[Bug 1305335] Re: Cutting or copying files on btrfs to ecryptfs results in data loss
Hi Joseph, This bug freaked me out so much I re-formatted to EXT4 and started over. I don't have a system that I can test this on now. The bug appeared on a completely fresh install of 14.04 beta 2 and the bug was still present in the release. Unfortunately, I never had any experience with BTRFS prior so I can't tell you how it worked before. As I recall, I had success doing copies via the terminal command line using CP -R, so I assumed the bug was in how nautilus handled file copies. My experience also was that once I got a file INTO the private directory, I was able to open, edit, and save correctly without error. Still, the whole thing sent shivers up my spine, and I'm not as technically-abled as others on this bug. I had to dump BTRFS as soon as I could. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1305335 Title: Cutting or copying files on btrfs to ecryptfs results in data loss To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ecryptfs/+bug/1305335/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1305335] Re: nautilus fails to copy to ecryptfs Private folder on btrfs - all files 0 bytes
I have continued to use the private directory so far without hitch. Using nautilus and other programs, it seems as long as I create a file in the Private directory and don't move or copy it, i'm fine. I have my .thunderbird directory inside Private and everything seems to work just fine. I've only had this issue on copying or moving using nautilus. [Bug 1305335] Re: nautilus fails to copy to ecryptfs Private folder on btrfs - all files 0 bytes
I can see that this bug still exists in the final release 14.04. To replicate this bug, 1.set up an SSD with BTRFS for root and home (all default settings). 2. Install 14.04. 3. Use ecryptfs-setup-private to install the Private subdirectory. 4. Create a text file on the desktop (or any directory outside Private) with any text inside. 5. Use nautilus to copy the file (either ctrl-c, ctrl-v, or right-click menus) to the private directory. 6. File will show as copied, but will contain no text (0 bytes). I just checked and this problem also occurs if the file is cut/pasted, meaning that anyone who tries to cut/paste files into the Private directory will lose that data. I think that's a somewhat serious issue. Ouch. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1305335 Title: nautilus fails to copy to ecryptfs Private folder on btrfs - all files 0 bytes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1305335/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1305335] [NEW] nautilus fails to copy to ecryptfs Private folder on btrfs - all files 0 bytes
Public bug reported: I've installed a fresh copy of 14.04 beta 2 on a brand-new SSD. I used btrfs as the filesystem. I set up a Private folder usying ecryptfs-setup-private. I copied a few folders into the Private folder, and the entire directory structure and subfolders are copied, including the files themselves, yet every file contains 0 bytes. However, I can create and save new files in the Private directory. Also, folders and files can be correctly copied if I use the command line cp -R. [Bug 886323] [NEW] Thumbnail Creation on Digital Camera Slows System and Crashes Nautlilus
Public bug reported: The USB 2.0 connection speed on my new Canon S95 camera is not very fast, so when browsing the images directly, Nautilus' thumbnailing process seems to choke the connection. The thumbnailing takes forever, particularly for CR2 files and long .MOV files. During thumbnailing, I cannot copy or view or do anything to these files for several minutes while the thumbnailing is taking place. Sometimes the thumnailing process crashes nautilus. Nautilus should not automatically thumbnail images on these external cameras if the thumbnailing process is going to bog down the camera connection. [Bug 465015] Re: Evolution fails to add google contacts with message Error adding Contact other error
Changing the DNS servers to google DNS did also solve this problem for me. I'm in Canada and was alternating between Rogers' Cable DNS servers and OpenDNS, neither of which work properly. Thanks so much for tracking this down and taking the time to report it, Franz! I'm also going to comment on this solution upstream at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=578907 where I had previously commented. -- Evolution fails to add google contacts with message Error adding Contact other error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/465015 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 465015] Re: Evolution fails to add google contacts with message Error adding Contact other error
Thanks for the tips Sebastien, After upstream discussion, I am beginning to believe that something in the upgrade process is causing this issue: I have a laptop (Ubuntu 9.10 32-bit) and a desktop (9.10 64-bit), both having been upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04--8.10--9.04--9.10, and both exhibit this same problem. On both the desktop and laptop, I tried several users, including a brand new clean user just to test this problem. This clean new user exhibits the problems I described in the original bug report. However, on the desktop computer, I have a clean partition that I installed Ubuntu 9.10 beta onto. This problem is not exhibited in Evolution on the fresh install of ubuntu 9.10 beta on that separate partition. I'm therefore led to the conclusion that something in the upgrade history is preventing proper google sync. Do you have any thoughts on where to begin cleaning out old Evolution junk? -- Evolution fails to add google contacts with message Error adding Contact other error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/465015 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
