[Bug 2002332] [NEW] [22.04] Cannot see thumbnail in MTP of PTP mode in Nautilus

2023-01-09 Thread Michel-Ekimia
Public bug reported:

Usage of USB to see / copy photos from an Android phone is still useful
in 2023

With Ubuntu 22.04 up to date :

- Connect your Android phone ( Android 10 lineageos here )

- Choose MTP : open nautilus and browse -> No thumbnail for your pictures
- Choose PTP : open nautilus and browse -> No thumbnail for your pictures
- Choose PTP : open Shotwell and browse -> Some thumbnails appears

Without thumbnails , it is almost impossible to choose what to copy.

[Bug 1991809] [NEW] App search based on mime type returns nothing

2022-10-05 Thread Michel-Ekimia
Public bug reported:

When trying to open a file which has no apps associated in nautilus like
a .epub

You have the button " look for compatible apps" which is great

however , gnome-software returns no apps for "application/epub+zip"
mime type althou calibre and others can handle them

is this a problem with appsstream ?

I think THIS IS a very important feature ..

I tend to think that this is a very important feature in the user

Can we resolve the snap to launch with some workaround ?

[Bug 1950484] [NEW] Adding an admin user a Gnome Control Center should set the right groups

2021-11-10 Thread Michel-Ekimia
Public bug reported:

Currently when installing Ubuntu , the default admin belongs to several
essential groups :

adm cdrom sudo dip plugdev lpadmin lxd sambashare

But when adding a user from GCC , the new admin user will only belong to :

sudo

This leads that the second admin cannot add printers and so on...

This is observed on a clean 20.04.3 install

[Bug 1923222] [NEW] Can't leave "Activities Overview "

2021-04-09 Thread michel
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 21.04 Beta with all updates installed.
When pressing "Super Key", activities overview is displayed. But I'm stuck
there: I can close windows and apps and even start new apps, and they are
highlighted when mouse is placed over one of them, but they won't maximize wenn
I click on one of them. Selecting an App through "tab key" doesn't work either.
So I'm stuck.

[Bug 1891815] [NEW] Multi-seat stopped working in Ubuntu 20.04

2020-08-16 Thread Michel Le Bihan
Public bug reported:

Hello,

After upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, my multi-seat setup stopped
working. My issue is what's described in
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/-/issues/526, specifically:

> On seat0, as soon as I click on the GDM login screen, the entry form for the
> password completely vanishes and I am left with the standard gray background,
> with the only option to restart/stop the computer.
> On seat1, I can click and enter my password. However the desktop gets started
> on seat0 rather than on seat1.

> Using Wayland or X for GDM has no effect on the general behavior.

One user wrote that he has the same issue on Ubuntu 20.04
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/-/issues/526#note_831892). The issue
was fixed in one bugfix releases of GDM 3.36.x. It will probably need to
be backported to 3.34.x.

[Bug 1433774] Re: When double clicking an executable bash script in file manager, it opens in gedit rather than executing

2020-05-04 Thread Michel-Ekimia
IN our Setup script we do :

gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.preferences executable-text-activation ask
So the user can decide if he wants to execute it .

This should be the default behaviour.

if security risk is too high, then we should create a default "script
executor" that would warn the user harder like on Windows 10.

[Bug 1811668] Re: oem-config fails on Nvidia GPU machine on 18.04.1

2019-05-10 Thread Michel-Ekimia
Just a note :

- We add oem-priority because it affects our clients directly but we
don't have any contract with Canonical.

- Let us know what tag we could use when we want to raise a business
impacting problem

I was wondering if this could have something to do gnome-shell greeter

[Bug 415101] Re: Karmic: emacs22-gtk generated menus do not update (GTK only)

2018-12-12 Thread Michel Talon
This bug still affects Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with emacs-25 package, when running the
Unity
desktop. In particular editing lisp files and using slime is next to
impossible. I have found
a fix:

For emacs launched from a terminal window simply add
export UBUNTU_MENU_PROXY=emacs
to .bashrc

For emacs launched from clicking on icons, i have modified the exec line of
/usr/share/applications/emacs25.desktop to the following:

Exec=/usr/bin/emacs %F

instead of emacs25 because then the mechanism that puts the menu at the
top of the screen is inhibited. In both cases the menu bar is confined
to the emacs windows and then works OK.

