+1 for applying the patch by default. since gutsy is a test release, no harm
will be done if harm will be done..
In the worst case, remove the patch before final release.

pretty please, with QA on top?

The problem still exists, but I cannot provide more information from this point

[Bug 78985] Re: Make totem-xine the default for totem

2007-01-27 Thread mangar
gstreamer's deficiencies in comparison to xine are not limited to dvd
playback:

1. playing streaming media doesn't work as well as xine
(especially wmv streaming media) - in many cases - not at
all - this is a huge issue.

2. playback of corrupted/partial files is very cpu intensive.
3. subtitles support is partial (more of a totem issue).

someday, gstreamer will be as good as xine, mplayer, or vlc;
for the time being, please provide the end-user the best possible solution
available today, and when gstreamer will be mature enough, than consider adding
it back to ubuntu stack - gstreamer have been in ubuntu for several releases
now, and haven't improved yet.

note:
mplayer seems to have the best success ratio at playing streaming media, rather
than gstreamer or xine.

[Bug 81751] remove ekiga from default ubuntu-installation

2007-01-26 Thread mangar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

current problem with ekiga:
1. isn't integrated with other elements of the system.
2. got weird UI,
3. judging from the number of bugs filed against ekiga, it's almost not used.

what can replace it?
i'm not terribly sure... a short list:
tapiocaui, landell, gossip-telepathy, phonegaim.

[Bug 75957] [feisty] [usability] categorization in the gnome-control-center needs to be more fine grained

2006-12-15 Thread mangar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

currently (at my configuration), there's two categories of the
gnome-control-center:
administration (with 16 elements),
preferences (with 31 elements).

i think that more categories than just those two, and better ordering, will
make the control center
more useable:

proposition:

--Administration:
services: bootUp manger, system Monitor, Services,

peripherals: Printing, Keyboard Indicator Plugins, Gnome partition
Editor, Device manager

Network: Network, Shared Folders, Software Sources, Update Manager,
Network, Network Tools

Maintenance: Remove orphaned Packages, Synaptic, system log, Time and
Date, Users and Groups, keyring manager,

--Preferences:
look and feel: Desktop Backgroud, Emerald Theme Manager, Desktop effects, Beryl
Setting Manager, Menus and Toolbars, Mouse, Font, Menu Layout, Murrine
Configurator, Theme, Windows, screensaver

personal information;
About Me, encryption preferences, PalmOS devices, assistive technology, Mail
Notification

hardware resources:
HPLIP toolbox, Mouse, Removeale drives and media, power management, sound,
keyboard,
screen resolution, SCIM input method setup

application behaviour:
preferred applications, sun java 5.0 policy tool

network:
network proxy, remote desktop

[Bug 4977] Re: bidi support in evolution is broken

2006-09-28 Thread mangar
solved problem:
1.the problem with gtkhtml seems to be mostly solved.
there's no longer complete mix up of the sentence.
remaining evolution problems:
2. the problem with day-view direction of topics has been solved.

1. the week-view doesn't start on sunday, even when defined that way in the
preferences.
2. the problem with the (,) remains - when writing f(a) (meaning - switching
to English in the
middle of a Hebrew sentence, and writing () ), the closing ) moves to the
left of the f and
inverses direction.
(a better example will be to look at the topic line in the attached screenhsot).

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

If there isn't any patch available, what about changing the
default archive manager?

or

(that's what i've found on gnomefiles.org, sorry for not trying harder..)

Those might not be the official gnome utilities, but if they work,
and adhere to the FOSS license, why not use them (especially
