[Bug 2064354] Re: File manager crashes on run

2024-05-01 Thread Dominik
> nautilus is the filemanager, it's not used to select files in other
applications (that's the fileselector widget from GTK)

Thanks, this confirms other applications are affected as well. Following
the other bug you linked, I can confirm that (at least) GNOME settings
and the system monitor are affected as well.

I wonder why 535 was the most recent driver offered by "Software &
Updates -> Additional Drivers". Anyway, switching to the nvidia 550
driver seems to resolve this issue for me fully.

Thank you!

It affects me as well, attaching a backtrace does not work as nautilus
cannot be started to pick a file in Firefox so I have to insert it here
in full length:

I will set this bug also to "Incomplete" for "gnome-shell (Ubuntu)"

FWIW it works fine on KDE: the reminder can be minimized and put behind
the main TB window.

[Bug 2018297] Re: ThinkPad Yoga 460 Auto-Rotation stoped working after suspension

2023-05-08 Thread Dominik Viererbe
I think this bug is related to a hardware failure/feature in the hinge
mechanism. I could reproduce the auto rotation lock at a certain angle
of the hinge.

This still does not explain why I could not change the orientation
manually (why the "Orientation" setting in the "Display Settings" Menu
showed no dropdown menu)

[Bug 2018297] [NEW] Auto-Rotation stoped working after suspension

2023-05-02 Thread Dominik Viererbe
Public bug reported:

The auto-rotation feature of my Laptop stoped working.

- screen orientation was in landscape mode
- closed the lid of my laptop
  => laptop entered suspension mode
- opened the lid
  => laptop was waking up
- screen orientation was in portait mode

I could not change the screen orientation by rotating the laptop
physically nor change the orientation manually (the "Orientation"
setting in the "Display Settings" Menu showed no dropdown menu). After a
quick reboot everything worked fine.

This are the specs of my Device:

OS: Ubuntu 23.04 x86_64

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2020-08-31 Thread Dominik Danieluk
The same issue here in Fedora32 gnome-shell 3.36.5. Alt+F2->(r) fixes
the issue for a while, but in some time it comes back. The mouse clicks
are inactive in the middle of the screen (horizontally), but seem to
work correctly on the left and right. For example in Chrome with 29 tabs
opened, first 11 tabs get correctly activated with the left click. The
tabs 12-20 are immune to the click and 21+ get again activated
correctly. of course the same thing happens in the other apps. For
example windows cannot be dragged when clicked within the 'dead' are,
however when clicked in first ~30% or last ~30% (horizontally) they are
dragged as expected. Let me know if you need any logs or other details.

[Bug 1855757] Re: [nvidia] Background image corrupted after standby or resume from suspend

2020-07-16 Thread Dominik
OMG, this looks like it's it.

On my main computer with Geforce 330M I have a background that's 1x
screen res and I haven't been getting the corrupted background. I just
switched to a stock Ubuntu bg image, which I presume is much larger than
1440x900, suspended the machine and now it's completely white.

The corruption I now get after resume from suspend is this:

1. The Gnome menu (the one on the left after pressing the super key)
when using Gnome session is corrupted or invisible. Moving the mouse
over the icons makes them appear and closing and re-opening the overlay
fixes it. The left menu from Ubuntu session seems fine, but I only tried
a couple of suspends as I use the Gnome session.

2. Current program icon in the top bar of the Gnome session gets
corrupted.

3. Icons in some applications (like Cura) get corrupted. I think it may
be related to Qt.

But I guess that would be a different bug?

[Bug 1872101] [NEW] Can't start VNC server from Sharing window in Gnome

2020-04-10 Thread Dominik
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Focal, I'm (mostly) unable to start screen sharing
from the Sharing window in Settings.

Unfortunately it's "mostly", as I managed to do it a couple of times,
unfortunately usually it's not possible.

The toggle in the title bar of the window is inactive and doesn't flip.

I can start all the other shares no problem (files, multimedia, ssh).

Manually starting /usr/lib/vino/vino-server works fine.

[Bug 1869470] Re: Can't minimize Thunderbird Lightning reminder window

2020-04-03 Thread Dominik
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal

** Description changed:

Ever since Ubuntu moved back to Gnome from Unity, it's impossible to
minimize the Thunderbird Lightning reminder window. It's really
annoying, the window is always on top of Thunderbird and has to be
constantly moved around to use the program.

