Hello. I get (process:275): Glib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r() failed due to
unknown user id (0) randomly when I boot. It seems to be gdm related, I
think. Included is a screenshot. The graphical boot fails and it stops
to that text.

If I remember correctly, yes. The system does not jam completely, for
example ctrl-alt-del reboots. I will try next time.

I can confirm that this works on both of my karmic installations, amd64 and 
i386.
