This problem now seems to be NOT associated with gnome-screensaver or gnome-power! I noticed last night that if my phone was close to the computer (i.e. in my poket) that the problem occurred and if the phone was some distance away (in the kitchen) that it did not. If I disable bluetooth on my phone (or on the pc) then the problem is gone! Since I posted this morning I have set all my screensaver and power settings to 'never', which did stop the problem then I went to ~/gconf.d and deleted the contents and rebooted. The problem has not occurred now for 5 hours so perhaps is fixed (let's see) but I have no idea what the cause was. removing evolution and evolution-data-server cured the problem. It also removed ekiga. This seems to have reared its head again after the last updates to evolution. Left clicking the clock once again hangs the panel. I do not have evolution/google calendar linked and do not use evolution. However evolution-data-server 2.22.2-0ubuntu1 is there for dependencies. The strange thing is that it hangs for EXACTLY 100 seconds then it opens the calendar. This is repeatable. This is not a RhythmPlayer or Ubuntu bug though, is it? More streams could be added quite easily. I also use Mandriva 2008 on another computer and RhythmPlayer there comes with more stations by default than Ubuntu. However, not everyone likes the same thing and the obvious question that shines through from previous comments is who chooses the defaults? What would be more useful, IMHO, is a better directory of radio stations so that it is easier to find and add the type of music that you like.