[Bug 1373409] Re: can't change the printing font size and page borders width

2017-06-20 Thread Pitermann, Michel
Hello,

I have the same problem, I cannot change the font size when I print and
the font is way too big to do anything with the printed document. I am
surprised that a bug report was filled in 2005 on this topic, and 12
years later I cannot find a way to solve this. Am I missing the right
option or is it still impossible to print correctly an email with
evolution in 2017?

I thank you in advance for any hint.

Updating from 15.10 to 16.04 final and I've got the same error and a lot
of others (log file attached). But I think there is a link with the

At the final step (1 hour later), the updating process said that because
of errors, he will try to re-install the 15.10 ;-( But finally, this is
the 16.04 which is running ???

Re: [Bug 1311912] Re: PDF Rendering problem with evince

2014-12-27 Thread Michel Desmarais
Dear Christopher

The bug had to do with an installation issue with texlive. I first
tried an upgrade to see if it fixed the problem, and apt-get reported it
was not installed (I am not sure how it was installed previously, but
apparently I had an older version; but I did have the same problem on my
laptop and my workstation). So I just installed it through apt-get and
the rendering is ok now.

[Bug 882180] Re: Cannot set keyboard shortcut for Lock Screen

2012-05-22 Thread Michel Bouckaert
Additional information (confirming the symptoms reported by original
post):

If in steps (4) and (6) one enters the combination AltScrollLock (or
any of many such combinations), the effect is as expected, screen lock
is activated.

However, for several single-keys, including ScrollLock, the problem
exists as reported.

This is new to Oneiric. The problem did not exist in previous versions.

Regarding ubuntu tweak. Synaptic / Software Center do not mention
such a tool, and the Gnome-tweak-tool does not have any option like
Session Indicator... Could you help identifying the tool you hinted
at ?

[Bug 889301] [NEW] Empathy not registering providers set up using gnome-online-accounts

2011-11-11 Thread Michel Alexandre Salim
Public bug reported:

After setting up my Google account in System Settings - Online
Accounts, and checking that it's enabled for Chat, I started Empathy; on
Fedora 16 the Google Talk account is automatically set up but on Ubuntu
11.10 no account is set up by default.

The bizarre thing is, grabbing the matching source using 'apt-get source
empathy' and checking the debian/rules file shows that empathy is
compiled against libgoa-1.0-dev, but `apt-cache depends empathy | grep
goa` shows nothing.

Ubuntu release: 11.10

Package versions:
empathy 3.2.0.1-0ubuntu1.1
libgoa-1.0-0 3.2.1-0ubuntu1

Expected behavior:
Google Talk accounts set up in Online Accounts are automatically picked up by
Empathy

Actual behavior:
No such account set up. I verified that goa-daemon *is* running:

$ ps ux | grep goa | grep daemon
michel2173 0.0 0.6 324140 13748 ?Sl 20:50 0:00

[Bug 863834] Re: [regression] Suspend on lid close broken on Oneiric

2011-10-19 Thread Michel Filipe
Guys, I found the origin of problem. Gnome3 changed your politics
about power management and now, when an external monitor is connected,
gnome-settings-daemon doesn't suspend/hibernate the laptop. See it:
http://blogs.gnome.org/hughsie/2011/02/02/is-gnome-3-going-to-melt-your-
laptop/

So, either close the bug or convince the gnome devs change this
behavior.

[Bug 776342] Re: e-calendar-factory takes sometimes more than 1GB of RAM

2011-06-24 Thread Nicolas Michel
To P Cantwall : this is exactly what I did : as you see I also subscribe
to this bug because I had it on Ubuntu 11.04. Because of that and other
broken packages (and completly buggy Unity), I quit Ubuntu for
Archlinux. And I'm now very glad (of course, Archlinux need to be a
little configured and understood to make a good desktop environnement
but once it's done, this is really pure hapiness).

