[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity
Eureka! I think that comment #82 by Aitor Guevara has solved my freezes too. Aitor Guevara (aitorciki) wrote on 2011-07-17: #82 https://bugs.launchpad.net/acpi/+bug/762918/comments/82 At least I've been without freezes for more than 50+ hours, after applying his very simple guidelines. Let's hope that not much people has bought another computer thinking this was a hardware problem. The solution is also here: http://ubuntu4beginners.blogspot.com/2011/04/unity-choppy-with-ati- graphics-card-and.html It works for me, although I have an Intel 3100 graphics card instead of an AMD one. [Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity
Francesco bat, That is true, the PC does not completely freeze. The arrow of the mouse moves well, but the mouse clicks are not registered. The keyboard doesn't work either (apart from the key combinations to open consoles like CTRL + Alt + F1). Also chat programs like XChat keep registering conversations in the background. The problem is that you cannot access all those things... Unless you open a console and write: sudo pkill X Which kills all opened programs and unsaved documents. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/762918 Title: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/acpi/+bug/762918/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity
Much people may think that this is a memory or HD problem. And some of them could buy another computer for this. Mainly people with an older model. If it is really a kernel problem as I said two messages above, they might well wait for the (Canonical) update. I hope this come soon.
Same problem here, I have a Intel X3100 Graphics Card. In this page: http://ubuntuguide.net/ubuntu-11-04-upgrade-linux-kernel-to-2-6-39-0 They say that the linux kernel should be upgraded from 2.6.38-8 to 2.6.39.0 to solve the problem. Is it advisable to make the upgrade? Or is it better to wait for the automatic upgrade?
