[Bug 1942432] Re: third-party applications freeze gnome-shell reproducibly
Thank you for the quick response. I'm sorry for the work I generated. After reporting the bug, I tried another display / window manager, respectively, and managed my system into a non-working GUI. I then did a backup and reinstalled Linux, now cinnamon is working well. [Bug 1942432] [NEW] third-party applications freeze gdm3 reproducibly
Public bug reported: On my Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS, I have reproducible freezes of gdm3 (3.36.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.4) caused by third-party applications. The only thing I found describing my problem was https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/39855 (passage *GUI Glitches Causing Unresponsive WM or X11/Wayland*). This is exactly my experience ("**an application stops responding and prevents you from entering input with the keyboard or mouse to other application windows**"). Specifically: - clicking on a hyperlink in (an open mail in) thunderbird freezes gdm3 at 90%. - opening files via nemo (file manager) freezes gdm3 sometimes, regardless which file type. - libreoffice freezes gdm3 a lot when switching windows via alt-tab, but not when I switch windows via super key. Whenever a freeze occurs, the clock in my taskbar stops, the mouse and keyboard still work, but no window responds. Switching to tty works. Killing the last used application (e.g. thunderbird, nemo, soffice.bin) via tty brings gdm3 to life again. The funny thing is that when e.g. I open a link via thunderbird and gdm3 freezes, then I kill thunderbird via tty and switch back to X, then thunderbird is gone but firefox has opened the link. I activated gdm3 debug output but could not find anything (I'm not an ubuntu/X/gdm expert). [Bug 1928458] [NEW] inconsistent and unneeded password prompts
Public bug reported: On several occasions I have experienced that gnome-keyring prompts to be unlocked when I believe it should not. * I have Spotify installed as a .deb. When starting Spotify, on some occasions gnome-keyring prompts to be unlocked, on others not. This behaviour has been observed both when gnome-keyring has been unlocked in advance as well as when not. I have not added my Spotify password to gnome-keyring. * same behaviour as described above when starting Lutris. Hello, I think I just got this bug. System: 18.04.5 LTS Header's version: linux-headers-5.4.0-54-generic I don't know what I did to reproduce it. The gnome notifications can't be closed, even by clicking on the X or do not disappear. Right before, I was doing a system update with new headers. Then I rebooted, and I got issues regarding pcieport for about 20 minutes. Rebooted multiple times, and then, it went back normal except the notifications... [Bug 1841646] Re: White text on white background for HTML e-mail
I'm not expecting this to be fixed in 18.04 as I imagine that this issue considered low importance since it can be worked around by changing theme. Add to that the fact that the devs and package maintainers probably are pretty busy after the 19.10 release and working towards 20.04. The be fair, this is not really a game breaking bug but more an inconvenience. @Christopher Howard (howardtopher): I'm sure you're welcome to contribute a bugfix. Sorry, I don't want to work without all of these extensions until the very same crash happens again. Some of them are essential to work flawlessly. Hi Daniel. I used the command `ubuntu-bug gnome-shell` to send this bug to launchpad. (In reply to comment #75) Nicolas, Where does the need to *have* a key for nbsp come from? Because unlike in English most French punctuation symbols require a space (sometimes a short space) before. And if it's not a non-breakable space apps will perform line breaks at the wrong position and you'll end up with orphan sumbols at line starts Online http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espace_ins%C3%A9cable Actual authoritative reverence (highly recommended if you want to work on any system with French inputs or outputs) http://www.amazon.fr/Lexique-r%C3%A8gles-typographiques-lImprimerie-Nationale/dp/2743304820 Lack of non breakspace on French layouts on some OSes is such a basic problem OpenOffice/LibreOffice had to hardcode a nbspc combo but that does not help when writing in you MUA, your browser, your IM client, etc Isn't a compose combo more appropriate and less error-prone? Compose is not appropriate for basic symbols you need to write pretty much any correct sentence in the target language. And adding a specific input method for one symbol just because some people can't live with the modifier ISO chose for level 5 is disproportionnate. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221112 Title: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libgnomekbd/+bug/221112/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

