[Bug 255727] Re: Two panels appear on main desktop after reboot after detaching external monitor.

2010-12-09 Thread nZain
So, after searching from here to upstream, from the non-duplicate upstream bug
to forum posts, out-of-date PPAs I ask myself if this can be resolved somehow.
The upstream bug refers to problems where applications do not open on the
correct monitor. However, this is not the issue here: when monitor 2 is gone,
the gnome-panel resorts to the available monitor - which is of course useful in
many respects. Typically, you don't want your applications be left alone in the
void.

BUT when working in a dualscreen environment and from time to time only
on a single monitor, this is just so anyoing. This issue is open for a
long time.

So, I'm fine with the behavior as default: always revert back to an
available monitor, if the original target is lost somehow. However, for
the scenario depicted in this bug, it should be possible to lock a
particular panel to a particular monitor, even if it is not showing
then.

Basically, I suggest to add an option right-click on the panel preferences
to force a monitor, even if not present.
This raises the issue of lost panels, so eventually there should also be the
possibility to gather lost panels, e.g. by right-click on any panel find
lost panels from disconnected monitors. I could live without the second -
advanced - option, since I know where to look in the gconf.

If all this stuff confuses the majority of users that have only one
monitor or always work with two mons, I'm also fine with a gconf option
to deactivate this save switching off. My current workaround involves
removing the whole panel from the list of visible panels... and re-
inserting, if my second monitor becomes available. Mah.

So, what else do you need (marked as incomplete)? As this bug happens
infrequently and I'm unable to track it down, I can't give you more
details.

[Bug 599212] [NEW] evolution is (occasionally) stuck fetching emails

2010-06-27 Thread nZain
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

From time to time evolution gets stuck fetching my emails (see attached
screenshot). This morning I opened evolution and while fetching emails
from my gmail account worked fine, this time my university account
didn't finish. This is an SSL setup via imap.uni-wuerzburg.de:993, which
worked fine before (e.g. yesterday :).

While reporting this bug, the fetching finished (was cancled? didn't
press any button), but the updating folders process remains. A few
minitues later, it says saving inbox. It seems the connection is
insanely slow? However, thunderbird works fine. Now its fetching mails,
again (check-for-emails interval already over) - but also stil saving
the inbox. I didn't get my emails, though... (checked via the web
interface)

I've seen several such bugs in evolution (on my computers and also
launchpad). If you want me to aquire a backtrace, just delete this bug,
as I don't have the time for this. Good practice in such scenarios is a
timeout and informative error/debug messages to the user/log without
debug packages.

Bug still somewhat present in Lucid. Editing works fine for the bookmark
menu (top menubar), but not at all for the sidebar. The enter trick
after each change, described above, does not work here.

[Bug 581628] [NEW] Evolution infinitely filters (and fails to exit)

2010-05-17 Thread nZain
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Due to some filters, I've set up, evolution stops functioning:

1) At the bottom it shows two processes (filtering 0%, receiving) which
do neither succeed nor throw an error. I'm also unable to stop them by
using the little stop buttons. Just nothing happens, no errors on
console.

2) Probably a result from 1): In this condition, evolution is unable to
quit. Hitting the close button (or menuquit) results in all the GUI
beeing grayed out. However, evolution stays in this condition. This
seems to be caused by the first problem, as evolution always runs some
processes before actually closing, after these have finished. Usually
this is less than a second, but due to the infinite running processes
the job queue doen't clear and evolution waits?

Why are the filters the problem?

a) I deactivated several accounts (actually, I have 4 active accounts, 2 pop, 2
imap) round-robin (killall evolution, restarted), but the filtering process
remained at 0%, however the infinite receiving process is now gone.
b) I deactivated all filters - problem gone. Reactivated all my accounts, no
problem.

I'll now try to trace back, which filter is causing the problem and
report back here.

Patrick

[Bug 581628] Re: Evolution infinitely filters (and fails to exit)

2010-05-17 Thread nZain
Actually, I'm not so sure that it is a filtering problem, since I now
reproduced the inifinite receiving behavior without the filtering
process. I activated some filters, though. This only happens with one of
my pop accounts (can't see which one it is).

[Bug 462419] Re: evince apparmor profile prevents movies from opening

2010-03-09 Thread nZain
Although the previous tricks didn't resolve my problem, it is now - due
to several apparmor updates - fixed. However, running videos from evince
doesn't work with totem (it just opens totem exits before playing the
video). It does work with VLC - maybe this helps Alejandro Weinstein. So
I can finally confirm that this bug is fixed.

Unfortunately, I can't say. I tried it today because Jamie said, it was
fixed... (again). Today it worked the first time for me.

My system is up to date, and I still have the same problem.