- Closing the window makes no sense as a) it tends to start syncing the
- events with reminders, which can show conflict prompts requiring even
- more work from the user and b) the window comes back very quickly. So,
- minimize makes the most sense.

[Bug 1869470] [NEW] Can't minimize Thunderbird Lightning reminder window

2020-03-28 Thread Dominik
Public bug reported:

Ever since Ubuntu moved back to Gnome from Unity, it's impossible to
minimize the Thunderbird Lightning reminder window. It's really
annoying, the window is always on top of Thunderbird and has to be
constantly moved around to use the program.

Closing the window makes no sense as a) it tends to start syncing the
events with reminders, which can show conflict prompts requiring even
more work from the user and b) the window comes back very quickly. So,
minimize makes the most sense.

[Bug 1855757] Re: [nvidia] Background image corrupted after standby

2020-02-07 Thread Dominik
I have this problem on two machines, both using the 340 Nvidia driver
and running Ubuntu 19.10.

On one machine, with a Geforce 330M, only the lockscreen gets corrupted.
On the other, running Geforce 8600M, both the lockscreen and wallpaper
get corrupted.

This didn't used to happen on 18.04, I was hoping to get better
performance that came with 19.10 and now there's this. :-(

With Nvidia EOLing the 340 driver recently, I was hoping to get another
5 years of both machines with Ubuntu 20.04 (if the driver continues
working there at all), so hoping this does get fixed.

BTW, a little workaround: For me the crashes appeared most often in the

I saw that the Merge Request that fixes this bug
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/merge_requests/895) has been
merged to master already. Is there any chance that this will be applied

[Bug 1847028] [NEW] Disabling DesktopIcons extension breaks activity overview

2019-10-07 Thread Dominik Förderer
Public bug reported:

1.) Release Ubuntu 19.10 development
2.) Package: gnome-shell
Architecture: amd64
Version: 3.34.0-1ubuntu1

3.) Pressing super leads to a working activity overview

4.) Activity overview is broken and gnome-shell freezes somehow

Description:

I tried to disable the Ubuntu Desktop extension via gnome-tweak but that's not
possible. I have then disabled the Ubuntu Desktop Icons extension by moving it
away from /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions. The reason for that is that i
prefere to use nemo-desktop.
After disabling the extension the activity view is broken and the shell freezes
somehow. The only way to recover that is to log out and log in again.

The Problem is independent from the NG extension. I disabled the Ubuntu
Desktop Icons extension by moving it away from /usr/share/gnome-
shell/extension because i use nemo-desktop. After that the activity view
is broken as described above. I use nemo-desktop the last 4 years
together with gnome-shell and had no problems.

I can confirm this issue on my system with this version/kernel:
Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
Linux clds 4.19.0-041900-generic #201810221809 64Bit

Different applications are disappearing after locking the screen while
some are still shown after screen lock

alt + f2 -> "r" -> return works as a temporary solution.

[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates

2014-06-10 Thread dominik christ
Hi all,
I have been following this discussion for a while because the connection to my
A2DP device was broken after upgrading to 14.04 with all the symptoms
described above.

Following David Henningsson's suggestion in post #71, I used apt-get
purge blueman to fully uninstall blueman from my system. After a
restart, I could connect to the A2DP device with the Unity-default tool
and the connection would not break down after ~1s anymore. The system
did not switch the audio output to this device automatically, but after
manual switch audio output was just fine.

So in short: Uninstalling blueman solved my bluetooth connection
problem, which confirms that it is causing this issue.

[Bug 1169307] Re: compare, dropbox, rename: none working

2013-04-22 Thread Dominik Wujastyk
I found that if I downloaded nautilus-renamer from

https://launchpad.net/nautilus-renamer (v.4.0)

instead of the older version offered at it's official home at

http://gtk-apps.org/content/show.php/Renamer?content=87601

then it works with Nautilus 3.6

I've also re-installed Dropbox v2.0.5 from the dropbox.com website and
it now works in Nautilus 3.6. I've just upgraded to the pre-release
Dropbox v2.1.11, and that is also working with Nautilus 3.6.

Finally, I still haven't had success with nautilus-compare, even though
it's tagged as being for Raring.

