On Ubuntu Edgy with Firefox set as the default browser, if I do not already
have Firefox open and I click on any of the links listed under Help - Web

Comment #1 from Aaron Bockover (banshee developer, points: 14)
2006-11-30 22:41 UTC [reply]

This would be a bug in gnome-open most likely. All I do is call
Banshee.Web.Browser.Open which in turn calls Gnome.Url.Show (by default), which
in turn should call gnome-open - either way, it should work and isn't an issue
in Banshee. Open the bug with Ubuntu.

[Bug 70026] Re: Can't browse LDAP directory, yet autocompletion works fine

2006-11-09 Thread Petchesi Gabriel Horatiu
I work around this problem by doing the following:
1. Go to Contacts - LDAP Directory and in the search field select Any field
contains
2. Press space once and search for that. It will list for you all the contacts
in the database.

I agree with you that Evolution should show all contacts by default (they are
already cached anyway) and I think this was the behaviour at one point but it
was changed.
In 2.4, 2.6 nu data is shown.

This has to be fixed upstream, see Gnome Bugzilla here:

[Bug 31286] Re: Displays repeated keyring dialogs on resume from suspend

2006-09-27 Thread Gabriel Bauman
I am affected by this when first logging into GNOME after a fresh boot.
As soon as the desktop appears I get two (sometimes three) overlapping
'Unlock keyring' dialog boxes. I have to cancel them both and manually
select my network, after which the unlock dialog reappears (once this
time) and then everything works fine.

I only get this on resume when the machine has been suspended or
hibernated long enough for the gnome-keyring session to have expired.

I'm on a Dell Latitude D620 with the ipw3945 chipset, and an up-to-date
Dapper.

[Bug 12893] Re: Shouldn't put .Trash-$USER on removable devices

2006-08-01 Thread Gabriel Bauman
I think the default Dapper behaviour makes sense.

If I put an file on my removable device into the Trash, and then walk to
another machine, it's very convenient that the file appears in the trash
on that machine too.

Most people are only upset about this because USB mass-storage cameras
aren't handled well in Ubuntu. *Cameras and MP3 players* should not
allow .Trash-$USER to exist - plain USB keys should.

[Bug 52722] Re: Consistent 15-second hang with no window painting at launch

2006-07-22 Thread Gabriel Bauman
Nope, just 'eth0', but that line of inquiry is dead; read on.

I got to thinking that this is a network problem, since this is
obviously not a widespread bug. I figured maybe epiphany was doing a
network request that was taking a long time. Bingo!

During the hang, `sudo netstat -a4p | grep epiphany` shows epiphany with
an established UDP connection to the domain socket on my gateway, a
linksys router.

So, I fired up Ethereal and watched packets. A cursory analysis:

o Hang seems to be originating from some Avahi/MDNS queries related to
discovering 'Local Sites' bookmarks.
o There turned out to be a (misconfigured) Avahi server on another machine on
the LAN. It serves up some MDNS web site pointers for devices on the LAN that
don't have the capability to do that for themselves.
o Those devices had been removed from the LAN, but the rogue Avahi server was
serving _http._tcp.local TXT records for them still.
o epiphany on my machine gets the SRV records from MDNS, then queries MDNS for
A records for the advertised services, which it never receives. It then tries
to query the DNS service on the router to find the records, which fails. This
happens a few times. Finally it stops trying and the hang ends.
o ephy starts up. The dummy, invalid 'Local Sites' appear in the menu.
Selecting one of them sends ephy into the same query fits, but does not hang
the UI, and the request eventually times out normally.

That narrows it down some. I'm attaching a dump of network traffic during the
hang.

I'm not familiar with the code, but a simple fix would seem to be making
epiphany avoid querying for A records from MDNS until the user actually
clicks one of the Local Sites bookmarks.

I can't imagine spurious SRV are all that rare, be nice if this kind of
thing were handled more gracefully. Sorry this took so long to figure
out.

[Bug 53651] Re: Aplying filters with hotkey (Ctrl+Y) deletes filters definitions.

2006-07-21 Thread Gabriel Patiño
Well, the problems doesn't seems to be related to hot key.

The file filters.xml was corrupted, and bringing a backup solved the
problem.

How did it get corrupted?... that's the question.

Before getting this odd behavior, I deleted a folder that was used in one of
the filters.
After deleting the folder, evolution showed a message saying that it has
updated the related filters.
Maybe there's the problem, and when it tries to update filters, it corrupts the
filters.xml file.

PS: When I say corrupted xml file, I mean that the file is not correctly
endend, but don't know how to express it right. Attached is the

[Bug 53190] Re: Attaching USB camera causes two photo import dialog boxes to be spawned

2006-07-16 Thread Gabriel Bauman
Interesting!

Disconnecting, then reconnecting the camera gives only one of the gthumb
dialogs (the one with three buttons). The dual dialog spawning only
seems to happen when first connecting the camera. I haven't been able to
duplicate it since.

