[Bug 654395] [NEW] random graphical boot failure with (process:275): Glib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r() failed due to unknown user id (0)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Hello. I get (process:275): Glib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r() failed due to unknown user id (0) randomly when I boot. It seems to be gdm related, I think. Included is a screenshot. The graphical boot fails and it stops to that text. If I remember correctly, yes. The system does not jam completely, for example ctrl-alt-del reboots. I will try next time. -- random graphical boot failure with (process:275): Glib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r() failed due to unknown user id (0) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/654395 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 438561] Re: package gdm 2.28.0-0ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Max Bowsher wrote 7 hours ago: I just tried running 'dpkg --configure -a' from a text VT whilst gdm was still running, and it was fine. So it seems to be something about the postinst running inside a gnome-terminal that breaks things. I can confirm that this works on both of my karmic installations, amd64 and i386.