Best,
Dominik

[Bug 1035221] Re: xdg-open/gnome-open opens blank firefox

2012-09-23 Thread Dominik Stadler
Changing the default browser under System settings - Information -
Default-Applications - Web has effect, although changing back to
firefox does not fix it.

Changing the command in the gnome property browser under /desktop/gnome
/url-handlers/http/command does not have any effect on gnome-open, so
it seems this is not used and there are actually at least two places,
where this is configured...

[Bug 1035221] Re: xdg-open/gnome-open opens blank firefox

2012-09-23 Thread Dominik Stadler
After a lot of digging into the various involved components including
some stracing I found out why it didn't work and how to fix this:

It seems the default applications are found via .desktop files in
/home/user/.local/share/applications. I had some older entries in
there, probably from Ubuntu editions from a few years back (I am not a
fan of re-installing and usually update from one to the next version).
There were several firefox entries in there, when I removed all of them,
I could not select firefox any more as default application in the system
settings, however when I copied over the firefox.desktop entry from
/usr/share/applications/ and re-selected firefox as the default
application, I can now open http-links from all the applications again.

Not sure who or what is to blame here, somehow my deleted-files folder
does not show the removed .desktop files any more, so I cannot post them
to allow for closer analysis, maybe the original reporter with the same
problem can post the files.

[Bug 1000686] [NEW] gnome-terminal moves around when switching tabs on XFCE

2012-05-17 Thread Dominik
Public bug reported:

When installed and used on XUbuntu, gnome-terminal behaves very weird:
When clicking in the wrong places, the whole window moves around by
itself. Its sounds weird, please try it out yourself.

To reproduce:
1. Use XUbuntu 12.04
2. Install gnome-terminal
3. Open a second tab in the terminal
4. Click in the menubar in the blank area right to Help (= nothing happens)
5. Click on one of the tab-headers or in the terminal-surface (white area)
itself (= Mouse changes to hand icon)
6. Move around mouse

After this, the terminal window follows the mouse as if it was glued,
this is defenetively not what is desired, I only clicked, never dragged
the mouse!

I tested this on the Xubuntu 12.04 Live CD, the bug is there to, so do not
think it is a configuration issue.

[Bug 390989] Re: [SecurityRoadmap] Locked screen shows the desktop

2012-01-15 Thread Dominik Menke
I'm affected, too. I don't believe, this has something to do with
drivers (I'm using nvidia-current) but I think, there is a flaw in the
lock-mechanism.

Occasionally, my desktop does not just flashes, but reveals the running
applications *on top* of the login field (see attached screen shot).

I'm strongly confident, this is just another reason, why you can't use
Ubuntu in companies (think of a payslip sheet at the accounting).

[Bug 677668] Re: Volume doesn't implement mount error when accessing SMB shares from browser

2011-07-15 Thread Dominik Sommer
With the latest 10.10 and 11.04, bookmarks linking to network shares are
no longer displayed in the file chooser dialog of Firefox. In 11.04, the
dialog shows the mounted share in the media list above the bookmarks
though. Uploading network files from there works. Unmounted shares are
not shown at all - neither in the media list nor in the bookmarks list.
In 10.10, network shares are not shown anywhere in the file chooser
dialog, be them mounted or not: There's no way to upload files from a
network share in 10.10.

So basically the original issue cannot be reproduced as the feature has
been removed...

[Bug 774795] Re: gnome-terminal corruption when switching workspaces

2011-05-03 Thread Dominik
I have exactly the same problem, hardware is:
Intel i5 chipset with

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

using a fully patched Ubuntu 11.04. This bug happens to me both, when
using metacity (so the 'no effects') and compiz.

See this screenshot for explanation: http://i.imgur.com/ntMct.png

I worked in firefox on workspace 3 and switches over to a gnome-terminal
running vim on workspace 2. After this switch the terminal is not
redrawn so the terminal-windows contains the internetpage which was
displayed in firefox previously.

[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-04-30 Thread Dominik
I have exactly the same problem, and i'm not on a virtualized machine but
instead normal machine:
Intel i5 chipset with default drivers, nothing special. Directly after login to
my user 'dominik', the theme is how it should be and the following processes
run:

$ ps aux | grep sett
gdm 2722 0.9 0.3 370176 15072 ?Ssl 10:41 0:00
/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon
--gconf-prefix=/apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins
dominik 2837 3.2 0.3 455344 15108 ?Ssl 10:41 0:00
/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

after some seconds, the theme goes away and now the following processes
run:

$ ps aux | grep settings
dominik 2837 1.3 0.3 407176 15052 ?Ssl 10:41 0:00
/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

OS is Natty fully upgraded.