Perhaps this is a gthumb bug? The dialog with two buttons seems to
launch a gthumb Import dialog (which doesn't see the photos on the
camera), while the dialog with three buttons simply opens gthumb to
browse the camera's USB volume (which is stupid, since import implies
copy to hard drive)

I'd say the dialog with two buttons is only supposed to show when a non-
USB-Mass-Storage camera is connected, and the dialog with three buttons
is only meant to be shown when a USB-Mass-Storage camera is connected.

If you can confirm that this is a gthumb issue, please move this bug.

[Bug 52829] 'Move To New Window' should be removed from the 'Documents' menu to comply with HIG

2006-07-12 Thread Gabriel Bauman
Public bug reported:

From the GNOME HIG :

===

The Windows menu contains commands that apply to all of the
application's open windows. Only use a Windows menu in multiple document
interface (MDI) applications.

You may also label this menu Documents, Buffers, or similar according to
the type of document handled by your application.

==

Given those guidelines, the Move to New Window option should be
removed from the Documents menu, since it only applies to the active
document. It is properly accessible by right-clicking a tab.

[Bug 52722] Consistent 15-second hang with no window painting at launch

2006-07-11 Thread Gabriel Bauman
Public bug reported:

With an up-to-date Dapper, Epiphany starts up, shows its window, then
freezes for 10 to 15 seconds. During that time, window contents are not
painted and I can see the desktop through the window frame. Dragging the
window makes psychadelic patterns in it. After the delay, Epiphany works
normally and is quite snappy. CPU usage during the delay is a little
high, but not pegged.

This started sometime last week on two machines. Firefox, in comparison,
works fine.

[Bug 46209] Re: Nautilus Passes Relative Path to vim for Remote Files

2006-06-30 Thread Richard Gabriel
I tested this and I think that in your syntax above, path refers to
the absolute path with leading slashes. When I substitute an absolute
path including the leading slash for the word path in your above
command line example, it works correctly and opens the remote file.

Working command line example:
gvim -f sftp://SERVER//home/USER/FILE.txt

In this case, path is /home/USER/FILE.txt. That being said, does
this still indicate a vim bug?

2006-06-09 Thread Gabriel Martinez
Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 LTS Final Desktop 386. Downloaded by means of
torrent.

Since there´s no PSC1350, I use PSC1300 (as recommended by
linuxprinting.org: Think of it as the 1300 series)

Can´t give the screendump, but I rembember that included a permissions
information (not having enough, or not permitted) when using terminal to
install printer (The ppd file)

What happens here is (as in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HpPrinterInstallationAndMaintenanceDapper) is
steps 1 thru 7, but in step 8, the printer doesn´t appear. And then ,
run step 9, and so, the dump from the device manager.

Oh, and I used System-Administration-Printing (or Printers)

[Bug 46209] Nautilus Passes Relative Path to vim for Remote Files

2006-05-23 Thread Richard Gabriel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When opening a file through nautilus with gvim (via gnome-vfs sftp), the
remote file path within the command issued to vim does not contain a
leading slash as would be used for an absolute path. vim attempts to
connect to the remote system properly but gives an error that the remote
file doesn't exist since the path is incomplete.

I'm not sure if this is a problem with nautilus, vim, and/or gnome-vfs
so please change the related package if I'm wrong.

[Bug 43109] netstatus-applet: Confusing colors while transmiting

2006-05-05 Thread Gabriel Patiño
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-netstatus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Binary package hint: gnome-netstatus-applet

In netstatus-applet, while using the default Human theme, tangerine
icons, the icon in the panel shows two monitors.

Ehen data is transfered, the monitors switch from showing a black screen
to a 'mini desktop' or something like that.

I think this may be somewath confusing (or not advisble) for some
people. In dapper this applet (or maybe network-monitor) used to show a
light blue screen when transmiting, which was easier to undestand.

Maybe making the monitors show a plain color (like in breezy) could
help, or using different colors for uploads and downloads, like red and
green, for example.

[Bug 36164] SMTP AUTH and SSL not working on dapper

2006-03-23 Thread Gabriel Bauman
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36164

Comment:
I reported this about a week ago. See #34058 for a quick summary.

The problem seems to be with evolution not applying settings when you
would expect. Try editing your account, setting your TLS options etc.,
then:

1. CLick OK in the Account Editor.
2. Click Close in the Evolution Preferences window.

At this point, your changes should have been applied - try hitting
Send/Receive. If it still goes for 143, try doing the above and then
closing/reopening evolution.

Description:
Since about one week the keyboard-based volume control is broken.

Steps to reproduce:

* Activate the key bound to 'increase volume'

Result:
The volume level popup is displayed, but volume does not change. Decreasing the
volume works. Using another key for 'increase volume' makes no difference.

Description:
If you visit the fonts:/// location in Nautilus, you are presented
with a nice view of all available fonts. You can also drag .ttf fonts to
the location in order to install them on a per-user basis. So why isn't
there an obvious way for the user to discover this?

We already have a an entry in Places for the nautilus CD burner thing.
Something like that for fonts:///, or perhaps a nautilus bookmark,
should be present in the default install.

Expose existing functionality!

