Install this extension from https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/2087/desktop-icons-ng-ding/ in Ubuntu 19.10 development release. Then, install the same in Fedora 30, or Arch with Gnome. Gnome shell works in those distros, or any other, but fails in Ubuntu 19.10. Public bug reported: The default Ubuntu 18.04 login screen shows both Ubuntu and Ubuntu on Xorg as default. (This 18.04 dev install uses lightdm instead of gdm.) Clicking on Ubuntu (default) opens only Ubuntu on Xorg. No Wayland session.