[Bug 769204] [NEW] System refuses to respond after dragging text to terminal icon on the unity panel while running powertop in the terminal

2011-04-22 Thread Dominik-thomas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

This happened by mistake. I can reproduce this bug again. After
marking and dragging (left click and holding the left mouse button) some
text from chromium browser onto the gnome-terminal icon in the unity
panel, (the terminal is running the program powertop) waiting one or two
seconds and then releasing the left mouse button the system hangs. I can
not close the terminal window nor switch to any other window. The only
solution is to make the terminal active by rotating the running apps by
clicking Alt + Tab, quit the powertop and then push Alt + F4.

[Bug 768718] [NEW] Re-Importing a folder with images, creates duplicates for each version of an already imported image

2011-04-21 Thread Dominik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Version: F-Spot Installed: 0.8.0-1
Platform: Ubuntu 10.10

I keep my images in a folder and import them without the copy option.

Editing Images in F-Spot creates new files in this folder
(eg. cropping DSC_9216.JPG results in a new file DSC_9216 (Modified).JPG in
the same folder.

If I add new images into this folder and re-import the folder, then
F-Spot sees, that DSC_9216.JPG exists already (and hence doesn't
import it again), but DSC_9216 (Modified).JPG is imported as new
image, even though it is onle a cropped version of DSC_9216.JPG.

The versions should not be re-imported as new images.

[Bug 768732] [NEW] renaming of version should be possible

2011-04-21 Thread Dominik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Version: F-Spot Installed: 0.8.0-1
Platform: Ubuntu 10.10

Editing an image in F-Spot creates a new Version (usually called
modified) and a corresponding file on the file-system.

It should be possible to rename a version in F-Spot (which would also
rename the file on the filesystem).

For example add the following menu-entry: Menu=Photo=Rename Version

[Bug 768736] [NEW] Folder-View (sidebar) doesn't show any images

2011-04-21 Thread Dominik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Version: F-Spot Installed: 0.8.0-1
Platform: Ubuntu 10.10

When I select Folders in the Sidebar of F-Spot, and then navigate to a
certain folder, F-Spot still doesn't show any images.

For my understanding it should show all images located in the selected
folder (and/or sub-folders), but no files are shown. (see attachment.)

[Bug 486114] Re: Brasero Disc Burner. The disc in CD/DVD Drive cannot be ejected. An unknown error occured

2011-03-11 Thread Dominik Smatana
1. I got the same problem when trying to eject disk (Optiarc DVD RW AD-
7200A)... see attached log.

2. It's not possible to burn any CD-R correctly - getting the same
files might be corrupted error everytime...

I'm sure It's not HW problem, drive is working fine in other systems.

I got the same problem, I only got the evolution-data-server-common

[Bug 582752] Re: nautilus-sendto does not work without evolution

2011-01-03 Thread Dominik
Possible workaround without installing the evolution-packages:

$sudo mv /usr/lib/nautilus-sendto/plugins/libnstevolution.so /usr/lib
/nautilus-sendto/plugins/libnstevolution.so.old

which disables the buggy nautilus-sendto plugin for evolution.

[Bug 695189] Re: Desktop / Panels dont start on first login

2010-12-29 Thread Dominik Boehi
I tried to do this, but there was an error message that there is already
a panel running:

Cannot register the panel shell: There is already one running.

So I tried to kill it, with killall gnome-panel and then, the panel
appeared.

[Bug 695189] [NEW] Desktop / Panels dont start on first login

2010-12-28 Thread Dominik Boehi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I'm not sure if this actually belongs to nautilus, feel free to change
the package.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Start computer
2) Choose Ubuntu Classic Desktop
3) Login

What you expected to happen:

The classis desktop is shown with two panels.

What happened instead:

Only the wallpaper is shown, the panels are not there. Sometimes,
a notification that the wireless network is connected appears.

This happens every time I login. I can then go to a terminal (with Ctr-Alt-F1),
restart gdm and login again. This time, it works
