[Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title

2010-09-18 Thread mike2357
Please remember, it's not just the About Ubuntu option in which
garbage characters appear. The cubes appear in many Gnome application
help screens. Examples: Nautilus, Gnucash, gCalctool, gedit, F-Spot,
Simple Scanner and probably lots more since so many applications use
yelp. Perfection can be carried too far, but I think we should do
what's best for users: fix this even if it means delaying the final
release.

2010-09-08 Thread mike2357
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

After upgrade to Ubuntu 10.10 beta, when I select Places - Network, I
consistently get the following error message:
Could not display network:///.
Error: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply:Did not
receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote
application did not send a reply, the message bus security
policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the
network connection was broken.
Please select another viewer and try again.

Same behavior when I select Places - Connect to Server, even if I
provide an IP address rather than a computer name.

[Bug 448710] [NEW] Rhythmbox can't be shut down via close box

2009-10-11 Thread mike2357
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When I close Rhythmbox 0.12.5 (Ubuntu 9.10 beta) via its menus (Music -
Quit), it closes and terminates. However, when I use the close box in
the Rhythmbox window, it simulates Music - Close, i.e. the process does
not terminate, and the notification icon stays active. In prior Ubuntu
versions, the close box resulted in a true quit. Most other
applications work the same way, i.e. selecting the close box terminates
the application.

[Bug 285937] [NEW] gconftool-2 in Intrepid not working from cron

2008-10-19 Thread mike2357
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gconf

In Hardy and prior versions, I used cron to call a script to change my
screen background. In Intrepid, these commands do not work from cron,
although they do work from the command line. For some reason,
gconftool-2 is not attaching to my session. The script is executing
fine and produces output, it's just that the gconftool-2 commands don't
have any effect.

Commands:
gconftool-2 -t str --set /desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename
$picture_name
gconftool-2 -t str --set /desktop/gnome/background/picture_options stretched

Clue:
When the script it run from cron, the following command gives an exit status of
2, which means gconfd is not running. When run from the command line, it gives
an exit status of 0, wihch means gconfd is running.
gconftool-2 --ping