[Bug 776342] [NEW] e-calendar-factory takes sometimes more than 1GB of RAM

2011-05-03 Thread Nicolas Michel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-data-server

I can't reproduce the problem. Sometimes everything works, and then, for
an unknown reason, it begin to consumes a very lot of memory. Then the
OS needs to use the SWAP file and the computer became too slow to be
usable.

To fix it, I either need to kill e-calendar-factory but in that case,
I can't use Evolution anymore. Or I need to restart my computer.

[Bug 701816] [NEW] Need a VOIP group in the communication roaster of Ubuntu (letter icon)

2011-01-12 Thread Nicolas Michel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When wanted to make a SIP call phone with empathy, I actually need to
clic on the letter roaster in the gnome status-bar, choose chat which
opened empathy window. Then choose chat in the application menu and
then choose New call.

This is really not intuitive nor optimized (4 clics to make a phone call
- it should be 2 or 3) and chat on which I need to click is not really
the action I want to since I want to make a voice call.

So either the chat name of the category is not a wise choice, either
you need to add a new category named VOIP.

[Bug 667094] [NEW] Manual steps necessary to get calendar entry from browser

2010-10-26 Thread Michel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When a Web site communicates a calendar object (meeting, etc.) it offers to
download a .ics file.
Currently, the only way to insert that object into Evolution is to (1) Save the
.ics file to disk (2) In Evolution/Calendar, choose Import, select the
just-saved .ics file, import, select a calendar.

Most Browsers allow to associate a CLI line with a MIME type or file
extension. Currently, associating a .ics file to Evolution gives no
result (the file is downloaded, Evolution doesn't record anything.) To
reproduce, craft a local Web page offering to download an ICS file, and
try to import it into Evolution from the browser.

This is unnecessarily complex.

I would suggest additional parameters to the evolution command-line
syntax, e.g., evolution --cal-import $filename --into calendarname,
with it defaulting to local calendar if --into is niot specified.
This could be then encapsulated in a script to be used exactly as
desired.

This problem shows in Evolution 2.28.3 running on Ubuntu 10.04, and most
probably all previous releases. the same behavior and request have
already generated launchpad entries -- but apparently mistakenly
assigned to Firefox and closed since.

[Bug 666241] [NEW] Problem while moving screens in the monitor preferences

2010-10-25 Thread Nicolas Michel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I'm under Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop in 64 bits. I already had the same
problem on the 10.04.

To have the bug, you necessarily need at least two screens with different
resolutions.
I'll explain my case, with my laptop screen (resolution of 1280x800) and my TV
which have a HD resolution : 1920x1080.

Steps to reproduce the bug :
- connect the TV with VGA cable on my laptop
- launch monitor preferences application
- activate the TV
- switch from left to right (or inversed) the laptop screen and the TV screen
with drag and drop in the monitor preferences window. (for exemple : monitor
preferences put the TV on the left by default. But in the real world, my TV is
on the right of my laptop).
- then there is a hole in the workspace of the bigger screen (TV in my case)
and that hole seems to correspond to the bigger resolution minus the smaller
one. That hole is black (it hides the wallpaper) and can't be used as workspace
(this is not only a problem of hiding the wallpaper but really a piece of the
workspace which is missing).

To solve the problem, I then need to decrease the resolution of the TV
screen. And increase it again to its real resolution (1920x1080). At
that point, I have my TV screen well configured!! Pffiou...

[Bug 334082] Re: Most mp3 files listed with Unknown length

2010-06-20 Thread Nicolas Michel
Hi,

I had the same problem on Ubuntu 10.04 64 bits desktop edition.
Every audio files sits on a NTFS type of partition. Some files duration are
tagged unknown and others are the correct length shown.
I resolved the problem by deleting the media DB file :
~/.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml so the next time rhytmbox is started it
have to rebuild the DB. That new import is showing lenght correctly, for all
audio files without exception. So there was a problem during the initial and
first build of the DB (maybe at that time my environment missed a codec or
something needed by rhytmbox to do the job correctly??).

You'll see above some dpkg -l to see installed version of softwares.

