[Bug 1720820] Re: Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Wayland crashes on AMD graphics
That's okay, I already have some workarounds as described in the initial bug report, and Totem isn't my main video player of choice anyway. Just thought I would point it out since Totem and Wayland are defaults out of the box and this might cause some headaches for the not so tech savvy folks who just want things to be working. And as a sidenote, even on Xorg, Totem with hardware acceleration doesn't work perfectly because I get a few distorted frames at random intervals, about every 5 - 10 minutes. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 202089 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202089 You're doing it wrong. To restart pulseaudio, first kill it (killall pulseaudio), verify that it's no longer there (`pidof pulseaudio` shouldn't show any output, then start pulseaudio (pulseaudio -D). Ah. So pulseaudio is different from all other services, that's a bug in its own right... If VLC can still play sound then it must be using ALSA instead of PulseAudio for its sound backend. Yes, of course. That's just qualifying that sound is working in general, that the sound card is properly initialized after resume. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Getting GDM to keep the background image from the login theme is a trivial fix. 1. In the theme, add the attribute background=true to the item tag that defines the background image. [Bug 209915] Re: Totem is launched when connecting to SSH server
not really a bug then No, not really - but it's an unexpected (change in) behavior, even though it's an unusual corner case. I guess the real issue is a discussion on how Open with should be treated for folders, and how it should work for special folders. Maybe it should be special cased to always be Open folder as default action? No other action is likely to make sense, especially for remote folders. It seems it's overridden already for local folders, which was part of the confusion. To my mind, this was the old behavior, which would make this bug a slight regression. -- Totem is launched when connecting to SSH server https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209915 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 209915] Re: Totem is launched when connecting to SSH server
I figured it out, finally. It's something between a bug and user error. :) I'd call it a regression, but possibly it's just unexpected behavior. The problem is Open with in Nautilus. I always add Open with Totem on directories to be able to play a directory of movies easily. For some reason this became the default action, not just an added action, and for some reason it applied to SSH servers but not local ones... that's why it was extra confusing. Also, old version of Nautilus did not open a folder on connecting, just put a shortcut on teh desktop (but that's possibly due to my config). Setting Open folder as default resolved it for me. There is some slight difference somewhere in how Nautilus treats this - I *think* that it simply didn't set Open with actions as default, but just added them as extra options before. Alternatively, it was smart about default actions for remote folders... not sure which. -- Totem is launched when connecting to SSH server https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209915 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Of course you can have any info you ask for. :) But the first reply was really kinda offensive, since it was some boilerplate both totally wrong and inappropriate, as well as essentially telling the reporter to please don't file bug reports, because we don't want them. It does just what I say above, but I'll try to be even more clear: $ cat /etc/lsb-release DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu hardy (development branch) Updated as of April 3. nautilus 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu1 totem 2.22.0-0ubuntu3 libgvfscommon0 0.2.2-1 0 Steps to reproduce on my computer: 1. Fill in Password box if the password is not stored (same either way) Expected result: SFTP icon appears on Desktop, ready to click. Actual result: SFTP icon appears on Desktop, ready to click. And an instance of Totem starts. If password is not saved, the password box appears again a few times. Totem is totally unresponsive, even after adding passwords. Pretty soon it goes grey (Compiz says: Do not answer) and never returns. 100% repeatable on any SSH server I have access to. None of the servers have anything unusual either in root (/) or the users home dir. In fact, one of the servers is an almost perfectly clean Gutsy ubuntu-server with no extra files in either. Eh... so that the media player is launched whenever I add a SSH server in Nautilus is not a bug? [Bug 208548] [NEW] en_SE locale needed to get correct weekdays in Sweden
