5.30.0.is.5.28.2-0ubuntu2_i386.deb

Or this package if your architecture is amd64:
 https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/gcalctool_5.30.0.is.5.28.2-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb

(These links can be found manually, if you wish, by going to
 https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcalctool and expanding
5.30.0.is.5.28.2-0ubuntu2 under The Lucid Lynx (supported).)

Open it in the Ubuntu Software Center. It will say Please install
'Gcalctool' via your normal software channels. Only install this file if
you trust the origin. Click Install.

Gcalctool 5.28.2 is now installed. Note that you can reinstall ubuntu-
desktop now if you wish (since the gcalctool package you just installed
fulfills the dependency). Doing so would ensure that you are
automatically presented with new packages that become part of the Ubuntu
Desktop system (which is the behavior of a properly functioning Ubuntu
system). However, you would also be automatically presented with the
current version of gcalctool, so you'd have to unselect it every time
you do an update, or you'd end up going back to the newer version that
 does not meet your needs.

[Bug 689556] [NEW] cannot re-size calculator app

2010-12-13 Thread Michael Cleary
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

Calculator app appears too small on screen to be useful. Unlike other
applications, I cannot re-size the window.
I am using Ubuntu 10.10 and I did not have this problem with the calculator app

I am now using Speedcrunch which is satisfactory but it would be helpful if
the calculator could be re-sized in future Ubuntu releases.

Hi,
This is not a duplicate of the other bug. The behaviour described in the other
occurs upon shutdown and reboot, and is clearly a bug.

My report is related to logout/auto-relogin behaviour which I think may
be by design (but a design feature which I think is not providing
expected behaviour).

Could you please re-read my report, and remove the duplicate status

Regards,
Bernie

[Bug 499337] [NEW] gdm doesn't re-login after logout when autologin and timedlogin are enabled Karmic 9.10

2009-12-21 Thread cleary
Public bug reported:

If I configure autologin in gdm, it works for the initial login in a gdm
session. Upon choosing logout from the Session menu, it does not auto login
again.
If the gdm service is restarted, autologin will work again as expected for the
initial session, but logout fails again.

The expected behaviour is that upon logging out, the gdm will honour the
autologin and timedlogin options configured in /etc/gdm/custom.conf

[Bug 458679] [NEW] archive manager blocks wine on exe files

2009-10-22 Thread Sean Cleary
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

This seems to happen for all Ubuntu based distos.
I really need some simple advice, that may be all.
Archive manager intercepts clicks on exe files, not wine.
I have disabled the AM before, no big problem yet, what are the consequences?
I really would like anything I click on to be expanded then have the exe sent
to wine.
Could you do that?

And the last question: how best to get wine to have priority on exe files?

Re: [Bug 209520] Re: unclear error when lanman authentication is refused on the server

2009-10-10 Thread Sean Cleary
It now works, and I do not know how or why.
This is a major problem. I can not easily recommend a system that does
not have a easy way to hook up to other house hold computers.
You say solved, and after changing that file, rebooting server and PC a
few times, it did work.
Still, what a mess for anyone, as just a month ago I was trying nearly
everything and did not find your article.
There are many puzzled noob Ubuntu users with this problem out there.
Have mercy, or just give up the idea that Ubuntu is easy to use.
Is there anyway that you can use a program (windows speak= wizard) that
would configure this itself?
Maybe one that can use the info in the windows wizard generated files to
configure every machine on the local net?

 1) install the samba package
 2) configure 'security = share' and 'lanman auth = yes' in the

 3) add a user account to the server (e.g., with 'sudo adduser

 4) set a password for this (insecure!) account with 'sudo smbpasswd

 user = user
 6) with the hardy version of the libsmbclient package installed,
 test the following:
   a) smbclient //localhost/user
 should return
Server not using user level security and no password supplied.
Server requested LANMAN password (share-level security) but
'client use lanman auth' is disabled
   b) nautilus smb://localhost/user
should prompt for a password, and, even when entered
 correctly, return
  Couldn't display smb://localhost/user
Error: Failed to mount Windows share
Please select another viewer and try again.
 7) install the libsmbclient package from hardy-proposed
 8) both of the above two tests should now succeed
 9) set 'client lanman auth = no' in /etc/samba/smb.conf
 10) confirm that both of the above tests again fail when the config
 is overridden