[Bug 578285] Re: Since Lucid, notifications are not really clear

2010-05-11 Thread Nicolas Michel
Currently that communication icon is a letter. White when no
notifications. Green if we received a mail or an event in empathy or
both.

What it should do? Here is an idea.

There is some cases :
1) we received no mail and no new event in empathy :
the letter icon could be white as it is already implemented

2) we received some mails and no new event in empathy :
the letter icon could be green as it is already implemented

3) we received a new event in empathy but no new mail :
there is only a static green phylactery icon (we don't see the letter icon
anymore)

4) we received a new event in empathy and we also received some mails :
the letter icon is green. It switches slowly to a green phylactery icon. Then
fade again to a letter icon and so on (loop) until we have an other kind of
event (as describes above). The transitional effect between letter icon and
phylactery one could be a fade effect (the opacity of the letter icon decrease
while the opacity of the phylactery one increase).

I talked about blinking icons in previous post but I find it boring for
a daily use.

[Bug 401823] Re: Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

2010-05-10 Thread Michel Gutierrez
By the way, wmode='opaque' also works. The point is not to have
wmode='window' (which is the default).
From the information i gathered around, this wmode parameter has a big impact
on the way the flash is physically displayed in the window manager and
apparently affects this XID collision issue.

[Bug 578280] [NEW] automount of network shares

2010-05-10 Thread Nicolas Michel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hello,

It would be great if nautilus could automount network shares (nfs,
samba, ...) when available. For example, with d-bus message of network
manager, when we have an up action. Nautilus could ping all registered
shares and if available, mount-it with gvfs.

I know we can make something with a startup script, but this is not
really usefull when using a laptop on a very mobile way (connect from
network to network, sleep mode, etc).

But maybe you think this is not the job of Nautilus?? If not, this is
the job of which program?

[Bug 578285] [NEW] Since Lucid, notifications are not really clear

2010-05-10 Thread Nicolas Michel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Hello,

Since Lucid, empathy notifications were been merged with the e-mail ones. For a
daily use, this is not so effective : we don't see well notifications. So I
don't see as fast as I want when somebody talked to me.
I installed ppa of empathy, where I don't have the Ubuntu patch and have an
empathy icon.

I think this is a good idea to group notifications and decrease the
number of icons in the gnome status toolbar. But I think the way it is
implemented is not ergonomic.

[Bug 401823] Re: Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

2010-05-09 Thread Michel Gutierrez
For information, this Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead
message shows up repeatedly in my console when (and only when) i am
displaying a flash having parameter wmode='transparent'. Removing this
parameter also removes the trace. I tried adding/removing the parameter
a dozen times and the behavior is pretty consistent:

embed id=flash_object src=xxx.swf quality=high bgcolor=#869ca7
  width=100% height=100% name=XXX align=middle
  flashVars=
  play=true
  loop=false
  quality=high
  allowScriptAccess=always
  type=application/x-shockwave-flash
  wmode=transparent
  pluginspage=http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer;
/embed

shows (firefox-bin:10775): Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead
 traces in the console

embed id=flash_object src=xxx.swf quality=high bgcolor=#869ca7
  width=100% height=100% name=XXX align=middle
  flashVars=
  play=true
  loop=false
  quality=high
  allowScriptAccess=always
  type=application/x-shockwave-flash
  pluginspage=http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer;
/embed

does not.

In my case, i doesn't change much since i need to have this 'wmode'
value to 'transparent'.

since 8.04 without any problem, the gnome just stop to work. I need to
kill nautilus and gnome-panel process (in this order) and the panel is
rendered. But if I try to open nautilus by hand, the problem happens
again. Looks like when nautilus try to map all my partitions this just
hang all gnome-panel process. Any idea how to solve this or workaround?

I can confirm this bug on karmic 64.

[Bug 490424] [NEW] aucun son ne sort de mon portable HP pavilion dv6

2009-11-30 Thread michel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Ordinateur portable HP Pavilion dv6; model dv6-1123sf; S/N CNF 915053 T; P/N NL
948 EA#ABF
R700 Audio device; Radeon HD 4000 serie; digital stereo HDMI. Merci de votre