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome This bug is about the calendar applet in GNOME, but I don't know which package that is. Latest Hardy, updated as of 2008-03-29. In short: When in Sweden, the week should start on Monday, no matter what language is chosen. When I pick English, it's set to Sunday (locale becomes en_US). That it is even tied to language or locale is fundamentally broken, as is the fact that it is not possible to choose differently if the default guess is wrong. Why the *language* would matter is anybody's guess. See bug #2098 among others for background, discussion, etc. But, as it's broken and is probably gonna stay that way, I ask that a en_SE locale is added instead. It's extremely common here to use English language (on Windows installs as well), for a number of reasons. Windows does the right thing with the calendar though. If an en_SE locale is added and being picked when a user installs the English/Sweden combination, it's resolved for us at least, like it was for en_GB in bug #2098. Picking them off one at a time like that is not optimal, but it's better than nothing. :) Thanks! ** Affects: meta-gnome2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- en_SE locale needed to get correct weekdays in Sweden https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208548 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to meta-gnome2 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Got the same issue. Also see this thread in forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=664522 (first posts are about another issue, then it comes to this one). Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-applets In the quest of being a desktop for human beings, with a human-friendly interface: What is PCM? Does any regular user know? Does it make sense that the volume applet displays PCM: 100% when hovering over it, or that PCM is the main control to adjust in the mixer? Google search for PCM leads to technical explanations on Pulse-code modulation which is very unhelpful. Is the PCM control meant to be a Master control? Could it be called Master instead? [Bug 117751] Pressure sensitivity should be enabled by default for Wacom boards
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gimp Starting with Feisty, Wacom boards work out of the box, except for pressure sensitivity. Steps needed to enable pressure today are (in Gimp, about the same in Inkscape and maybe others): 1. File-Preferences 2. Input Devices-Configure extended input devices 3. For each of eraser, stylus and cursor: change Mode from Disabled to Screen 4. Save For most people, this is just some invocation they have to do and most don't even know what those steps do, or why there's an option to choose Screen or Window and so on. Given that the system correctly detects and activates the Wacom board, it should be possible to just switch these settings on for affected applications as well. For that matter, if these settings are just set whether or not there is a board, does anything break or could this be a reasonable default in the config files? For the rare case that someone wants to use a Wacom, but without pressure, this is exposed directly in tool in the Gimp, as you can control what aspects pressure should affect. This setting is viewable and changeable during use, unlike the actual activation. Suggestion: Activate pressure sensitivity by default, for everyone, for Wacom tablets. ** Affects: gimp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Tags: gimp pressure sensitivity wacom -- Pressure sensitivity should be enabled by default for Wacom boards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117751 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gimp in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 117751] Re: Pressure sensitivity should be enabled by default for Wacom boards
No, what I am looking for is to have it enabled, which it isn't by default. You need to invoke strange rituals for that to happen, even though the tablet is already acknowledged by the system and rest works fine. It has nothing to do with levels, xorg.conf or PressCurve. No matter what tablet is used, it seems to show cursor, stylus and eraser and these need to be set to Screen to work properly. If there is no tablet, these don't exist. So, to my thinking, if they do exist, they should default to Screen. Exactly how that is accomplished technically I don't know. For X, xorg.conf contains Wacom entries no matter if you have a tablet or not, that only appliles when there is one. It's probably possible to do the same with the Gimps config file, as nothing bad happens if I set this, then unplug the tablet. -- Pressure sensitivity should be enabled by default for Wacom boards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/117751 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gimp in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 97185] D-Bus can't be used to start Gaim service
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gaim D-Bus can't be used to start Gaim service, because the gaim.service file is malformed. * Ubuntu 6.10 * Gaim 1:2.0.0+beta6-0ubuntu4 See also upstream Debian bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=404293 Steps to reproduce: Run command: dbus-send --dest=org.freedesktop.DBus /org/freedesktop/DBus org.freedesktop.DBus.StartServiceByName string:'org.gaim.GaimService' uint32:0 Expected result: Gaim starts :) Actual result (with --print-reply): Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ExecFailed: Failed to execute program ${exec_prefix}/bin/gaim: No such file or directory This is because /usr/share/dbus-1/services/gaim.service contains the line: Exec=${exec_prefix}/bin/gaim All other service files have hardcoded paths. [Bug 93641] Re: [apport] evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_file_info_render_icon()
Mine crashed as well. I dropped a Windows Mail .eml file in the main window. So that probably classifies as a import right. I'm sorry I don't have more info. Maybe I'll make some later. -- [apport] evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_file_info_render_icon() https://launchpad.net/bugs/93641 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Nevermind on my part. Converted them to a mbox and used the import wizard, which worked. -- [apport] evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_file_info_render_icon() https://launchpad.net/bugs/93641 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
