[Bug 526188] Re: desktop icons dissapear after press remove safely usb

2010-02-22 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in nautilus.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 525604] Re: file .rar cannot open?

2010-02-21 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

If you simply need to open a .rar file, install the unrar package from the
multiverse repository. If you have another other questions, please use
https://answers.launchpad.net/ or http://ubuntuforums.org/
Thanks in advance!

[Bug 525604] Re: file .rar cannot open?

2010-02-21 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

2010-02-13 Thread Mitch Towner
I have changed the package to nautilus as this is a nautilus issue - this does
not happen when using thunar.
This issue only occurs the first time Computer is selected from the Places

This issue also occurs the first time nautilus computer:/// is run from a
terminal window after login if the Extra Pane view is selected.
After the error message is displayed then dismissed, any further attempts to
select Computer from the Places menu or to run nautilus computer:/// from a
terminal window work as expected.

[Bug 519214] Re: linux-image-2.6.32-12-generic freeze

2010-02-09 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect -p linux 519214

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

I have set the package as ubuntu as this is not a yelp issue.

[Bug 519651] Re: The keys controling the volume, eco-mode ... freez ubuntu 9.10 64bit

2010-02-09 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug had the incorrect package associated with it,
which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have re-classified
this bug as a bug in gnome-settings-daemon.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 518671] Re: 5.1 surround sound control issue

2010-02-07 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information. Would you
please add the information requested from the Reporting Sound Bugs section of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems by running the command
apport-collect -p alsa-base 518671.
If you are running Karmic, please read through the following wiki page as it
resolves a lot of common audio problems.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems/KarmicCaveats

Can you please link to the XvidCap screencast you referred to as this
may be helpful.

Also this is not a yelp issue, so I have changed back to the default Ubuntu
package for now.
Thanks in advance.

[Bug 517925] Re: The help files won't print

2010-02-06 Thread Mitch Towner
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: yelp

- Pick pretty much any help page and try to print it. You'll get a page
- that has the heading and nothing else.
+ Printing almost any help page (using print this page) results in a page
that has the heading and nothing else.
+ Also note that selecting Print this Document results in a segfault error,
but that is a separate issue that is still present in Lucid.

- This is in Karmic.
+ [TEST CASE]
+ =
+ 1. Open Help by pressing F1 or System -- Help and Support
+ 2. Click on the first link under the Common Questions heading - Connecting
to the Internet
+ 3. Select Print This Page ... from the File menu
+ 4. Select Print (or Print Preview to avoid wasting paper whilst testing -
both options show this symptom)
+
+
+ [Current Result]
+ =
+ A page with only the heading (in this test case Connecting) the page
number (1 of 1) is printed.
+ See Screenshot from Karmic - http://imgbin.org/images/1241.png
+
+
+ [Expected Result]
+ =
+ The entire page including all help text should be printed.
+ See Screenshot from Lucid - http://imgbin.org/images/1240.png
+
+
+ [Work Around]
+ =
+ When printing a Help page, select a different printer (e.g. Print to File)
in the print dialogue screen then re-select your desired printer.

[Bug 517925] Re: The help files won't print

2010-02-06 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest
development version of Ubuntu - Lucid Lynx. It won't be fixed in previous
versions of Ubuntu because the package doesn't fit the requirements for
backporting. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports for more
information.
Also, there is an easy work-around for this problem (see the Work Around
section in the updated description)

[Bug 510608] Re: slow internet unable to send or download mail

2010-01-21 Thread Mitch Towner

[Bug 508124] Re: Weather applet - doesn't work w ith Holešov

2010-01-16 Thread Mitch Towner
I think this may be related to the brainstorm idea below:
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/17670/

I just changed my location in the weather applet to Holešov I can
confirm it says 23°C but the wind speed for me is North / 3.0 knots (5.6
km/h) whereas google is currently showing -3°C Wind: E at 10 km/h. I
believe that this is more than likely an issue with the weather source
data rather than the actual applet code.

Performed test case as follows:
1. Open gcalctool
2. Check show trailing zeroes menu option is only sensitive in scientific mode
3. Change to scientific mode and enable show trailing zeroes
4. Change to other mode and confirm trailing zeroes are not shown (repeat for

[Bug 242784] Re: rhythmbox crashes when adding music to iPod: segmentation fault

2008-06-27 Thread Mitch Mahan
I plugged in my Ipod this morning to get further debug info.

Everything works now though (I had transfered music to it using Winamp
at home).

Perhaps this bug is only a problem adding music to brand-new Ipod's?
It can't properly initialize a music folder or something similar perhaps?

At any rate, I cannot provide proper debug information as I can't get it to
crash again...
(I could try erasing everything is you would like).

[Bug 242784] Re: rhythmbox crashes when adding music to iPod: segmentation fault

2008-06-25 Thread Mitch Mahan
The program does not generate a crash report.

