[Bug 52722] Re: Consistent 15-second hang with no window painting at launch
Nope, just 'eth0', but that line of inquiry is dead; read on. I got to thinking that this is a network problem, since this is obviously not a widespread bug. I figured maybe epiphany was doing a network request that was taking a long time. Bingo! During the hang, `sudo netstat -a4p | grep epiphany` shows epiphany with an established UDP connection to the domain socket on my gateway, a linksys router. So, I fired up Ethereal and watched packets. A cursory analysis: o Hang seems to be originating from some Avahi/MDNS queries related to discovering 'Local Sites' bookmarks. o There turned out to be a (misconfigured) Avahi server on another machine on the LAN. It serves up some MDNS web site pointers for devices on the LAN that don't have the capability to do that for themselves. o Those devices had been removed from the LAN, but the rogue Avahi server was serving _http._tcp.local TXT records for them still. o epiphany on my machine gets the SRV records from MDNS, then queries MDNS for A records for the advertised services, which it never receives. It then tries to query the DNS service on the router to find the records, which fails. This happens a few times. Finally it stops trying and the hang ends. o ephy starts up. The dummy, invalid 'Local Sites' appear in the menu. Selecting one of them sends ephy into the same query fits, but does not hang the UI, and the request eventually times out normally. That narrows it down some. I'm attaching a dump of network traffic during the hang. I'm not familiar with the code, but a simple fix would seem to be making epiphany avoid querying for A records from MDNS until the user actually clicks one of the Local Sites bookmarks. I can't imagine spurious SRV are all that rare, be nice if this kind of thing were handled more gracefully. Well, the problems doesn't seems to be related to hot key. The file filters.xml was corrupted, and bringing a backup solved the problem. How did it get corrupted?... that's the question. Before getting this odd behavior, I deleted a folder that was used in one of the filters. After deleting the folder, evolution showed a message saying that it has updated the related filters. [Bug 53190] Re: Attaching USB camera causes two photo import dialog boxes to be spawned
Interesting! Disconnecting, then reconnecting the camera gives only one of the gthumb dialogs (the one with three buttons). The dual dialog spawning only seems to happen when first connecting the camera. I haven't been able to duplicate it since. Perhaps this is a gthumb bug? The dialog with two buttons seems to launch a gthumb Import dialog (which doesn't see the photos on the camera), while the dialog with three buttons simply opens gthumb to browse the camera's USB volume (which is stupid, since import implies copy to hard drive) I'd say the dialog with two buttons is only supposed to show when a non- USB-Mass-Storage camera is connected, and the dialog with three buttons is only meant to be shown when a USB-Mass-Storage camera is connected. The same happens to me since breezy. The recent documents gets populated after you open a file from nautilus. In a ltsp server with dapper, the list is cleared again after some time until you open some file again. In this case I'm using a nfs mount as home for the users. -- recent documents cleared https://launchpad.net/bugs/43251 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 49154] Re: HP PSC 1350 Printer not added in Printers (Ubuntu Dapper)
Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 LTS Final Desktop 386. Downloaded by means of torrent. Since there´s no PSC1350, I use PSC1300 (as recommended by linuxprinting.org: Think of it as the 1300 series) Can´t give the screendump, but I rembember that included a permissions information (not having enough, or not permitted) when using terminal to install printer (The ppd file) What happens here is (as in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HpPrinterInstallationAndMaintenanceDapper) is steps 1 thru 7, but in step 8, the printer doesn´t appear. And then , run step 9, and so, the dump from the device manager. [Bug 43109] netstatus-applet: Confusing colors while transmiting
Public bug reported: Affects: gnome-netstatus (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: Binary package hint: gnome-netstatus-applet In netstatus-applet, while using the default Human theme, tangerine icons, the icon in the panel shows two monitors. Ehen data is transfered, the monitors switch from showing a black screen to a 'mini desktop' or something like that. I think this may be somewath confusing (or not advisble) for some people. In dapper this applet (or maybe network-monitor) used to show a light blue screen when transmiting, which was easier to undestand. [Bug 34274] Ejecting a CD/DVD gives Writing data to storage device msg
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34274 Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: When I right click on a CD/DVD in nautilus and Eject it, it pops up a dialog that has a progess bar and says Writing data to storage device CD-RW/DVD-ROM Drive. This happens on blank CD-Rs, DVDs, etc, where there obviously is no data to be written. Besides being very misleading and wrong, there are two other problems with it: the D in Drive is capitalized, and it says Please do not remove the device while this operation is in progress -- which obviously I can't since it hasn't ejected yet! -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 34058] Selecting SSL/TLS encryption for IMAP account connects to wrong server port