[Bug 32643] unmounting of removable drives should show a progress dialog

2006-03-16 Thread Gabriel Bauman
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32643

Comment:
Don't mean to be a picky bastard, but the phrasing in the dialog box is
pretty inconsistent.

o Window title is Removing device. I got the dialog by selecting
Unmount or Eject, why is something being Removed?

o The bold text, Writing data to storage device device label is
much more indicative of what is actually happening (if a bit wordy).

Might I suggest something like the following:

 o Window title: Saving changes
o Bold caption: Saving changes to files on device label
o Warning: Please do not remove the device until this operation is complete.

I think this might be a bit more clear.

nothing. netstat shows no Jabber connections or other network activity.

[Bug 34274] Ejecting a CD/DVD gives Writing data to storage device msg

2006-03-09 Thread Gabriel Burt
Public bug reported:

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When I right click on a CD/DVD in nautilus and Eject it, it pops up a
dialog that has a progess bar and says Writing data to storage device
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Drive. This happens on blank CD-Rs, DVDs, etc, where
there obviously is no data to be written. Besides being very misleading
and wrong, there are two other problems with it: the D in Drive is
capitalized, and it says Please do not remove the device while this
operation is in progress -- which obviously I can't since it hasn't
ejected yet!

[Bug 34058] Selecting SSL/TLS encryption for IMAP account connects to wrong server port

2006-03-08 Thread Gabriel Bauman
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34058

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
This report applies to evolution package 2.5.92-0ubuntu1.

While editing my IMAP account properties, Evolution lets me select
connection encryption type under the Security heading on the
Receiving Email tab.

The problem is, if I choose SSL or TLS encryption, Evolution attempts to
connect to my mail server on port 143. Many IMAP servers are configured
to offer TLS/SSL connections on server port 993 (imaps).

Since this version of Evolution does not allow me to specify the IMAP
port it should connect to, and since it does not use port 993 when 143
is closed, I cannot check my email.

figure.

[Bug 34175] Broken internet radio playlist handling

2006-03-08 Thread Gabriel Bauman
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34175

Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
This is an upstream problem affecting rhythmbox package
0.9.3.1-0ubuntu2.

Right now, when a user clicks on a URL linked to a radio station's PLS
or M3U playlist file, the playlist appears to get downloaded by the
browser, and opened by Rhythmbox. Rhythmbox then makes an entry in its
Radio screen FOR EACH ENTRY in the playlist. This results in several
entries for the same radio station in Rhythmbox. Worse, radio stations
update their playlists to point to different streaming servers over
time, so all those entries get stale and stop working.

For a demonstration, click the following link and open it in Rhythmbox:
http://somafm.com/groovesalad.pls . You will get something like six entries in
the station list for the same SomaFM station, all linked to different IPs. This
is clearly wrong, since the IPs used by those entries may change in the future
and the playlist is the only way to find out about such changes.

You can also see this problem if you use Music-New Internet Radio
Station. If you enter the URL of a .pls or .m3u file, you again get
multiple entries for radio stations that will expire over time.

The only way to get Rhythmbox 0.9.3.1 to handle things properly is to
right click an existing internet radio station, select Properties,
Details tab, and change the Location to the URL of the playlist. This
appears to force Rhythmbox to reload the playlist on play, then pick the
first available stream, which ought to be the standard behaviour.

So, Rhythmbox needs to receive the URL of the playlist when a .PLS or
.M3U link is clicked, then associate that URL with a single entry in the
Radio screen. It should never keep the contents of a playlist cached
between listening sessions.

Another note: I mentioned this in #rhythmbox on GimpNet, and got the following
response...

neiras Man... I really find the Internet Radio directory in 0.9.3.1 annoying.
Create a new Internet Radio feed, feed it a .pls location, and BOOM - six
entries for different streams offered by the radio station
neiras There should be one entry for a station. IPs in PLS files can change,
often.
moch anyway, yes, there are various annoyances in how we handle playlist
files at the moment. what we really need is to change the way stations are
stored so we can handle multiple stream urls, but that would be quite difficult.
neiras Even if the multiple URLs aren't stored? The PLS file should really be
downloaded every time the user goes to play the station, and the first working
stream URL should be selected.
neiras You really only need to store the PLS url
moch there's some reason we stopped doing that, but I can't remember what it
is.
neiras ayee
moch doctau might remember, but he seems to have vanished.

[Bug 32138] nautilus deletes files instead of doing a backspace with new fr keymap

2006-02-20 Thread Gabriel Labelle
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32138

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I run Ubuntu Linux on my Powerbook with french (France) keyboard. Since
the default fr mac keymap is not good for my Powerbook, I use a modified
version and it works perfectly, I can pipe use the € (euro) sign, etc.

But the problem I get now is that when I try to rename a file in
nautilus and hit backspace nautilus deletes the file from the file
system. It does not even put it to trash! The file just disappers and I
get the following message :

The item could not be renamed. There is no test1.txt in this folder.
Perhaps it was just moved or deleted?

Please note that the file is not simply deleted because it's empty,
nautilus does the same thing with a file actually containing text in it.

I had and have the same problem under Breezy and Dapper.