The error I have posted in this ticket seems to either give the program a valid
exit or not be a 'severe' enough instance to generate a crash / report.
(So maybe 'crash' was a bad word).

After the event of dropping a music item on my ipod (see ticket) rhythmbox
closes as if I had simply clicked the [x] at the top right of the window.
To generate the error I posted above I had to run rhythmbox from a terminal.

I further then ran rhythmbox from the terminal using the --debug option
to output the 0x80dc408 debug statements.

[Bug 93847] Re: Excessive CPU usage by Gnome System Monitor

2008-03-20 Thread Mitch Smith
By chance do you have an Nvidia graphics card. My test machine was
doing the same thing. gnome-system-monitor using high 90% switching to
resources tab would spike it to 100%. I did not have the nvidia drivers
enabled. Once I enabled them and rebooted my system has stabilized.
gnome-system-monitor currently running around 5-8%.

[Bug 128803] Re: [Gutsy] very slow gnome startup

2007-10-31 Thread Mitch Wiedemann
I was seeing very slow Gnome load times as well.

After reading a misconfigured loopback comment above, I checked my
network interface settings, and sure enough, I had configured a static
IP address for my ethernet interface and the slow startup would happen
only when I didn't have the ethernet cable plugged in.

I mostly use my wireless interface, so I set the ethernet interface back
to roaming and the problem was solved for me.

So, I suspect the long load times are due to a network-manager timeout
or something like that.

[Bug 67443] Progress bar is invisible

2007-04-19 Thread Mitch Golden
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

In the default Gnome theme that I get during an Ubuntu install, the progress
bar is not visible. It appears to be white on white.
You can see the number of percent and it is changing, but once you get above
50% it becomes very hard to read.

The progress bar has the same appearance after the install, and the
attached screenshot shows synaptic upgrading my system.

I have a Sony Vaoi PCG-XG19 laptop with a NeoMagic chipset.

2007-03-07 Thread Mitch
After removing all my themes from ~/.themes

I'm still having the problems, but logging in with the gnome failsafe

I changed my theme to the default Human.

My latest .xsession-errors is as follows:

/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/X11R6/bin/sessreg -a -w

SESSION_MANAGER=local/carnage:/tmp/.ICE-unix/5628

(update-notifier:5702): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:

I'm unsure how to start gnome-session with valgrind however... I will
look into that portion of it.

[Bug 68996] Re: xfs partition problem (Edgy 6.10)

2007-01-08 Thread Mitch Mahan
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gparted

When trying to install XFS from the 6.10 CD on a new system I selected
XFS as my / drive and another partition for swap space. Selected
  forward...

Since / is not allowed to be mounted on an XFS volume I then went back
into gparted (Backward) changed my XFS volume to the Standard ext3 and
tried to proceed with the install. Everything seemed to go alright.
gparted was partitioning my volume with ext3 but when loading the next
step it gave me the same error Cannot mount / on an XFS volume
Pressing backward I noticed that my just selected ext3 partition had
  magically changed back to XFS.

- So overall: When trying to change my XFS partition to a regular ext3 it
- refuses to after having prior selected an XFS file type.
+ So overall: When trying to install an XFS root partition and then going
+ back to install a regular ext3 it refuses to recognize the change back
+ to ext3 and constantly changes back to XFS and gives the error message
+ Cannot mount / on an XFS volume A reboot is needed to install a
+ normal Ext3 / partition.

[Bug 67443] Re: Progress bar is invisible

2006-10-23 Thread Mitch Golden
I should point out that this is the setup I have when I boot directly
from the Edgy RC CD, so it isn't possible that I changed anything.

When I run that command it replies with Human.

Should I see something in the .xsession-errors before I run an install?
The only suspicious thing I see before an install is

(gnome-panel: 6049) Gtk-WARNING **: gtk_widget_size_allocate(): attempt
to allocate widget with width -3 and height 24.

[Bug 67443] Progress bar is invisible

2006-10-21 Thread Mitch Golden
Public bug reported:

In the default Gnome theme that I get during an Ubuntu install, the progress
bar is not visible. It appears to be white on white.
You can see the number of percent and it is changing, but once you get above
50% it becomes very hard to read.

The progress bar has the same appearance after the install, and the
attached screenshot shows synaptic upgrading my system.

I have a Sony Vaoi PCG-XG19 laptop with a NeoMagic chipset.

[Bug 47320] Re: /etc/init.d/gdm stop falsely reports gdm stopped

2006-06-06 Thread Mitch Hollander
This is also the case when using sudo, i.e.,
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop. And by extension, affects restart as well.

The main problem is that it prevents the user from restarting gdm
without rebooting - necessary when trying to solve xorg problems on the
Live CD.

killall -HUP gdm can be used as a workaround.