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34058 Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: This report applies to evolution package 2.5.92-0ubuntu1. While editing my IMAP account properties, Evolution lets me select connection encryption type under the Security heading on the Receiving Email tab. The problem is, if I choose SSL or TLS encryption, Evolution attempts to connect to my mail server on port 143. Many IMAP servers are configured to offer TLS/SSL connections on server port 993 (imaps). Since this version of Evolution does not allow me to specify the IMAP port it should connect to, and since it does not use port 993 when 143 is closed, I cannot check my email. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 34058] Selecting SSL/TLS encryption for IMAP account connects to wrong server port
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34058 Comment: Interesting - I could change the encryption option all I wanted while in evolution, and it continually tried to connect to port 143. Each time, I would close the account window. BUT! Once I restarted evolution, it connected to the correct port. Go figure. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 34175] Broken internet radio playlist handling
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34175 Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: This is an upstream problem affecting rhythmbox package 0.9.3.1-0ubuntu2. Right now, when a user clicks on a URL linked to a radio station's PLS or M3U playlist file, the playlist appears to get downloaded by the browser, and opened by Rhythmbox. Rhythmbox then makes an entry in its Radio screen FOR EACH ENTRY in the playlist. This results in several entries for the same radio station in Rhythmbox. Worse, radio stations update their playlists to point to different streaming servers over time, so all those entries get stale and stop working. For a demonstration, click the following link and open it in Rhythmbox: http://somafm.com/groovesalad.pls . You will get something like six entries in the station list for the same SomaFM station, all linked to different IPs. This is clearly wrong, since the IPs used by those entries may change in the future and the playlist is the only way to find out about such changes. You can also see this problem if you use Music-New Internet Radio Station. If you enter the URL of a .pls or .m3u file, you again get multiple entries for radio stations that will expire over time. The only way to get Rhythmbox 0.9.3.1 to handle things properly is to right click an existing internet radio station, select Properties, Details tab, and change the Location to the URL of the playlist. This appears to force Rhythmbox to reload the playlist on play, then pick the first available stream, which ought to be the standard behaviour. So, Rhythmbox needs to receive the URL of the playlist when a .PLS or .M3U link is clicked, then associate that URL with a single entry in the Radio screen. It should never keep the contents of a playlist cached between listening sessions. Another note: I mentioned this in #rhythmbox on GimpNet, and got the following response... neiras Man... I really find the Internet Radio directory in 0.9.3.1 annoying. Create a new Internet Radio feed, feed it a .pls location, and BOOM - six entries for different streams offered by the radio station neiras There should be one entry for a station. IPs in PLS files can change, often. moch anyway, yes, there are various annoyances in how we handle playlist files at the moment. what we really need is to change the way stations are stored so we can handle multiple stream urls, but that would be quite difficult. neiras Even if the multiple URLs aren't stored? The PLS file should really be downloaded every time the user goes to play the station, and the first working stream URL should be selected. neiras You really only need to store the PLS url moch there's some reason we stopped doing that, but I can't remember what it is. neiras ayee moch doctau might remember, but he seems to have vanished. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 32138] nautilus deletes files instead of doing a backspace with new fr keymap
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32138 Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I run Ubuntu Linux on my Powerbook with french (France) keyboard. Since the default fr mac keymap is not good for my Powerbook, I use a modified version and it works perfectly, I can pipe use the € (euro) sign, etc. But the problem I get now is that when I try to rename a file in nautilus and hit backspace nautilus deletes the file from the file system. It does not even put it to trash! The file just disappers and I get the following message : The item could not be renamed. There is no test1.txt in this folder. Perhaps it was just moved or deleted? Please note that the file is not simply deleted because it's empty, nautilus does the same thing with a file actually containing text in it. I had and have the same problem under Breezy and Dapper. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 32138] nautilus deletes files instead of doing a backspace with new fr keymap
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32138 Comment: I most say that I only this problem under Dapper. Because under Breezy the backspace button simply doesn't work in nautilus. Like I said the key works everywhere else as it should be. But not in nautilus. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
