[Bug 36812]

2018-06-08 Thread kolya
Dear xorg developers. This is an old bug. In fact this is a 13 years old bug.
And it has been at least 7 years since this bug had a patch to fix it.
Yes, existing patch breaks specification. But one would seem that the fact that
patch existed for 7 years and was applied by default by popular distributions
without users` complains would suggest that existing patch is a practical
solution to the problem despite breaking theoretical (and as discussed here -
not well thought through) specification.
There is now once more spike of activity here - probably because Ubuntu 17.04
was released recently which dropped this patch because it was not compatible
with newer xorg. kyak has provided an updated patch, but it would take a lot of
time for distributions to pick it up and then circle would repeat with next
xorg version.

Yes, there has been a few heated discussions around this patch and XKB
specification. And yes, specifications are important, but this is really
annoying problem for people with more than one keyboard layout. Annoying
to the point of making xorg really unusable for some groups of people.
So is there any chance to get more practical with this bug?

For example, kyak's patch has a function 'xkbSwitchGroupOnRelease' that
is a stub to make new behaviour controllable by configuration. Would
xorg maintainers find this patch acceptable to upstream if that function
read value from some environment variable and only turned new behaviour
on if it was set?

I feel like it would allow XKB spec to stay and also would allow users
affected by this problem to solve it without recompiling xorg - which
average user would struggle to do.

Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks!

[Bug 775759] [NEW] When window is moved to different workplace it is not moved from window list

2011-05-02 Thread kolya
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

After update to Natty I have the following.
When I select any window in window list and move it to other workplace using
context menu the window disappears from current workspace (which is correct)
but button for this window stays. When I go to any other workspace and return
back that button is not longer there.
Same thing happens when I move window to other workspace using context menu of
window title.
Before Natty upgrade button disappeared from current workspace as soon as I
clicked context menu item to move window.
I have setting to show only windows from current desktop on.
This bug could possibly be related to #697358 although solution from comment 21
there doesn't help.

I really hope I explained it well. Will be happy to provide any additional
information required.
Thanks!

[Bug 453747] Re: Wrong folder size on folder in smb shares

2011-03-14 Thread kolya
Hi

This is probably not nautilus bug. This looks like libsmb bug. Libsmb generates
same inode numbers for different files which makes nautilus (gvfs) treat them
as hardlinks and count their size only once.
I've submitted bugreport with patch to samba bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8010 .

Thanks.

[Bug 697494] [NEW] Rename ovewrites existing file on samba mount

2011-01-04 Thread kolya
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have some remote samba share mounted from Windows XP machine.
Suppose there are two files on this share: test1.txt and test2.txt. When I
rename test2.txt to test1.txt using Nautilus it removes existing test1.txt and
'moves' test2.txt to its place.
If I do same operation on local disk I get message "such file already exists,
choose another name".
This a bit dangerous since one can unexpectedly loose existing file.

[Bug 573661] Re: gnome-volume-control slider moves both Master and PCM

2010-10-31 Thread kolya
Have same issue on Dell Inspuron 6400.
Do not remember having this on 10.04 and before, it started to happen after
upgrade to 10.10.
And addition to what Sridhar has said I can add that when I change volume in
volume control it reaches 100% in alsamixer well before I reach 'loudest'
position in volume control. So part of volume-control's slider range does
nothing.

This is a bit annoying since laptop has 'volume buttons' and when I use them
volume is changed in huge steps.
Is there anything I can do to provide more information about issue?
Thanks.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

The problem is with volume of notifications control. When I move it to the left
edge the 'disabled' check box appears. When I move it back to non zero level it
stays.
Expected: 'disabled' checkbox should be unchecked when slider is moved from
leftmost position.

Note: I'm using Russian locale and may've provided invalid English
translations of control names.