(In reply to comment #66) Regarding the voting, is there generic popular Linux-oriented site in France? Like slashdot.org or smth... There is a popular Linux-oriented site in France (linuxfr.org) and the final ajustments of this layout were done after discussion on this site. I realise there is a vocal minority that does not like some of those choices but 1. the other alternatives used in the ancestors of this layout generated a lot more hate mail 2. because I knew there was no choice everyone would like spacebar layout is modular (and I'm the person who modularized it as part of the creation of this layout). People can choose the previous behaviour if they want and a few other possibilities were added as part of the modularization 3. so far no one proposed any better option appart from removing symbols which are necessary to write proper French (arguably proper French is not the same as C code). [Bug 1221367] [NEW] scroll-method set to two-finger-scrolling by default, even if the hardware does not support it
Public bug reported: On an up-to-date Saucy, I'm no longer able to edge scroll. There is a Two fingers scroll box in the Mouse Touchpad panel. It is checked by default but it is also grayed out (since the hardware does not support multitouch), so I can't disable it. On Raring, the box is still grayed out but it is unchecked by default (edge scrolling was the default). My only solution on Saucy is to install dconf-editor and manually change the value of org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.touchpad.scroll-method. This is not user friendly. Two fingers scrolling is a sane default, but it should fallback to edge scrolling when the touchpad can't support it. [Bug 1093325] Re: Lowest brightness setting renders screen black
I can confirm this issue on my UX32VD running Ubuntu 13.04. However I don't know how this issue could be solved. The BIOS tells us the maximum brightness value accepted but the minimum accepted value is always 0. The actual behaviour of the different brightness values is decided by the hardware, that means we have no way of knowing whether 0 means backlight off or minimal backlight on a specific machine, unless by maintaining a list of hardware that turns backlight off when brightness is 0. ** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1093325 Title: Lowest brightness setting renders screen black To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1093325/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1175069] [NEW] Enable brightness scaling on different hardware models
Public bug reported: Using Ubuntu 13.04, gnome-settings-daemon 3.6.4-0ubuntu8. Different hardware have different brightness scales, for example : - ranges are different ('max_brightness' value) - some hardware turns backlight off when brightness is 0 - some hardware have a linear scale, some do not For example, on an EeePC 1215N, the brightness ranges from 0 to 8 and changes are nearly linear (the increase between 0 and 1 seems similar to the increase between 7 and 8). On a Zenbook UX32VD, the brightness ranges from 0 to 100, with 0 turning the backlight completely off, and changes are a lot less linear (the increase between 1 and 2 seems similar to the increase between 90 and 100). It would be nice to allow configuring a different scale on different hardware so that brightness changes seem more linear. ** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1175069 Title: Enable brightness scaling on different hardware models To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1175069/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME
As reported before, all the “.goutputstream-xx” files are temporary files that GLib uses in file write activities. However, these buffer files aren't deleted when an operation was cancelled. Currently, a fix was committed for this bug (see #104). Now, let's focus on the other part of the problem. On every session close, LightDM needs to clean ~/.Xauthority. According to #28, there can be lines in .Xauthority that shouldn't be erased, though the last line seems to stand for the current session and should be deleted when the session is closed. I don't know well how it works, but some process (most likely XAuth) is called to remove the last cookie of .Xauthority. It works fine when you only close your session, but when you shutdown from an open session, it looks like LightDM doesn't take time to close it properly before shutting the whole system down. o_O That results in a “.goutputstream-xx” containing all the ”permanent” cookies of .Xauthority. If you delete .Xauthority, these permanent cookies will disappear, so you will only get null-sized “.goutputstream-xx”... and a much lighter .Xauthority on next reboot. ;-) And it seems to cause no other problems, according to http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=11588001#p11588001 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/984785 Title: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/glib/+bug/984785/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
